How is "Subscribe" supposed to work?

Q:

Sorry if it has been asked before, but I didn’t get how the “Subscribe” feature should work. I expected that subscribing to a thread implies that you were sent an e-mail whenever a new response has posted, but it simply doesn’t happen.
Is it a bug? Did I completely misunderstand the functionality? If yes, is there a way to enable instant topic reply notification?

Thank you.

I’d also like to know. It’s too cryptic for me to figure out.

I find this quite odd. There are numerous stable/featureful free and paid-for Forum packages/software. Reinventing the wheel can be fun at times I suppose … but the wheel should probably still be round and actually roll.

Then again, I guess all the square-wheels need some place to go, wish it was somewhere else though.

LOL. Good points well made.

The forum is sadly still lacking a number of basic features as of yet. I haven’t noticed any new features since release so it seems like they don’t have anyone working on improving the forum atm. I wouldn’t mind seeing less double posts merged if that frees employees up to give the forum the basic features that it should have.

I would like to see a feature that when you start creating your new topic on a old discussion and as you type in the words it auto searches for topics with the same words in the title or in a comment. It would then give a popup asking if you would like to post in the one of the many already made on-topic available. This way people who are new to the forums and are not aware of the search feature, do not make the mistake of making a thread duplicate.

Maybe reinventing the wheel doesn’t make sense because we are looking at it from a customer’s point of view.

We’ve seen better forums out there, so it is confusing to see such a simple, not fully functioning solution presented to us.

However, I would mention that if you look at it from a corporate lense, it might make sense.

I’ve seen corporate IT departments roll out sub-optimal solutions, simply because the developer wanted to learn how to use some new tool (i.e. develop their own marketable skills).

Also, these guys have performance appraisals, for pay raises and promotion considerations.

Saying you just installed software, from a commercial off the shelf forum package, doesn’t sound as impressive as saying you designed the official Guild Wars 2 forums from scratch.

Doesn’t matter that your solution doesn’t quite work (subscribe feature, ignore feature, etc.), or isn’t as fully featured as forum solutions from ages past.

OK so.. “subscribe” still doesn’t work. This is a vital feature for a forum like this. Please ArenaNet get someone on this asap. Thanks.
