How to deal with molten protectors?
Ive only run it once but as far as I could tell they were vulnerable once taken outside of the ring, all we did if he dropped the fiery ring was back off until the whole party was a good distance away and continue the fight there. Seemed to work.
Generally once we got used to the mechanics we found you could focus them down before they got the ring up if you target them first. Made the fights faster.
I swear Null Field was effective… but I need to run through again and pay better attention to that to make sure it wasn’t a coincidental effect.
-smack them out of it (it’s bigger than it looks, but it does end)
-interrupt them a lot to stall casting it
-lure other stuff out and kill it first
-lure them out and kill them (can be tricky as some like to just sit in there)
Stack bleeds and poison on it or interupt before it puts shield on.
If you have a thief in your party, he can actually Scorpion Wire the protector out of the flame circle.
You can also do this on protectors in the weapon testing fight BEFORE they buff the core and make it invulnerable.
You can use pulls to physically pull him out of the circle, or you can just back up and he will chase you out of the circle. The trouble is that the actual circle is bigger then the animation, he needs to be a couple body lengths past the animation before his shield will drop off.
I think that’s the issue I’ve been having recently: the shield’s effect radius is larger than the animation. I tried using the air staff 3 skill on my ele and while it did knock a protector just outside of his circle, he was still invulnerable. I think one of two things can be done:
1. Make the animation radius larger
or
2. Make the area of effect smaller
After playing GW1 for years and GW2 since the first public betas, I’m pretty sure Anet would opt for #1.
