The Risen Priest of Melandru is OP
Watch for him to lift his hammer up to his side. That is the wind up for either the whirling attack or his teleport. Either way, dodge backward as soon as you see it. You’ll be fine. If you can’t dodge, you should still have time to turn slightly and strafe away. As a last resort, you can pop a block or invulnerability to avoid the brunt of the damage.
Worst case scenario, just use ranged for the fight. Melee takes more practice and… well, skill to accomplish in some fights without dying.
I don’t have anything to say about Vahid because I’ve never bothered with P4.
Umm… heh….
Melandru is the EASIEST priest. Our server always beat both stages of Mel even when we didn’t have the numbers to beat anything else. The only real problem with Mel is that first Gator-Polymorph it does …. it’s really bugged and starts the instant it hits 75% health leaving you no time at all to even mash a button for an interrupt in time. You basically have to guess when the exact next Tick of damage will happen brings it’s HP bar to exactly 75%. …because if you hear ‘em get even 1 word out, *it’s already too late*.
The priest in the Melandru temple has probably the most obvious choreograph ever to his whirlwind. If you die to it, it’s literally because you weren’t paying attention, you can even see it if he has effects spammed on him.

It’s very hard to see Melandru priest’s movement when everyone is spamming white flare attacks on him, because the red outline from post-processing effects are broken since the Aetherblades update. Moving the camera view with your mouse disables all outlines of NPCs.
Moving the camera view with your keyboard remains unaffected, but that limits my movement altogether.
The priest of Melandru is only alright. It isn’t nearly as easy as the statue of dwayna, but it isn’t nearly as all as the Risen High Wizard in small groups. I’ve never managed to solo the entire priest in one go, though.
Some tips on his attacks:
He’ll throw seeds that turn into vines that immobilize and cause bleeding. This is fairly easy to avoid: just run to different area. They take awhile to take effect, so as long as you are aware of your surroundings, this is no problem.
His primary attack involves him slamming his hammer down, causing spikes to erupt from around a single targeted individual. I have found no adequate way to dodge this move, since mere strafing doesn’t seem to avoid them, so to avoid these you’ll have to dodge whenever he slams his hammer down.
His second primary attack involves creating a churning earth like attack underneath your feet. Much like the seeds, this attack is easily avoided by simply walking out of the red ring.
His most dangerous attack is a teleport attack. He’ll rather quickly bring his hammer back then immediately teleport to you and knock you back about a thousand miles. If you see him pull his hammer back into a golfing position, he’s going to teleport and bash your head in. Dodge just a quarter second after he goes into the golf swing, otherwise he’ll just bash you after you dodge.
His spinning attack is high damaging, but easy to spot. He’ll quite slowly go into a golf swing position, charge up for a moment, then spin in the direction of a target character. Dodging this attack is rather easy: if you have room to your sides and have maintained distance, you can just walk out of the way. If you have just distance, you can chill or immobilize him and he won’t reach you. If you don’t have distance, you can dodge through him and he’ll charge right past you. The hardest part of this attack is when it is comboed with Banish or the Grasping Vines, which can lock you down or put you into a corner where you can’t avoid him.
Though I have not been able to solo him, in theory I could do it. I just have to wait for that stupid metamorphosis attack to bug out so I can fight him uninterrupted.
I find it’s best to fight him at range. Watch for red circles (they’ll usually have a common area where they’re seen) for earth spikes and try to do as much damage as possible at maximum range. When he spins towards you, dodge out of the way and get back to a safe range and repeat.
This is how I’ve been doing Melandru temple for a while now and I’m not as susceptible to being downed as most people trying to open the temple up. He can be very quick and there’s not a lot of time delay between when you see a red circle and when you get spiked/knocked over.

Not luck and credit cards.”
I think he has smacked me for more than pretty much any enemy, except the champion boar in Queensdale, the boar was glitched and repeatedly spammed his goring move like 5 times in a row without the knockback. This guy hit me for 29k on my full sentinel warrior tank (35k hp w/o buffs and wvw bonus), not sure if it is a % based attack or what, but the zerg lag tends to make it hard to see/dodge as my fps hits about 10 (I know, need a new video card =p). Haven’t died to the guy, but he can hit unusually hard at times.
ahmmm I did it 2 man in the past… is it different now? or is people forgetting how to play this game due to excessive farming?
I doubt that it is a lack of skill, so much as problems with zergs and scaling. I can solo facetank a good number of champions, and dodge around to solo quite a few more. Other players and glitchy stat scaling/terrain sometimes come into play though (the boar glitch was more than likely terrain based due to not receiving the knockback, it took me down to 25% instantly after that flurry). Priestess of Lyssa can take a very long time to finish as is, but especially so if people ignore the risen farmers and their hordes of explosive undead chickens, and the champ gorilla illusions. Dwayna’s temple is a cakewalk, even with a zerg. Balthazar seems to drive people mad with all the enemy AoE going on and lack of friendly NPC AI.
I’ve 2 manned him before with my warrior rifle… I soloed half of it before someone came over and helped.

Yes.
I tried him yesterday and I didn’t notice anything different other than a lot of players who stand still and auto-attack dying in painfully obvious AoE circles.
Didn’t get hit once myself by simple movement.
This smells like troll…
Also, one quick tip for the lizard transform, when you go to the priests healing him, spam the interrupt to stop the healing. This keeps the fight from going on even longer.
