Shelter / Penitent since Halloween patch
On Tuesday night, I got 3 yellows in just an hour of farming those events. That’s more than I normally get. I assumed it was just random luck. Especially since I had less MF on me than I normally would.
At least you get loot from those events. Even if I put traps down and use my other AoE as a ranger, I rarely get credit for kills, especially veterans that I had been attacking from full health to 0.
Yea now farming becomes really hard
I actually prefer it this way. Was so boring sitting there spamming AoE on the spot where the mobs become attackable.
I agree that its not the most entertaining event of the game, but for me it was the only viable farming place, now it is no more
Well other than the invulnerable mobs at penitent(the results of the invulnerability are even worse than before now) the current situation is better than before.
It’s a game. The monsters magically appear out of thin air and you expect to insta drop them because they are huddled and haven’t “seen” you yet? Where is the fun in that. You’re in Orr, fighting a swarm of the undead, which by definition should be unkillable. What do you expect?
GW2 is NOT a point and click game but one that favors motion and player reaction. Adapt my friend, adapt.

What if he doesn’t want to play a warrior?
Tonight farming Orr after the server reset for the new build, I got 9 yellows plus a ton of other loot.
As a ranger, I just use the axe #1 skill along with hawk/eagle pets. Don’t even bother targeting anything if you have the auto-target setting checkmarked in the game options. I use horn #5 and QZ for speed attack buffs whenever I can. I seem to get enough loot, especially in the DE at the south end of Penitent Path.
It’s harder to tag veterans in those DEs, so a good strategy could be to completely ignore them. That’s what I often do.
I don’t know what’s changed, but this week since the Halloween patch, it’s been even easier for me to tag mobs with my Ranger. They don’t instantly die at spawn like they used to. Also in the north Penitent Path DE, the mobs are no longer invulnerable all the way up to that single spot anymore. So you can actually run around and try to tag them a lot sooner, and not everyone can just sit and AOE spam one point anymore. So that makes it easier to try to tag for loot now too. I like it.
Try to do these events on another class and be ashamed for whining here!
The truth is elementalists are probably the best farming-class and received most of the loot at penitent before, leaving nothing for (most) other classes (2 – 3 rares at penitent camp – you have no idea what other classes received here, maybe a few skulls and white trash if not grouped)
You should be gratefull, that Anet didn´t change the whole tagging and loot system (which they won´t and probably even can´t), keeping your elementalist still overpowered compared to other classes when it comes to farming.
@ Hydeaut:
Have you ever tried farming on an elementalist? They may have the most visible abilities, but they just barely tag if you time your skills just right, and meteor storm is unreliable. You might not be able to see that axe 5 warrior standing in the ele spell effects though.

Me too. When a veteran is up it’s best just to autoattack so abilities you need you can tag trash with is off CD or have sufficient initiative. I usually manage inventory and salvage if I have to when vets are up. Sometimes I can switch to daggers and get at best a green from them and then switch back to shortbow.

With my elementalist, I used to enjoy farming Shelter / Penitent events… until the Halloween patch. I dropped 2-3 rare items per event most of the time.
Maybe you are doing something wrong?
I hope the drops were not nerfed, I agree with others that if I am to ever have a tiny chance to get an exotic precursor at the ridiculous prices, that place is my only hope.
I am really glad that they fixed the mobs though, before the warriors and elementalists spammed the spawn point and made it impossible for most other people to get any drops. It is better now, but still could use a few tweeks.
Shouldn’t complain about getting rares, honestly. You where unlucky, I’ve been unlucky with clovers, so? It’s the exact same before the Halloween patch, I’ve even gotten more then I’d ever usually get.

Just checked, it has some under level 80 blues lol! Could easily replace them with exotics now if I want since I’ve been breadwinning on my full exotic thief lately.

I’d say that’s half of your problem there… I’m constantly yelling at party members to stop screwing around with the solitary veteran for three minutes while ignoring 20+ mobs that actually drop loot…
I personally like the new DE setup’s as the mobs actually spawn with more health and are a bit tougher EVERYONE actually gets a good chance to tag the mobs now. Still have kitten splitting up spawn locations though because they haven’t figured out
1 – its unecessary
2 – basic math states killing more mobs = more loot so stop hoarding half of them for yourselves like morons.
