Forum improvements
I agree that avatars and info about who is online would be good.
I’d rather go without post counts and registration dates because in my experience they don’t provide any construction information, and are usually used as a way to judge other posters.
Specifically an excuse to declare someones opinion invalid because they “only” have X posts and therefore clearly know nothing about anything.

Points on the Leaderboard would be a much more effective metric to measure if a poster knows what he is talking about
I’d rather see them fix the search function. It is borderline useless at the moment. I’m not concerned about having a little picture by my name. I don’t care if someone has 3,000,000 posts.
I would like to know how many posts I’ve in the future (This is my secondary post). Aswell as when I registred later, to see who’s been around here for sometime, see who’re newcomers to welcome them, see hwo many forum posts one has to know how active they’re.
Avatars to make it look nicer around the forums (more colors, maybe 150×250 picles) and to be noticed under that avatar.
Also, adding forum friends would be awesome!

Of course there’re cons and pros with everything, but I think we should focus on the pros it adds.

I agree with these points.
A Search function that is simply more effective and better at returning searches would be nice. I don’t know why but this one can’t seem to locate terms, or it has a cut-off of back posts that is way too limited. It would also be good if there was an option of just the name and topic as results rather than the whole text for every post.
Post counts does tend to encourage spamming, there isn’t any real need for it. Forum avatars would be fun but much lower priority to a working Search function.

- Fix the forums search function FIRST.

There are two things I would love to see on the forums. First is an ignore list just like we have in the game. If a user is in your forum ignore list, you never see posts made by them. The second would be a “Done with thread” button. When you click that button, that thread drops off your list of threads. That way, threads that I have no interest in anymore will quit popping back up to the top of the list.
As a help to people with forum searches, I found that you can setup custom Google searches that will search only a selected number of sites. I setup one for myself that only searches the GW2 forums. So far it works great.
Would like to see new posts since last visit.
The ability to go to the last post in the thread from the main forum pages.
Be able to stay logged in.
Of course after the search feature is fixed.

I have found the easiest way without having to set anything up is to simply google something like, "Guild Wars 2 forum (what ever you are looking for here). It seems to work fairly well and the newer posts are usually on top. I just don’t like it when someone here asks a question and gets a response from someone like, “This has been posted many times. Use the search function.”
I’ve tried to find trends in the search function and the best I can tell it is somewhat random. Most often it seems to be limited by the date of the posts, showing only a few posts from the same day. For example I just searched the word “guardian” and the results were two pages with only posts from today. Other times I have seen results from several days but mostly none with the keyword in the title. Every now and then I only get results showing posts I have read. I can see where this would be difficult for someone to research a topic before posting.
Please, once you finally fix the ‘search’ function, let us search the Dev Posts sub-forum. It is so difficult to go through nearly 300 pages of Dev responses manually looking for a response that answers a question in someone else’s thread. Please.
Anet, please just install php on your webserver and run a php based commercial forum software like invision power board which should perfectly suit all your needs. When you now come up with “security reasons” for not running php, well, that’s not php’s fault, but the admin’s (i mean, even facebook runs php/mysql and they seem to know why…).

Agreed, we really need an ignore list there.
