Imagine this:

Players all around the map doing their stuff. Dungeons, fractals, farming, been in high level areas, low level areas etc.
A message appears and it says something like that:" The scouts reports the risen are grouping their forces and heading towards Lion’s Arch" and a timer starts 5 minutes countdown.
Everybody will come to defend LA I suppose.

The attack:
The 5 mins are over and risens are poping up all over the place trying to capture it. As players fights them and it seems they can’t stop the enemies, 3 dragons shows up and make the situation even harder. Everybody is trying to save the city…all of a sudden, when everybody thinks the things can’t get worse, a big shadow appears above the Arch – It is Zaithan!!! The battle continues and of course there’s a win or a lose.
If the players win this 30-40min or even an hour long event, cause players will have to fights hordes of risens and 4 dragons. After that the reward is good so players want it do this event again and there can be an item that can be obtain only from this event on golden reward(not for everybody).

The second scenario(when the players lose):
All defenders are pushed away, outside of LA an they must fight together to take it back.

Well, the event must be rewarding enough to make people want to play it. In other case they will not see Fractals or Mystic Forge…
There must be a real chance of winning the event, so there can be some big cannons that support the players.
For example, the only way to push back the dragons to be only with these cannons which the players must use(not auto-attacking cannons), but not just sit there waiting the skill to recharge, but the players must supply the cannons with ammo. And the ammo is at some place that you must run trough and go back, while other players fights around them.
The risens won’t stop poping up till the dragons are gone,so the groups must be spread on the cannons, the others are fighting.

Now that’s what I call an epic event, but this is just an idea and you must make it even more epic, like putting more than just a few cannons.

The reason the idea came up is because after you complete the personal story it looks like the risen treat is gone forever and if you want to see them yo must go to Orr. Why they stop attacking outside of Orr?

I think you’ve already found what I have wanted to say and the question is:

Is there a life for such an event?

Sounds very cool as a scenario to me. But I’m affraid no server will be able to handle this traffic with mass amounts of players and NPC’s. Take as example what happens in Jormag nowadays, players are moved in overflow because server cannot support that much players.

Seems a bit like Lost Shores to me…

But something more frequent then one time event after 20th time would be annoying.

Maybe if ANet likes the idea they can figure how they can manage the traffic.

Yes, Lost Shores are really lost right now, but I didn’t mention something in the first post.
The event must be random. For example: Starts today, then on Sunday, then after 10 and more if it must. If we have to be more realistic this risen attack just can’t be everyday. They need time for regrouping or whatever.

The whole point of this will be that different groups of players will do different things to complete the event. One group must hold the line while the second gathers ammo for cannons and shooting with them etc. They can make every dragon to be killed in different way, not just the cannons.

About the equal experience that players must obtain for playing different roles in the event, maybe the exp from killing foes must equal to zero. The reason for this is that players who fights will get more exp compared to the players at the cannons. The only exp the player must get is after the event is complete.

The conclusion:
The players will try to win the event together, not just killing the foes to get the exp and drops while the others gets nothing.

I rememebr DDO did this back a few years ago.. Shavarath devils and demons appearing randomly to attack Stormreach…. giggles and tears all mixed into one as low level toons are getting kittened all over the place whilst max levels just stand across the way emoting chuckles to them before slicing the legs from under the mobs after they had chewed the ears off the little ones… then the big tent explosion was the finale.. fun times

Love this idea. ANet however gotta balance the scaling or make it so that low level players do not need to pay repair costs too much or they’ll lose interest in GW2. I agree, we need a town/city event to show new players that GW2 is a living breathing world which requires everyone to work together to secure a safe haven.
