I must admit that I had dropped GW2 for other games around the time that this whole Flame and Frost event started. I watched some Youtube video guides for the event just today and couldn’t help but notice….. ANet finally changed the way they do cut-scenes! Right?

The ones I saw were great! No jarring disconnection from the world around you. I hope ANet keeps this format. It’s much better than before when it was only two characters on screen at a time with a painted moving background.

It has a mix of both really, they like to switch it up every now and then.

I like going back to a more dynamic cutscene style that stays within the world, but to be honest I still felt disconnected from the Living Story ones for a different reason: that my character was completely excluded from interaction. You don’t do anything in them but stand back and watch, and maybe it’s just me but it always breaks my connection to what’s going on because then I don’t feel like my character even actually exists in the world. I’m just a tack-on, and I know the lore won’t ever remember me but I’d like to at least be a part of the present. The previous cutscene style did tend to break the mood, and really slowed things down, but at least my character was actually a part of it, being addressed and talking and observing. I didn’t feel so distant from what was happening.

Hmmm very good point. I guess that we have a voice on our personal stories because that was recorded and coded from launch. I think that no matter your appearance, there was a generic male and female voice for everyone. They must’ve not had much time or resources to do voice-acting for this particular event or those same voice actors weren’t available… not sure. Hopefully in future content they give us our voice back lol.

I guess I’m just excited because ANet has shown how malleable the game is. GW2’s structure and mechanics are pretty kitten flexible and have shown that off with the halloween tower jumping puzzle and the Super Adventure Box to name a few. Can’t wait to see the game grow even more.

I like a combination of both of them, I really liked the way in CoF SM where the bridge collapses, or the intro to ascalon catacombs. Some people says it pulls you out of the immersion I say the complete opposite. Its a great story telling tool and hope to see more in the future.

The combination of cinematic scenes and NPC dialogue as your party runs through the dungeon is vastly superior to the two-person-max nonsense cutscenes that we were faced with throughout the personal story. I don’t know why that was ever adopted as a good idea. GW1 and the Molten Facility (and tons of non-Guild Wars games) show how effective a combination of proper cutscenes and NPC actions are.

you know im ok with the old way out in the world ((so it looks like im the only one talking to said NPC)) or something. but when im in a dungeon or an instance doing it that way just pulls you out of the moment to much

I like it much better this way

Yeah, I prefer the old GW1-style cutscenes much better than the two person, artwork background cutscenes. That said, I don’t mind the dialogue cutscenes for places where it’s appropriate, like during Personal Story conversations in towns.
