After the Braham scene. She had clarification text I was about to read, and she walks out….

Same thing happened here. I was like, “Wait, come back! We’re not done talking yet! Don’t leave me with the disappointment of a son! Eir! EIIIIIIIIIR!”

I didn’t even get to start talking to her. Talked to Knut first then got done talking to him and was like “Huh? Where did Eir go?”

I assumed she didn’t have anything to say, but if she does have special text then she definately needs to stick around. Seriously, why would you write up special text then have her leave before anyone can see it?

I actually ran that cutscene multiple times in order to screencap her responses so I could read them later at my leisure. The fact that I had to do it at least three times is ridiculous though, girl needs to slow down.

Thanks, SilveryBeing5082, for that. I looked for her to talk with, and she had disappeared. This must be a bug, because there’s nothing revealing in her conservation that would be considered a spoiler. At least we have closure with your post.

Thanks for the caps.

I’ve got to say, Eir’s dialogue seems off. What self-respecting norn tries to talk their grown child out of a chance to earn glory?

Any mother trying to protect their children from death might…

She also probably can’t handle another close personal death, since we all saw how she handled Snaff’s.

It’s not so much a chance to earn glory. In relation to what’s been happening up north and the reports returned – which Eir talks about – it’s very likely it’s seen as a suicide mission.

Echoing what others said, it probably has to do more with his safety than anything else.

Put yourself in her position: You’ve got refugees pouring into your lands, your people are hunters and not professional armies, and for a hunter/gatherer culture like the Norn a city is quite an accomplishment. Hoelbrak needs to find a spot for these refugees.

Now aside from that you’ve got some alliance between two vastly different forces working as one. No one knows much about them yet, it would be foolish to rush in and take them on right now.

We need to learn about them first then smash their faces in, but this kid (who is a kid and hers as well) wants to take the fight to them now.

In her mind, to also prevent another loss like Snaff, the kid needs to stay put right now. Eventually glory and battle will be won, but not today.

Actually, there is a Norn member of the Durmand Priory in Dredgehaunt Cliff who has a conversation with a colleague about how her son is out chasing glory and how she doesn’t want a dead legend for a son. Probably why its Eir encouraging your Norn to go make your legend and not your parents. I.e. even Norn parents would happily lock away their kids in the basement until this whole dragon mess blows over.

My brain is shagging under the weight of changes… having six characters was not a good idea!

I understand the “protect my flesh and blood” sentiment many of you have expressed. But remember, Eir is norn. And I remember a time when other races sent armies to save the world from the destroyers while the norn sent only a handful, fully believing a few norn to be the match of any army. Those norn wouldn’t have asked someone else to babysit their grown son.

They aren’t going against an ‘army’ though…not in the traditional sense. The flame/dredge are popping in and out half unnoticed and at the spur of the moment. How exactly does a Norn fight against that which strikes and flees like that?

But I’d be more concerned with what wrought the Flame Legion and Dredge forces into an alliance, not so much the soldier attacks themselves. They seem to be pressing residence out of the mountains for something, right?

The Norn still don’t believe in sending unprepared youngsters to deal with situations beyond their ability. If that were the case, they’d be happily booting their children into the forest to hunt for themselves as soon as they were weaned. I concur with what the others have said; Eir believes that it would be too risky to try and defend Rudgar’s Steading and that it would be wiser for the survivors to flee to Hoelbrak where they can protect them. In the meantime, they can learn more about their enemy and then mount a retaliatory strike once they have identified their strengths and weaknesses.

From what I remember of the book “Edge of Destiny” Eir especially doesn’t believe in unprepared people going on suicide missions. She was sick of carving statues for the young, drunken idiots so eager to take on (and die to) Jormag’s champion.

Running headlong into battle against a largely unknown, organised and powerful force is stupid. Eir ain’t stupid.

Haha, I had to do the same, it was really annoying, got around to finish screening it properly by getting to her somehow before the cutscene even started.
