Questions about Sclerite Karka Shell

For those who do not know, the exotic version of the Sclerite Karka Shell (tentacle monster backpiece) can be purchased with 1600 Festival Tokens and 1 Laurel in the Crown Pavilion. I know that you can upgrade this backpiece in the Mystic Forge to make it ascended, but can you infuse it?

Try to place at the same time the shell and a gift of ascension. If the two items are compatible, you can hope to infuse it. If they are not compatible, keep the gift for an other back item.

However I doubt this is possible. (Never tested this in the first place).

That backpiece can’t be infused. So you get the ascended version and then no extra slot.
