Not a sarcastic thread.

I know the living world forum section is mostly a place for the masses to whine or rage or criticize ANet for whatever reason, but not for me.

ANet really succeeded on the whole “anti-zerging?” theme that had plagued its previous Living World events. Remember then? We had a bunch of people complain about that too.

What I love about Boss blitz is it puts an emphasis on knowing each boss’s specific mechanics, and actually somewhat requires some level of skill and coordination for a successful Gold medal run.

And most importantly, the rewards for a coordinated and skillful run is top-notch. A total of 10 champ bags can be farmed in as little as 7-10minutes (including the time it takes to donate). I don’t think anything in this game so far has that fast of a farm. And because the fights still require some level of skill and coordination, I never feel like it’s too repetitive, but actually challenging just enough so that I still feel accomplished when we get gold.

PS: I mostly exclusively fight Boomboom with 10~ish people stressing the need for DPS builds and the focus on Turret and dodging.

Anyone else sharing a similar mindset?

Furthermore I could even imagine that they reuse some of these bosses for Fractal end bosses, to introduce more variety there.

I am sure that if I ever lucked on to a server that was doing it right I would agree with you. The ideas behind what it should look like when it works are sound. It’s just that they obviously didn’t consider what it would feel like when it didn’t work. Struggling through for 45 minutes in the first attempt before we understood scaling was a painful experience, and then to be only given 2 champ bags and a green after the ordeal was a kick in the teeth. For once the whiners have just grievance.

I am looking forward to getting on a map where people listen when you tell them not to scale the boss up, but unfortunately for a lot of players the damage has already been done. It’s a shame because I like what they have tried to do here, they just failed to consider the most likely outcome rather than the most desirable outcome.

It is a kick in the teeth, but isn’t that the point? If people just zerg it they get kicked in the teeth. That way hopefully they’ll learn to be more organized. By offering little reward for zerging they’re basically telling all the people who refuse to split up “get out, this isn’t for you” so personally I’m all for that. The people who insist on zerging are the ones that are screwing it up for people who want to do it right.

I’m loving the blitz. Very fun when people are willing to organize.

It’s a kick in the teeth when it should be a rap over the knuckles. It should be a gentle reminder not common assault if they don’t want to loose their player base. Especially for those players who are trying to tell others to do the right thing but are being ignored.

Also, on the “get out, this isn’t for you”, the message a lot of people are getting is “if you are not in an organised guild with teamspeak this update isn’t for you”. Yes, I know it can be done on random maps, but I’ve never been on one where that has happened. I am willing to play the event the way it is meant to be done, I am even willing to help organise it, I just haven’t been on a map yet that’s willing to do it.

Blitz is fast and kinda fun, but only when you do it on an organized map (like a TTS one). Otherwise its a long, pretty pointless, grind. And most maps don’t seem to get that zerging one at a time isn’t the correct way to do this, which is unfortunate.

I don’t like it.
For me the scaling is not right. I mean, just because four players joined the group fighting a boss the boss become unbleatable (at least withing the time frame required)? It’s pretty weird.

Even when I got lucky and things went smoothly was exactly fun.
Maybe was exiting a few times. But farming it?
No thanks. I’m glad that I got my achievs and I don’t have to do it again.

I like my content more relaxed. Not running against timers and needing top notch organization. I like the more relaxed laid back approach to the game.
But, hey, this event is not for players like me.

Serves them right, if people can’t understand something as simple as:

“Use the bird food to lure them from the boss”

Then they deserve to waste 30 minutes on a boss and have only greens to show for it. Even worse they’re the first ones to ask for a rez, yes I’ll rez you the first few times but after 3 deaths in the same way I just won’t bother.

A couple of servers over here in Europe have already dedicated part of our community teamspeak to farm the Boss Blitz for gold rewards. As far as I can tell the organisation is running pretty reliably over the whole day and it gets advertised frequently in map chat to not exclude anyone.
This is in no way tied to any larger guild either, just an ever-changing bunch of people grouping up. I frankly see no reason why others shouldn’t be able to do the same, and I certainly haven’t shed a tear over not getting another round of dull zerging content.

eih no. It didn’t fix the anti-zerg theme.

If it did, I won’t join 95% of pavilion and find everyone zerging.

A few people get to enjoy instance raiding I guess. Which Anet said specifically they won’t add in the beginning.

I finally got into another organized pavillion run on Saturday night. Did a gold and a silver run. Only reason we got silver on the second run is that we had a couple too many people on the group taking boom boom. It was such a wonderful pleasure to do the runs as intended, with small groups(6-8 players) taking each boss at the same time. Each run only took around 6-10 minutes, as the bosses went down fairly easy.

The rewards, especially for the time spent, were great!

I just wish the majority of the runs were like this. I popped in again on Sunday night, and there was the zerg again, of 30+ people taking one boss at a time….uggggghhhhh.
It seems like that when people try to organize the pavillion run as intended, that most of the time, either other players there don’t know, don’t care, or are just too busy dancing, jumping around showing off, or dazzling others with their cool gear……..apparently too busy with all that to pay any attention to people trying to get an organized run going.

You would think that most people would just want to spend 6-10 minutes on the run, get the gold or silver award, and then do it again. But guess I am wrong, as it seems that most want to join the zerg and spend 40 agonizing minutes to get the bronze award.

Just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Ah well, guess I will just keep popping in and out to the pavillion looking for the organized runs.

I would enjoy Boss Blitz a lot more if I had encountered more organization on my mega server. The first couple of days were great because commanders showed up and staged at each boss and it went very well. It was a lot of fun. After that I guess interest waned and now it is do one boss, die a lot (not me..lol), move on to the next etc. because bronze is good. I keep popping in looking for organized runs and hoping. Those were a LOT of fun. I think Boss Blitz is a neat thing. What amazes me is how many still have not figured out the mechanics and die, die, die and just lay there asking for their obligatory rezz…

Sure there are random rules that forbid zerging, but seriously when you kill any of those six bosses, do you feel more achieved than when you killed queensdale’s troll??

I used to kill the troll in queensdale while having breakfast, u know one hand in cofee and another in the mouse, doing it wasn’t exciting but had it’s right mood and momment. The blitz bosses fall in a blan middle ground, easy yet annoying s**t to get done.

Yea, people need to realize when they die, that it is quicker to just port back to the center, get healed up, and come back to the fight, rather than waiting for a rez.

On the getting into organized runs topic, someone here on the forums had a good suggestion…….put up a lfg tag that says something like “lfg taxi blitz”…..said that got good responses from people in organized blitz runs. Think I might try that some and see how it works.

I find queensdale and frostgorge to be an utter borefest. Players need no conscience for location placement, dodging, or even skill use. Literally everyone can autoattack with #1 and that’s about it.

So yeah, I feel more achieved than doing Queensdale. I for one almost never did those trains in the first place. It has no mood except the mood of being bored and not knowing what else there is to do in a game.

I can verify, after doing a couple of gold runs tonight in the boss blitz……putting up a “/lfg taxi boss blitz” is very effective for getting into organized runs…….worked great for me, at least.

But, if you have a ranged character, be sure to get into one of the groups that have a lot of melee players……if you get too many ranged players in a group, makes it difficult to take down the boss quick.

Commanded Boomboom tonight, was quite fun again. We got Silver Medal first attempt followed by 6 Gold Medals before maintenance came up. I’ll say this: If you are strict in only allowing high DPS characters and no uplevels in Boomboom, while also calling out TURRET ASAP, Boomboom lost HP the fastest in my instance for 3 Medals.

The LFG tool was there to essentially get 6 Commanders on the map and ferry anyone else if we needed more people. If my party wasn’t full I always started a LFG to see if I can get more people in. Basically what was initially a map that lacked Commanders, we were hardcapped by the end (usually takes 5-10mins for new players to be ferried in).

The fun factor comes from the fact that a group of strangers at first were organized to beat 6 Bosses simulanteously while getting really, really good loot. I say ANet had improved on open world raids than the Marionette event we had before. And the whole anti-zerging theme here will make anyone who’s interested in good loot to join or create organized maps even if nobody knew each other initially.

Blitz dem gud fellow playas.

That’s pretty much the only way, but it seems to work pretty well. It looks like it filters out the “I just want to run with the Zerg” crowd. I don’t know if the need to do this is an indictment of the event design’s lack of direction, or the average player.

I like the blitz too. If one of your guilds is large enough, there is always someone on a good server with 6 commanders who can get you on his map. And unlike Teq or Wurm there is a lot of people going in and out so you can make it 99% of the time. Once there it’s pure farming, with 6 different bosses and slightly different techniques (i.e. for the Ogre, Shuraksomething, I go scepter/sword on my mesmer, which is nice change from zerg-oriented-GS). Do all 6 once, log out, lots of karma and T5/6.

Then it’s hilarious when logging back to some default server and seeing a huge zerg trying to bring down Boom Boom still at 95%, rage on mapchat, no one focusing the turret, no one listening to advice, etc…

Honestly no matter how frustrating it can be for unorganized (and come on, it’s not that hard to ‘organize’), it’s change in the right direction (like Marionnette was) that makes you feel something else than just a auto-attacking-part-of-the-zerg.

There are a couple of things that bother me about this event. The first is this mindset that Anet and some of the players have of “the masses need to learn how to play properly/we need to teach you how to play better.” There are lots of resources in game and outside the game for improving your play. The players that want to get better will do so regardless of this type of content being presented to them. On the other side, there are players who just want to log on for an hour or two and have fun playing a game. They don’t want to min/max their build, they don’t want to spend 15 minutes going over strategies, they just want to play; and trying to force them to “learn” could just easily cause them to quit playing as it could cause them to improve.

Then there are the problems when these two different groups of people are thrown together in the same instance. Neither group’s playstyle is “right” or “wrong” but they have different goals and don’t work together well. Eg: there are a couple of 5 man groups in the pavillion that want a gold or silver reward and take down 5/6 bosses quickly, but a 50 man zerg spends an hour on Boom-boom. The small groups get a bronze reward even though they were working hard for gold, and the large group has to put up with a dozen snide remarks and insults.

This brings me to my last point, “Why does Anet keep putting this kind of stuff out in the open world?” People are already effectively creating raid instances by fiddling around with the taxi system. If we’re going to keep getting content which requires above average levels of teamwork and coordination, why can’t we just get proper raids where we have control over who gets in rather than trying to organize PUGs or get a taxi to an organized instance?

Putting this kind of content in mostly underused maps with “guild item thingy” to start it is fine and welcomed (and, well, modified a bit to lose whole “GTFO” mentality that weve seen lately becasue of this event)

Putting this kind of content in LS/Festivals is no no, especially if no alternative is provided.

I certainly wouldn’t call it ‘begging’. You just put up something like ‘/lfg taxi gold boss blitz’ and then get into a good map, and then help ferry more people in, if there aren’t many people there. But yea, the lfg tag seems to be the best way to get into organized bb runs. I also find that if you get into disorganized pavillions, you can easily go to one of the areas that the boss is already gone and take down the vets, as there are several categories for taking down the different vets on the AP list. I did this for several runs that I got into that weren’t organized, or that fell into the bronze due to some mistake in the run. Went and killed vets in other areas and got 4 AP slots done while waiting around for the bronze runs to complete.

But that’s just me…..I like to complete the AP lists for the special events. Got my ap for the pavillion completed last night, and it felt good….plus I got over 1200 tokens for doing it….which, with the few hundred tokens I already had, gave me plenty to buy whatever I want from the token trader.

I probably won’t go back to the pavillion much now, except for super organized runs, as my AP for that event is completed. Probably will go back mainly to help out my wife, as she hasn’t even tried the pavillion yet. But will still try to do a few more gold runs with or without her, as the rewards are so good, and I will probably need some more tokens at some point. Might even try my hand at organizing, or helping organize some gold runs.

I know a lot of people have a lot of problems with the pavillion, and I can understand why to a certain extent, as there are players in this game that have real problems with change and/or adapting. But I find the pavillion to be a good challenge…..the challenge being to try and get a mess of pugs to communicate and execute the runs in a coordinated manner. When that is done, the bb runs are actually pretty easy.

Anyways, best of luck to those still trying to get into the gold runs.

I don’t know why people say that the Boss Blitz is a challenge.

It’s a challenge only for the one who organize the run. Coordinating the groups and all.

But for the regular player not so much.

Grabbing and throwing seeds. Not DPSing when you’re not supposed to DPS. Killing the turret when spawn. Evading bad stuff. Hardly a challenge.

True, when compared to say the Gauntlets or Soloing dungeons it’s not really challenging. But as far as games go I always defined ‘challenging’ as “if I don’t do this right I’ll die or fail” and this does fit that, which most of the world bosses and such simply don’t.

I wouldn’t call this hard at all. But I can fail if I get lazy, so it’s fun and keeps me active instead of tabbed out doing whatever while I afk attack a world boss with the zerg.

Agreed. But you would be surprised at how many players, through their actions, seem to have a serious problem/challenge with doing the things that you list. Fortunately, they’re not in the majority.

And completely agree with your second sentence…..that is the real challenge to doing a successful gold run.

Well, seeing that this is now going to be around until July 1st… and after reading this thread, I think I’ll give it another try using the lfg taxi gold boss blitz method.

And I think Hydroclasm pretty much nailed it… there are definitely (at least) two different play styles working against each other here… and in much the same way that Anet tried to clobber the players over the head with teach the players to “stop zerging”, I hope Anet will learn something from this event too… that putting content requiring this kind of organization in the open world just seems to frustrate EVERYone.

For those who want to do it right… it’s like slamming your head against a brick wall trying to teach/convince the casuals to do it right also. And the casuals would like to just mindlessly sleepwalk through their own living hell play without having to pay that much attention (even if it does take forever), and not have a bunch of people yelling at them the whole time.

And of course, a third group would just be the people who have chat disabled and truly ARE just sleepwalking through this… I wonder what goes through their head after working on BoomBoom for an hour straight.

But yeah, I’d be all for this in a raid… not in an open world “festival”

Ok… so how exactly is the LFG Taxi Gold Boss Blitz supposed to work?

I just tried it three times in a row… each time someone joined my party, then immediately left which deleted my party…

I don’t get it.

what am I supposed to be doing?

They don’t even SAY anything… they just join… I start to type something and they leave.

LFG is the way to go for this. Getting gold in Baka Blitz is super easy when you’re in an organized group, and LFG is the way to find it.

I kept forgetting that tool even exists, since we went, what, a year without it? And it’s still in beta?

They don’t even SAY anything… they just join… I start to type something and they leave.

Just open up the tool and wait until you see someone advertising a party like “Taxi to boss blitz gold” and join them, then right click their portrait and do “Join in Crown Pavilion” and quickly leave the party so someone else can join, too.

I get it now… I was putting Taxi Gold Boss Blitz… when I should have been simply looking for it. Basically I was advertizing as if I was trying to pull people in… and that is why people were joining and leaving.

However, there also seemed to be a bug or something, because if I start the party and someone joins, then leaves… it should not have disbanded my party when they left. (or so I was told in game)
So there was some other issues going on there as well.

Just like to say I have changed my mind on Boss Blitz.

I was ultra critical of it during the 1st week but that was because the majority of players, ‘just didn’t get it’, now over a week later a lot of players have ‘learned it’ and are no longer zerging!

Its become very fun and rewarding to do, there seem to be plenty of overflows clocking up gold/silver rewards, so getting it done in 8 minutes or less (not including donating/countdown clocks).

So I take back the horrible stuff I said earlier and say WELL DONE DEVS & ANET.

Crown Pavillion have improved in such a way now that an organized map can have no commanders at all but dedicated players who’d announce the HP of each boss to keep things balanced. TS/Raidcall/Mumble are also not needed as long as we have 6 or less individuals calling out HP for each boss.

The slowest bits feel like it’s just people who aren’t donating when everyone should donate 10s minimum for it to really speed up. That’s not a thing that can be improved, we just have to hope there are less cheap/lecherous people on the map willing to donate. (10s really isn’t that much at all considering even a world boss fight you need to waypoint which cost 2-4s and all you’re getting is like one chest and a daily rare chest).

I can definitely say that when you get in a good map, with people who want to coordinate, it is a fun event..
But using the LFG to get into a gold BB party, and once you get a party… right clicking on the one party member who is in there, and choosing “Join in the Pavilion” for 45 MINUTES STRAIGHT until there is an opening in said map… well, that’s about as far away from fun as you can get.

And funny enough, the Pavilion map I was waiting in while trying to get in… only got the bronze ONCE the whole time I was trying.

Seems to me there needs to be a different way to join people who are of like mind in the same map, so we don’t wear out our middle finger right clicking to get in. (I can think of much better things to do with my middle finger) I don’t know what the answer should be… make events like this a raid instance, or add a que to get into a map (we had that with getting OUT of overflow maps before the megaserver, why not for getting INTO a map now?)
And more and better information all around… in what needs to be done, and displaying important information like the health of each boss no matter where you are… yeah, the game lacks the organization and communication tools that would make this 100 times better.

Do we absolutely need it..? no.. obviously people who actually give a rip will find a way to do it… but it sure is an uphill battle

After a week experiencing many kind of “organized” Blitz, I can say like all things done enough, you start seeing repetitions and often in a negative light.

I will now realistically say a map with TS/Raidcall/Mumble (which clearly indicates it’s a guild-sponsored event) is often the superior choice than a map with no commanders and mostly randoms organizing the event.

There is also now a LOT, LOT of leechers and afkers in organized maps and it had become way too prevalent. Even today I had a guildie say “leveling in Boss Blitz by tagging all the bosses is great” which just shows the mentality going around. Now people take organized map for granted with their uplevels, solo selfish efforts to get more experience/karma. With every repeated Gold Medal, there will be more of these leechers and afkers getting ferried into the map, which inevitably will make the map implode, essentially.

My love for the Blitz has gone down to something that is somewhat fun to do if I have nothing better to do, but now I don’t look for it unless I have no time for anything else.

i love the coordination it takes to successfully run golden boss blitzes. the commanders working together is top knotch because that is what it takes.
every morning i organize with one or 2 commanders till the whole map gets flooded and becomes a legit gold blitz run farm

and i too love to take care of boom since i like taking the “tougher” bosses when really its just learning the boss’s mechanics and 10 people should be the number cap on any boss.
