Change name of Dolyak Race
I just assumed it was a event, rather than a race.
ive completed the rave several times (roundabout 7) within the first week of this event but never one skill failed me
either it was me klicking “do the ligning jump into some gust!”
or it worked perfectly well
sure u cant just the wind jump if you are midair….
…anyway
naming it something else idk since it got elements and the feeling of guild sprint
something like sprint or race fits quite well
and since its over in a couple of days i doubt they will change its name…
ah and also even if the position u land on doesnt effect anything..
the fact that u can race with others and enjoy being the fastest or start the same time like your friends do… (which makes it much more fun) lets it name shine in a new light
I will agree it’s not a race, more like dolyak rush(basically a nerf version of guild rush).
But not sure what glitch you are talking about, ran at least twice per day since patch, never seen any glitch.(blow off by the wind is not a glitch, and only failing the last leap may make you start over, everywhere else there’s a safety net.)
“The skills are intentionally glitched.
Actions that normally work every time, only work most of the time here.
Each time a skill fails, (and at least one will every trip) you usually start over.”
I can’t say I’ve ever had that problem, and I’ve done the Dolyak event more times than I could count.
The skills can and do sometimes lag,
particularly lighting pull, this can cause both and over or under reaching when activated.
This was very annoying at the beginning of the festival for me, but now not so much.
yeah doylak isn’t a race, it’s basically guild rush(which is actually incorrect as well, because you’re generally better off not rushing.)
but really….to come to the forums and start a thread about it?
Well, the game is doing very well, if this is all there is to complain about >.>’
This is not a race.
This is not a race by any definition.
Yes, it is. Participants are asked to make their way from a start to a finish in a given span of time, which is all there needs to be for it to be a race. Perhaps you think that by being a race, there has to be direct competition between participants. In that sense, there is no competition between players in this event because nobody interacts with each other in any way and, as you say later,
The rewards are not awarded according to which position you finish in.
It’s still a race though.
There is extremely little talent involved.
By that, I can only assume that you mean that it takes very little skill to reach the finish line with the amount of time available to reach it, and I would agree. However, to say that trying to finish first takes no skill would be silly.
The skills are intentionally glitched.
Actions that normally work every time, only work most of the time here.
Each time a skill fails, (and at least one will every trip) you usually start over.
The 3 elemental spirits generally only block normally good moves of the leaders.
Tinfoil hat conspiracy.
Maybe, “The Generally Intentionally Glitched Dolyak Experience” would work for a name.
They could replace “race” with “rush” since it’s basically the same thing as a guild rush.
Perhaps then more people will try it.
No, anybody who is looking to blow some time racing is already spending time in Sanctum Sprint and not wasting their time waiting around for >8 minutes to get a reward that isn’t even necessarily gold because they can’t race more than once or guarantee enough participation for a gold reward or by having to suffer moving around invisible traps.
Sanctum Sprint is what exists for people who want to race. If the devs want to start paying attention to caring about activities, maybe you can convince them to improve that instead with better placement-based rewards or less-frustrating global attacks.
Activities are dead.
Sanctum Sprint record times: any checkpoints – 39.333, all checkpoints – 1:55.633
Well, I only support the idea of the name change is the new name is “The cuterace” or “The world’s cutest stampede”.
The Doly race is awesome.
Guess I was throwing a bunch of stuff in there, when I really and wanted to see if anyone else noticed how if you are in the lead, the elemental spirits just hound you till you fail. It doesn’t matter which skill is used when a spirit blows you sideways, they fail and you die.
So a race would imply everyone has an equal chance to win, but if you get good at it, your not treated equal.
A race would provide rewards based on how we place, however you can start when others have finished and still be rewarded the same.
Not saying it’s not fun, just that starting 2 minutes after everyone else makes it a lot easier without all those spirit effects.

What elemental spirit? Do you mean the wind that blows once you get to the lightning jumps? If so, all you have to do there is wait for the wind to stop blowing and then jump.

probably means one of the activate champs/veterans?
I’m talking about when you wait for the wind to stop and then when you jump, you and anyone close, only make it half way and fall to your death.
I only see this when I’m the leader or near to it.
Don’t you see those blasts of wind all through the event? They only seem to have effect when your doing the last three jumps.
If it’s something else, it doesn’t matter to me, because I make a point of starting it several minutes late now.

The wind blasts only happen on the lightning jump section (the last three or four jumps before the sprint at the end). And they happen throughout the entire duration of therace. If you’re not making it across and dying, I don’t know what’s going on because:
1. There are safety nets for that part. It’s pretty difficult to miss the nets and actually fall to your death.
2. You can see the wind as it’s blowing; if you press 3 (your lightning pull skill) as soon as you see the wind stop, you’ll make it across. Now, if you have latency issues, then that could be your issue with making it across with the lightning pull, but that’s a separate issue.
There’s no added penalty for people who are in first/second/third place. I’ve been in first and second place on the race quite a few times, and I’ve never had an issue where the wind doing what it wasn’t supposed to.

I think you’re having skill lag and it’s only more noticeable to you when you’re in first because. 1.It’s more frustrating, 2. there’s often alot of people around/just behind and that slows down frame rates.
Actually, I see those wind gusts anywhere someone uses one of the 3 skills. They just don’t have any affect till those last 3 jumps. Yes there are nets, and they are a great improvement over last year, but I’ve never landed on one from a failed jump, only from trying to jump through that wind once or twice till I learned.
I’d like to believe it’s skill lag but the players near me suffer the same fate. They fall half way through their jump too. The only place I see any significant lag in the game is meleeing Tequatyl or the Karka Queen.
Hmmm, it’s like if you were to use the 3 skill but didn’t have a target. You would still jump in the direction you want to go but then you would quickly stop and fall.
Tumult, I don’t think you’re understanding. You know how there are traps on the ground as you run up? Well, the wind on the last three jumps is like that. If you get hit with the wind, then anyone who zaps skill 3 at the same time you did will also get knocked down halfway through the jump. This is not something that just happens when you’re in the lead. There’s a visual cue to watch for a safe spot to zap across. You just have to pay attention.
The skills aren’t glitched. It’s an intentional challenge in the rush that is very easy to navigate. Again, it happens to everyone- not just the leaders- and it’s working as intended, near as I can tell.

I’ve come in first place many times. This race takes skill.
I read the title, and thought “why is he asking to rename the dolyak whole race? What does he dislike about the name ‘Dolyak’?” XD XD XD

thats………not possible.
the wind is only at lightning pull stops.
Maybe you need to play with your graphic settings and find a way to see it clearer.

alternatively, you could record a video for us all to see.
The skills glitching is NOT intentional nor is it related to the actual claim that this activity is not really a race.
- ANY movement skill will be effected by your latency to the server you are connected to.
- All of the Aspect Skills are movement skills.
- To suggest that Anet designed them to glitch when latency happens is absurd…..

You’re either not waiting until the wind stops (which, again, is only on those last three jumps for the race and affect everyone who runs) or you’re having latency problems that are interrupting your jump.
Edit to add: You see a wind gust around a player when they use the 2 (wind jump) skill. But that doesn’t affect anyone but the player using the skill. Are you sure you’re using the correct skill at the lightning pull section? You should be getting the purple buff that’s called Lighting Pull; that’s how you get across those three jumps at the end.

What are you talking about when you refer to skills glitching out? Never once has a skill not worked for me during this event. There are traps and winds that you have to avoid, so maybe you’re confusing it with those?
You are racing against the clock instead of other dolyaks.

My bad…misunderstood the original post. The Aspect Skills glitching (latency delay) has been an issue since last year so I made the kittenumption you were talking about that.
The winds are new (I think…don’t recall them last year) and a bit a of a PitA, I’ll agree.
