After reading all the complaints about the Karka event last November, it made me think… am I the only one who thoroughly enjoyed that whole 2-hour chaos? I thought Anet did an excellent job making the whole thing feel epic. I’m just hoping that the Living Story finale will also be on the same scale

The F&F finale was stated to be mostly conversations and cutscenes, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up. I did enjoy the epic battle against the Ancient Karka, but the horrendous lag and culling meant that I could barely see what was going on, let alone participate. I also won’t miss the “one-time, one-day only” nature of the finale. It’s much too rough on people who don’t happen to be in the favoured timezone.

The idea was great, but only one day for each event was a failure, due to masive assistance.
I support 100% the way the F&F has been delivered: each week, each month, and you have time to experience it all and experience it with quality.
Karka’s was a complete chaos, a lot of lag and a lot of people could not enjoy.
I don´t care if the idea is great (which it was) if I can´t play it due to technical issues or time issues.

There was nothing enjoyable about the Karka event.

I was one of the few who actually got to “participate” and loot the chest at the end and if I never have to do anything like that ever again it will be too soon.

Having everyone in the game in the same place at the same time was a terrible idea. “Fighting” the giant karka basically consisted of doing other things at the computer while waiting for the huge periods of lag to either end so you could get a couple of hits in, resurrect at a waypoint because you’d been killed while frozen or run to where the event was now or (more likely) restart because the game crashed and hope whatever overflow you got into this time was nearer the end.

It wasn’t fun and it certainly wasn’t epic. And that’s for people who were able to dance to Anet’s tune and play when we were told to play. Most people had to miss some or all of the content.

Flame and Frost has mostly been a vast improvement. I’m annoyed to find out there’s an RNG account-bound mini in the dungeon chest which means instead of thinking I’ve done it when it was convenient and now I’m done with it I’m going to have to fit additional runs in whenever I can for a small chance at completing my mini collection. But they seem dead-set on repeating past mistakes when it comes to minis and weapon skins so I shouldn’t be surprised that hasn’t changed.

I’m also going to miss the finale because I have to be away that weekend and won’t be able to get in game. They did a great job right up until the end, then for no apparent reason fell right back into making the same mistakes all over again.

I was as well. It wasn’t that fun for me either, at least most of the battle anyways. It was just too drawn out. If the little battles with the spawned karkas was shorter, it would have been fun. How we damaged the ancient karka was different, but kinda fun.

Yeah, it is an improvement (for the most part, just a bit drawn out in the beginning), but its gone back to the same mistakes. I was gonna just do the dungeon once a day or so, till I heard about the drop rates the first day. After that, it became a task/job (just like SAB became) to run the dungeon as much as possible, just to try to get at least one of the jetpack and mini (both of which I still don’t have). I really hope they learn from all the negative comments here on the forum. Don’t put exclusive one time only items into a kitten RNG chest in temporary content, or at least give us at least a month, preferably longer, with that content. Have some kind of alternate way of getting the items (like SAB rewards, both those tradable from the chest and account bound by doing the content X amount of times). This would have been a lot better having the first two/three months content in January, then the Rox/Braham instances in Feb/March, then this dungeon content till now (current ending time, May 12th), then whatever comes next.

I agree that having the event span over a course of a few weeks was better than having it all happen in one day; however, by the “epic feel” to the Karka event, I guess I was referring to how the content was actually challenging in the sense that it took some coordination to kill each karka.

Looking at the F&F event, the MF dungeon just feels like a farming job to get substantial rewards (I was only able to run it twice cause I couldn’t imagine doing it 10 more times) while the Karka event was lengthy, yes, but with significant rewards (I’m not talking about precursors— but just the chance of getting an exotic or a 20 slot bag without the RNG).

@Danikat: The F&F finale lasts for 5 days though (from May 12th – May 16th). I think that’s a fair enough period of time for one to go into an instance and watch some cutscenes. If you happen to be away from your computer for the whole week, that’s unfortunate, but I think that ANet has given us a generous amount of time for what sounds like a short epilogue to wrap up the story.

I really loved the karka event, though it wasn’t without it’s problems. Issues of fairness and time constraints are legitimate ones, so it looks as though Anet might be sticking with the sequential format of F&F.

It could be possible for them to recreate the urgency and chaos of the final event in an instanced format, but it isn’t quite the same as having a large crowd of players fighting against giant, ‘active’ monsters. The design with the ramps and barrel rolls worked so well.

If they could work out any bugs with future events it would be great to see something like the karka event occur again in Tyria. The rewards were well worth the time put into it as well. Wish the other dungeons could be just as rewarding, though it isn’t necessary to receive a precursor every single time. Maybe a little more gold would be nice or more gold and exotic drops.
