Hey everyone

After missing out on fighting her last year I’m determined to beat her and I’m loving the challenge so far. As the title suggests I am a Guardian and I have been switching between using greatsword/staff and greatsword/sceptre+shield. I find phase one easy but as soon as the next phase triggers I become flustered and always die from the clones blowing me up.

I’d love any tips from others who have fought Liadri in a similar way. Thanks

I used GS and scepter/shield when I beat here with my guard the first time around. The second phase was just basically full-on kiting with scepter for me. I used shouts, retreat was helpful just to keep moving, stand your ground for the stability when a rift spawned. Renewed focus as an “oh crap” safety net if I couldn’t get out of the shadowfalls or clones.

The problem of course is that dps can be an issue. Boosters and food help if you have them. But that was basically just a matter of memorizing the patterns, paying attention with timing for stability or invulnerability, and doing it over and over until it worked.

Everything (aoes, shadows, etc.) in the fight can be blocked, so for your heal I would recommend shelter and take offhand focus instead of shield for the block. Also, in my build I have points in the radiance traitline, and that gives me Justice is Blind where my f1 blinds stuff around me. It’s helpful because you can blind the shadows when they get too close to you. Also have retreat and save yourselves on your bar so you can just run around (near the center so you don’t have to cover a large circumference) to avoid the aoes.

I have mix of zerk and knight gear with DPS traits.

Use sword+focus/greatsword. Make sure you have retaliation up for as much time as you can. Have virtue of jusctice traited so you blind nearby foes with it + dont forget you have GS #3, sword #2 and focus #4, use them!

At start of phase two run for few seconds to gain distance from shades, Liadri will soon get to you, dps for few seconds and run. Repeat. Also dont forget the red circles appear in this order: 1,3 → 2,4 → 1,3 → 2,4. Use your focus #5, renewed focus, virtue of courage and shelter to block the circles, or simply dodge out of them. Never use all your endurance, keep 50% every time instead for the panic situations.

I only used scepter, its the only thing you need.

I am not saying you are wrong, just want to help OP. I had 30-40 tries with scepter before I realised I won’t do it. When I switched to GS/sword+focus, I only needed few tries. It was so much easier. But I am sure it depends on build as well…

Did it with my WvW build/armor using scepter/focus.
Some random 6/0/ something.

I think Liadri builds are highly YMMV since your play style is an important factor, but the build that finally “clicked” for me was:

Traits: 0/2/0/6/6 – Signet Mastery, Superior Arias, Empowered Might, Pure of Voice, Vengeful, Absolute Resolution, Purity of Body.

Skills: Signet of Resolve, Stand Your Ground, Hold The Line, Retreat, Renewed Focus

Weapons: GS/Staff (I found Staff way better for phase 2 since it pierces; my scepter shots kept getting body blocked by clones.)

Gear: A mix of Soldier’s, Zerker’s and Zealot’s not because I had a plan but because the first armor set I made was Soldier’s and I’m slowly switching to Zealot’s/Zerker’s. I’d say ideally as much Zealot’s as possible because both Vigorous Precision and Empowering Might both trigger on crits and Selfless Daring and Signet of Resolve both scale incredibly well with Healing Power.

Strategy: You can speed phase 1 up by a lot if after throwing the first orb you use GS #5 on the clone next to you, run over to the second whirlpool (typically on the opposite side of the arena and annoyingly close to a wall) and use GS #5 again to yank the clone in.

For phase 2 don’t actually worry about hitting Liadri too much; keep her targeted and spam Staff #1 in her direction, but focus most of your attention on moving to safe spots as close to the center of the arena as possible, avoiding clones (if you see a clump of them you can use Virtue of Justice to blind all of them and then run into them to clear them out), and keeping an eye out for rifts (if a rift is close, Staff #1 can 1-shot it without having to even target it). Use whichever shout is off cooldown for condition cleansing and you’ll end up with an insane amount of swiftness . Try to avoid using Virtue of Resolve unless you plan on refreshing it with Renewed Focus since its passive is helping your endurance regen.

If she isn’t dead by the time you have ~10s left you could consider a final burst by switching back to GS and meleeing her down, but I never had that problem.

well scepter can be abused once you understand how bad the AI pathing in this game is, strafing in a circle while purely AA will win the fight and you almost take no dmg except from range spells.

you could prob use something like 4/0/0/6/4 (sceptor 10%, Pure of voice, and virtue IX)

Also, if you find phase 1 easy but phase 2 is flustering you, consider doing a few attempts of not even bothering to dps her in phase 2 and just running out the clock to get used to the phase 2 mechanics.

the best way to do this is by getting multiple adds in the circle for more than 1 orb at a time, the fight is exactly the same exactly the same otherwise.

Last year it was bugged form the sly arena where it wasn’t rewarding the acheev and I didn’t know it. Essentially I was able to throw 13 orbs and kill liadari in the same time frame.

but you can just wear zerker gear, the healing is fine you also dont need the dome, just use triple shouts

gs + scepter focus make it a cake walk. GS 5 pull the visions to make orbs in p1. Auto attack/smite spam in p2 with focus 5 giving you a safety net.

Also picking up Pure of Voice makes dealing with the condis pretty easy too

Well I did it killing shadow one by one but stability tip helped, btw. she’s so fragile that I barely did it because she was dying too fast and I couldn’t stop attacking because my attacks are giving vigor.
