Anet, stop it!
I’m someone who can’t take the time to complete the living story and get the rewards in the time frame it allows. Temporary content is the only thing I don’t like about this game. I have realized it is dungeon armor sets and weapons for me. I don’t have an issue with them bringing back items that people like me have missed as long as they aren’t just giving them away. If you need to work just as hard for the item this time around what’s the big issue? Just because you were playing the first go around you are entitled to that item and you alone?
Always up wind from my prey. I want them to smell my farts!
There’s something to be said for offering souvenirs to players that say, “yeah, I was able to be present at a unique time in the game’s history.” I would like there to be more of these skins, minis, and titles.
At the same time, this should be limited to a few events — not every event needs to have an exclusive item.
But regardless of my preferences, ANet has made it clear repeatedly that they don’t believe in the idea of exclusive rewards or items: the so-called exclusive dyes are limited-time availability; they’ve brought back skins and items to the gem shop; and in GW1, they made it possible for anyone to get nearly any mini (even those awarded for special contests/game boxes) and any festival hat. They have decided to err on the side of inclusiveness.
Despite my preferences, I find it hard to argue that such an attitude is bad for Massively Multiplay games, especially as they release to new markets (e.g. China).
You win the achievement, title, and mini by defeating Liadri — not by simply being around for a certain two week period a year ago. There’s nothing about the time frame in which you beat her that makes it more impressive. Besides, expecting ANet to make elaborate content like this available only once for a short time, then junking it, is silly and rather wasteful.
If they suddenly started handing out Liadri minis and titles to everyone, just for logging in, then you’d have a case. But as long as people are legitimately doing what they have to do to earn the rewards, I don’t see what the problem is.
I highly suggest you stop working against yourself. part of GW has always been “status” even if a super rare weapon or armor piece looks like trash to you, if its super rare.. your going to show it.
well.. my examples of this in GW2 is Liadri mini, and for more of an example. even the Black Lion weapon skins.. stop releasing minis and items, giving us a date to get the stuff by, and then 4 months later make them available again. its a huge slap in the face for playing YOUR game. you did this in GW1 too and has upset many players. like the festival hats from early years that even a new player can now get? common! horrible. many people I know feel the same as me, and it means enuff for me to get angry at my monitor and get GW2 off the dang screen so I can come to the forums and throw a kitten fit about it.
STOP IT.

I didn’t bother reading past the first few words, am I safe in assuming special snowflake thread?
Just don’t observe that they have an entitlement problem or you’ll get infracted like I did.
It’s crazy that the OP openly acknowledges that Anet regularly re-releases items the community “self-appoints” as “exclusive” items and sees this issue as an ANet issue to solve. Newsflakittenhe items are NOT “exclusive” and were never claimed to be so or that Anet would never make them available in the game again….that (obviously incorrect) belief is something you own mind came up with…..
They are “special” items originally tied to certain time limited events…..they do not make you “special” because you were playing when they were available (tho some of them are more difficult to obtain than others).
This is player perception problem, not an, “Anet is screwing me over”, problem.
I didn’t bother reading past the first few words, am I safe in assuming special snowflake thread?
Yes….and Anet just KEEPS on making them not-so-special….since back in GW1….and the OP just doesn’t get it (but Anet needs to STOP).
(there’s a Wicked Witch of the West, “I’m melting!!!” joke here somewhere).

Punishing new players just because they joined late saying “you can’t have this because you didnt’ play at that time” is a good way to make sure new players don’t stick around. Rare items that take a lot of hard work should be limited but just because you happened to play during a specific time on GW does not make YOU elite.
I don’t mind old content coming back to let others have a chance at completing it. What I do wish, however, is that ANet would add a completion date for achievements and make them linkable, so you could say, “Yeah, I did Liadri last year, before she got nerfed” (assuming she had gotten nerfed; purely hypothetical situation). Then, your status would still be intact because there’d be a way to show your skill.
It seems the OP is still absolutely clueless on the message ArenaNet is trying to convey here.
You can ditch GW2, play a game you actually like, then once the “one time rare prestigious” items Colin said he wanted to keep prestigious are gone.. a few months later after the LS season 2.. you can get them again while farming events!
Wow! How convenient!
You don’t have to complete the content of the LS to get it’s rewards now. You don’t have to waste your time doing standard MMORPG quests like killing 50 butterflies and fetching signs anymore, just take a break and play a game you actually enjoy playing while this one milks it’s dedicated fanbase for gems, then come back and farm a gold blitz dedicated server or the bazaar for a few days and BAM, you got them and can now go back to quitting or playing some other game.
Oh that’s right even while milking players for cash they are still being slapped around lol. The first spring minis? You know, the baby hippo and the baby moa mini pets.. yeah those minipets that were released one by one each week for 400 gems a piece? You can buy them now or you could buy them a few days ago for less gems each AND all at the same time.
Learn. They don’t care that you stuck around and played the game, they don’t care for people who basically beta tested this game for China, earning these items as a incentive to continue playing those horrid 2 week updates riddled with “Kill x rat 100 times, find x NPC,, fix: x, open x amount of boxes, etc” MMO quests.
Also the mask and the candy corn mini are holiday rewards, not even holiday rewards are one time huh.
yes stop it. Please give us real prestige item like Chaos of Lyssa.
Getting an item which take a few hours by achievement isn’t prestige.
