Some threads have no edit/quote/report options
This is REALLY bad for me today. Refresh the page (even after clearing cache) rarely works.

Had this issue quite a few times too… a way to resolve it (albeit a bit of a hassle and probably too complex for some people), is to use format the URL yourself.. take the post URL, like for this one: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/forum/Some-threads-have-no-edit-quote-report-options then tack on the post number you want to quote and the thing you want to do, like ‘quote’
So if I wanted to quote the previous poster, it’d be something like:
(so.. URL / postnumber / quote )
I have it more and more often that I log in and reply to a thread. As soon as I replied I can only see an empty reply field to create a new post and I cannot actually see the thread again until I log out and in again or make an additional post.
I also have it often that I only get the permalink symbol and can no longer quote post. This also happens after posting initially that the quote and report buttons are missing.
Some open threads in the forum have no edit, quote or report function icons beside their posts. The only thing visible is the permalink.
There was actually a post I wanted to report, but was unable to do so because of the lack of these options.
Is this a bug, or are there some unlocked threads that lack these choices for a valid reason?
Was just trying to figure this out today, glad there is already a post about it. Please fix!!
For some reason, when I log in I don’t automatically see the “Quote” button or any others. It takes a few attempts of posting and clinking on various links to get them to show up, and even then it’s inconsistent. Am I using this wrong, or is it a genuine bug with the forums?
Forums are awful, and this subforum should have stickies with the known issues (but it doesn’t…).
I find posting fixes it so I tend to post “Dummy post to get quote buttons working…” and then delete it after I’ve made my proper post.
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
I say what I want to say in my post and then click the quote in the post I want to copy paste it. Yeah the forums need work.
This issue still persists. Any estimated time this will be fixed? I currently use the work around method but it’s a bit tedious (and not very new user friendly).

I’ve never been so infuriated about something so trivial before, this is so kittening annoying ^^
edit: then when i try and leave by hitting ’’back’’ I’m still stuck on this kittening page lol

In this very moment I had no buttons, as stated in the thread. No matter what I did, they were not appearing.
Then I answered to a thread in the Tech Support forum, and they appeared.
And no matter what I do, they are not disappearing now.
Probably something in the login function is not “saving” some state, and the “view thread” function doesen’t show anything more that is not shown to a “not logged in” user.
EDIT: Correction, some threads are still showing no buttons. But in this thread I did not see any buttons before i replied to a thread in the Tech support forum. Now i see them.

I’ve noticed that some of the pages are generating a JavaScript error in Firefox’s dev console.
[21:05:44.723] ReferenceError: _fg_votes is not defined @ https://d1r2pgr9caw5gy.cloudfront.net/assets/application-eff5047cb7cc094a4a63028058f92900.js :68
These pages do not display the quote or report buttons, and won’t let me switch time formats. I guess most of the forum’s JS setup dies from that error?
I can see all the options in this thread/area, but not in the last two I was reading. Very strange.
It is strange and I am having the same problem.
80 Necro, 80 Ranger, 80 Warrior, 80 Mesmer, 80 Engineer.
For me, at least, it’s FF. I can load the site up in FF and Chrome side by side and FF won’t have any buttons but Chrome will.
I get the same thing as teistiz (the “ReferenceError”). The div#_fg_votes is not there, so the JS trying to deal with it is failing. It’s a symptom to the problem of the missing id…so why is the id missing? It’s only there for logged in users…so why does part of the system think I’m logged in (the top nav) and part not think I’m logged in (the post line items)?
It’s really easy to replicate. So a google for ror session apache firefox might turn up something where FF has intermittent issues w/ RoR/Apache writing session cookies…? since it always works on chrome.
FF is still at ~20% market share (http://marketshare.hitslink.com/)...so probably ~20% of your site users are having this issue. Even if its not “critical”, it’s “in your face”.
…just sayin’
addendum: your parsing also need a bit of work.
“(http://marketshare.hitslink.com/)...so probably ~20% "
should be
“( http://marketshare.hitslink.com/ ) …so probably ~20% "
without the spaces
regular expressions are neat and all, but hard to get right, sometimes over engineering causes these issues.
It appears part of the problem is the forum is mixing secure and insecure content (http vs. https). Most modern browsers will ignore the insecure content without a warning, and depending on implementation can cause issues such as this (in the old days you would be given an option to display both content at once, IE still does this AFAIK).
However, there are other bugs as well at play. Still, I seem to have better luck with IE than Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. Your milage may vary.
Same problem here, really annoying not to be able to quote 80% of the time. I’m using Firefox.
Yeah it’s quite irritating. I’m having this same issue too, in chrome, firefox, and internet explorer.

I have this since I started using this forum. Fix please.

Just figured i’d come give this thread a nudge after rolling my eyes at one of the moderators posting a spiel about using the Report Post function if someone is harassing you on the forums.
Very cute. Because we all know that button is accessable ever so often, just like edit, quote, and the +1 that still doesn’t do anything.
Same problem, of course. I gotta say, I notice more bugs in the forums than the game. I know that should feel relieving but it’s more baffling.
Hi everyone.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I will forward the information today to the forum team so this can be looked into.
Umm… we’re still having this problem.
Confirmed that this is not fixed after the forum maintenance. It seems to happen most often with the first and last pages of a multi page thread, though it can happen to any page.
Refreshing sometimes, but not always, fixes the problem.
Navigating back and forth between different pages in the thread sometimes, but not always, fixes the problem.
Observed in firefox and chrome.
They seriously need to get this fixed. Every single time i want to quote someone the button isn’t there and doesn’t show up no matter how many times i refresh or do anything. But of course it shows up here, where i don’t want to quote anyone.
If the people in charge of the forums can’t get basic functions to work reliably they should get rid of their current forum system and use one of the other premade ones out there.
Constantly running into this. It’s a real pain in the kitten
As far as I can tell, it doesn’t matter what browser you use, whether you clear your cache, or anything else. The bug happens when a post has been voted on and it tries to check to see if you are allowed to vote (since you can’t vote twice). _fg_votes is undefined, crashing the script and preventing the other post functions from being enabled as permissions allow, so, as a user, theres very little you can do about it.
5 minutes of digging is all I’m willing to put into obfuscated code.

logging in to the forum again to remove this bug worked for me
EDIT: it could also have been related to a sort of spam filter, since I had just made a post in another forum.
I think it occurs pretty reliable, usually when I’d like to quote a post.
Having the same issues, using either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer – no reply, report or edit post options on some pages. For example, I’m viewing this thread right now: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FOV-Field-of-View-Changes-Beta-Test-Feedback-Thread/page/6#post566641
… and I can’t see the “Quote this User” arrow icon or the “Report this Post” flag icon.
However, I can see it on this very page. Bizarre.
I second that. I’m not often on the forums so when I just tried to quote someone I felt like a total noob for not finding the buttons.
Irony was that right after I posted a reply, the buttons appeared. After I edited my post to include a quote, they magically disappeared again. Very elusive, those buttons.
I have had this problem as well. I usually see it when I am viewing a thread when not logged in (the buttons don’t show up then as they shouldn’t), then login to make a reply. Often, when doing that, the buttons do not appear. To get around this, I will generally move back to the forum front page, login, then clear my cache, then go to the page I want to comment on or edit. Often, the buttons will show up then.
Sometimes, as just happened for this reply, it doesn’t work, and clearing the cache again and refreshing the page will, as it did in this instance.
Yep, this is still a problem. I noticed the time of Eva’s response to this thread is “about a month ago”. Not that this is an excessively long time, but I wonder if we could get an update on this.
It’s by no means “rage-inducing” (I’m not shaking my angry fist at the forum gods) but I do consider it a “quality of life” issue here on the forums.
Hey all, this is a high priority issue we’ve had our forum programmer working on. The fix for this bug is in testing right now, and we hope this will be solved when we deploy our next forum update.

Ask and ye shall receive!
Thanks so much, Mark, for that update! And on a general note, thanks for the GW2 team being so responsive with updates and information. Coming from a different game’s forums (and I won’t say which game!) the level of activity on the forums from your staff is a breath of fresh air.
Cheers!
It gets fixed on its own after a while, but it’s rather annoying when you want to quickly correct something you just wrote.
There’s also a problem that makes the next page appear even if it’s empty when your post is the last one of the current page.
You have to manually edit the path and replace the number of the page.

Yep, I’ve gotten that as well.
Making a dummy post seems to help sometimes, once you have the buttons back you can delete it.
This is still an issue.
I hope it’s fixed too. This has been going on for a very long time. On my end, it’s very hard to predict whether I’ll have the icon-tools or not. (Ironically similar to the behavior of bugged traits in game).
Hey again, everybody. We just pushed an update that included a fix for this bug. Please report here if you still experience these buttons disappearing. Thanks!
Some problems still persists – screenshot attached. Spamming shift-F5 doesn’t help and I’ve tested this issue with Chrome and IE.
That is a separate issue not related to the one this thread is in regards to. Please post about that issue in one of the threads relating to that topic. Thank you.
