The window for Tequatl used to be 30 minutes. Now it is up at 65 minutes? Tequatl is a much different type of event then Jormag, one that needs coordination. People cannot watch the event timers and pop in when they see the pre-event has started. They have to be there to organize before hand. Those that do will now potentially waste over an hour of their play time waiting for Tequatl to arrive, time that could be better spent elsewhere.

It seems like the rewards were increased to try to entice more people to come out and kill Tequatl, and to better reward them for doing so. The new spawn window is doing the opposite and pushing people away. My server used to kill Tequatl every night. Now you have to join TTS if you still want to kill Tequatl. The increased rewards did not change it. The increased spawn window certainly won’t either.

I have to agree here. I don’t mind if the interval is long, but reducing the spawn window to less than 15 minutes would make the event timing more predictable. This would also make the other issues somewhat bearable (though not fix them).

I agree that the spawn window is too long compared to what it used to be. I know many people who have given up on tequatl all because of this silly 1 hour spawning window. The spawn window should be NO more than 30 minutes, so that means the next event since last tequatl event finished being between 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. This is a world event that, unlike most others such as Claw of Jormag or Shatterer, does not have any pre-events. The main event is up right away.

Because there is no pre-events for tequatl the sunless, his event restart timer window should reflect this by having a reasonably short spawning window. It is frustrating right now and when the current spawn window of tequatl starts, and he doesn’t start right then, that you basically have to sit and wait there for the next hour (because if you leave the map, you are probably not going to be getting back into that same map with your friends and server).
Make the tequatl spawn window timer shorter again and I PROMISS that people will be coming back to do this awesome meta event a lot more often. As of right now having to sit and wait for first the 30 or so minutes and then the 1 hour possible spawn window, many players are saying its not worth it. Case in point, the past 2 or 3 days for SBI, we have only gotten 1 tequatl kill, just after dailies reset. After that there was perhaps maybe 25 people total there for the next kill. (and normally we have averaged to get 2, or if lucky 3 tequatl kills per day)
The amount of coordination this event requires does not give most of the people waiting on the map the opportunity to do other events on the Sparkfly Fen map or kill champs to pass the time. When tequatl comes, 90% of the map population has to already be in position and ready to fight.

Random timers make sense if you want people to start to show up after the event starts or just want to pull from people already on the map for other reasons. However, with Tequatl, you have to be already in place and organized when it starts, and this means everyone has to wait.

I would much prefer a longer time between windows and a shorter window. Why would it matter if the timing is predictable?

The world wouldn’t feel “alive”, without the randomness on the timer.

Sounds like a good response to me.

You have to balance feeling “alive” with tedium though.

Agree 100% I can understand timesinks like a lengthy respawn if this was a sub-based MMO but it makes little sense for a B2P game like GW2.

There should only be a spawn window if people succeed the event. If people fail then Teq should kill everyone but stay around the beach for people to reorganize and try again. The beach has been made useless anyway by all the pointless insta-kill fish anyway.

ArenaNet seems to understand this is how a good game should be designed, you see it in the dungeons where they don’t reset the dungeons if players fail the final boss fight and force them to fight through all the trash mobs again. Yet they forget this and make events with pointlessly tedious timesinks on failing when it comes to Teq or the Temple of Balth.

If Teq was hanging around all the time then if a server wants to try to gather up people for a try, they’ll be ready to go. With the spawn window even if a server overcomes the intertia to gather people they still have to wait around doing nothing which destroys any of that momentum.

Tequatl (like many world-boss events) would benefit from a trigger like we see for the siegemasters in WvW – event is up near constantly, but takes 10 people standing around the NPC to launch it.
