Tequatl- good for a WoW 40man raid not GW2
(at least) 1 server could do it. All servers can do it.
All you need is 6 brains on the turrets.
Give the people time to learn.
(Though I confess i’d love to see something like this as a new level in guild missions).
It’s not the fight design (well asided from putting victory or failure in the hands of 6 turrets players) of Teq that is the issue, at least for me; it’s the time limit. It’s like Teq made an agreement with players that if they can get him below 75% within 15 minutes, he’ll keep fighting them, otherwise they automatically lose and he’s outta there, even if the laser and batteries are still up. That’s not how battles should be decided. Battles should be determined by successfully (or unsuccessfully) defeating the enemy. In the Teq battle, players’ goals should be to kill Teq and defend the batteries and mega laser from being destroyed as these are critical to killing him. Teq’s goal of course is to kill players and destroy the batteries/laser. How fast either side achieves their goals should be inconsequential to determining victory or failure. Removing the time gate solves all the complaints, at least how I see it. Oh, and since I haven’t been in a battle where there is just a few players on the map, if the battle doesn’t scale up or down to meet the player numbers on the map…it needs to. This still requires a level of cooperation between players to keep the batteries and laser from being destroyed, so the difficulty will still be there…but it will be there for ALL to enjoy. I’d rather fail the objective in an epic 2 hour battle, than fail at 15 minutes when he’s at 75.1% health, simply because we didn’t have fast enough DPS to get him that last .1% to start stage 2. The timegates primarily cater to the extreme players that like speed clearing dungeons rather than taking their time to explore and fight and truly enjoy the content. That’s fine if that’s what those players want to do in an instance, since it has no effect on anyone outside the instance. In the open world, however, you can’t easily choose which players will be there fighting by your side, and you can’t vote to kick out the non-performers, griefers and afkers so that you can invite those that will help. I’m not saying Teq needs to be an instance, just that timegating events should be reserved for instances only where timegating makes more sense.

yes, make this new idea of harder bosses for guilds, not for the masses, that just has failure written all over it.
only ready the title…. but THIS. This game does not support any type of a raid environment, so don’t make bosses that require raid level tactics.
My two cents, I’m fine with everything about Teq except for the timer. Maybe have it so there is a 10min timer to get the laser shot off, then reset the 10min timer. Then if the people on the turrets aren’t as amazing as they need to be, a coordinated group can still complete it and it doesn’t really change the difficulty of the fight itself.
This louder call for raids has come in with the new influx of WoW players. I don’t want to play WoW that’s what I play GW2. GW2 made content that made everyone play together, work together, and never feel like a loser because they aren’t good enough to be in a raid team. That’s what I loved about this game. Now I know how we are doing at Tequatl by the pace of people blaming each other and arguing. I feel this is really moving away from what this game was about.
I almost never put my two cents in but.. I actually feel like this is something worth saying.
I don’t mind the level of cooperation required to even fight Tequatl without dying every 5 seconds.
I DO mind the tiny time window.. Every kill is TOO close. and so many fights are SO close but just slightly off. What are the less populated servers suppose to do? They flood to other servers and ruin it for that servers home players. Twice my server has beaten Teq while I was trying to get through overflow for hours, loads of players talking about how they’re guesting here and that their server is a ghost town.
While I’ve seen a ton of players before this update saying that they think the world bosses are too easy and they need to be harder. I feel this is a little over the top.
15 minutes greatly hinged on whether or not the turret people are paying attention/ afkers?
I also don’t think the time limit should be removed. Maybe.. Everytime you successfully fire the megalaser it adds 2-3 minutes to your time limit?
This isn’t a raid.. it’s a world boss where you rely on both good and bad players. You shouldn’t have to get hundred+ players on a teamspeak and just BARELY beat a boss just to have a CHANCE at something good.
Newquatl would make a decent Guild Challenge, but it’s awful as open world content.
First: I like the new Tequatl, because before GW2 got my attention, I played another MMO with focus on (hardcore) raids. And yeah, maybe it’s a nice, unusual form of challenge, that not only the boss is challenging, but also your mates.
Who doesn’t want that, simply stays away. The only difference to the old Tequatl: you miss one boss/day in the world boss zerg.
What really sucks is the whole layer design. Today I experienced the second time (!), that the client crashed the last 5 minutes. And yeah, of course you have no chance to get back on your original layer, where the boss is almost done and you are stuck in another layer, where it isn’t even scratched.
1 hour preparation (what I don’t mind) and then this s**t – and of course no reward. Wouldn’t be a problem, if it’s an instance/dungeon (where you have a chance to rejoin your team) – this way, I’m pretty p****d, that someone else (that took over my place) got the reward I worked for.
I love how all this complainer threads start with: “I wanted to spend some money on gems, but now i wont since im not happy”.
If that is not officials attention grabing attempts i don’t know what is.
I love the mechanics to the fight and the challenge. I however really dislike the wait time for spawn and the open world aspect that leaves too much to chance without a piling 90 of your closest friends into the same overflow in order to get a killing attempt.
I really enjoy hard and challenging things that require a lot of skilled people to overcome but I am a old WoW player and liked the aspect of raids where you could bring 20 of your closest friends and try attempt after attempt in order to vanquish the turrible beasties.
It would be cool to see incensed bosses that you could attempt with your guild to try and best.
The failure or not should be in the hands of the players, not an arbitrary stopwatch.
The event has all of the bad parts of open world raids in older games, plus extra, and only some of the good parts.
