So, I'm the leader of Destiny's Edge vol 2?
This is good, perhaps Anet figured out that we enjoy being the hero instead of playing second fiddle (Cough cough Treayhern Cough cough)
We had the pleasure of killing scarlet and now we’re considered in charge of our own adventuring group. Good Ju Ju imho

I hope they kill off this “leader” thing real quick. As a character I’ve done a lot more important things than act as the “leader” of the biconics.
I felt like this was more of a way of recognising the player character without being able to voice out thousands of names rather than truly putting us in a group with those five (wishful thinking perhaps).
I share your stance though Traveller, I’d rather adventure with Destiny’s Edge or some of the heroes from the Personal Story (or shock! My guild and friends!) before I spend more time with those five again.
A lot of mentions from the Biconics about venturing out to search for the roar they heard. With Laranthir recognising it as a possible dragon, it would be painful as a commander in the Pact to see the story ignore the player character’s status as higher ranking members of Tyria’s greatest authority on fighting dragons and instead anchor us with the Biconics again.

Really happy about this. In your face Trahearne.

I’d rather be a leader of a small adventurer guild than another Destined Legendary Chosen Hero of Destiny Who Will Save And Stuff And Zzzzzzzz™.
kitten if you do, kitten if you don’t eh? Well I don’t mind being called the leader of kittens Incorporated (atleast that’s what I would call the team), but the thing is, I don’t feel like I am really the leader of this band. What I meant is that leading up to this update, I don’t feel like I deserve to called leader, nor was the other LS characters dependent on me to lead them. During LS1 I felt more of a fellow, and that the group really had no leaders. I don’t even know if they needed a leader, or was that just a retroactive addition to the story to appease the teenage demographics of Guild Wars 2? Well there’s Marjory leading the investigation, and I helped with each of the group’s personal endeavors, but I don’t know, I felt like my advice wasn’t really needed or felt my choices weren’t as important to be relegated as their ‘leader’.
I’ve always been the leader!
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Oh god you remind me of that thread Zen, the one with the joke comics with Scarlet, Evon, and Ellen. XD
Though to tell a real life story, reminds me of how my friend became the leader of his anime club in high school. They were voting on the leader, and he stood up, and said nothing. They voted him as the leader because of that. Guess we’re a case of that.

I dunno. I kinda like the idea of being the leader of the Biconics. Hopefully this means the next Living Story is more about us, the players, rather than just being a follower for someone else.
Bah. Not a fan of this at all. In an MMO especially, I don’t want to have relatively undeserved (IMO) accolades heaped on me that are being heaped on every player in the game at the same time.
But oh well. I know tons of people have been clamoring for feeling like “the hero” and enjoy that sort of thing, so I guess I’ll just have to go along pretending its not happening and let the people who wanted it enjoy it.
I like it
I like not being pushed aside for a change.
I want to be acknowledged by the B-iconics as the Commander of the Pact. It’d be this cool moment like “Yeah, I already killed an Elder Dragon, this is nothing new”.
I share your stance though Traveller, I’d rather adventure with Destiny’s Edge or some of the heroes from the Personal Story (or shock! My guild and friends!) before I spend more time with those five again.
Me too. I still don’t understand why they brought these characters in and made them so super-important when we had prominent NPCs in need of more fleshing out already, in Destiny’s Edge and other parts of the personal story.
With Laranthir recognising it as a possible dragon, it would be painful as a commander in the Pact to see the story ignore the player character’s status as higher ranking members of Tyria’s greatest authority on fighting dragons and instead anchor us with the Biconics again.
Ugh, very good point. The Pact has totally fallen off the face of the planet in the LS, partly because of the nonsensical waffling about whether or not the LS takes place after Zhaitan or not — but to keep ignoring it now would be really bad and further feel like the personal story is actively being invalidated.
I think the major problem that rubbed me the wrong way with that instance, was Ellen Kiel drab line delivery. Ellen Kiel sounded like she reading off a script (it felt both forced and unnatural). Furthermore it actually sounded so bizarre that I actually thought they changed her voice actress.

I feel like the first part of using the original characters a huge restriction because of their choice of voice actors. They went with known voice actors, which become restrictive and costly to bring back.
And I think the problem with the Personal Story continuity is just new player introductions. It was already a problem doing all the LA stuff in a destroyed LA, in which them being there during the invasion makes absolutely barely any sense. It should be happening after your PS, but if events of your PS get referenced then those who haven’t gotten there will be lost even more.
Yes, it was very noticeable change in tone when Ellen Kiel spoke to Master of Peace. She even pointed at me before she spoke to the rest of “Destiny’s Child”
Nice to be acknowledged as leader seeing as my character is the one who’s always done the major part of the work.

I like how Ellen acknowledged my character as the “Leader” of DE 2.0 even though I rolled that character after the fall of Scarlet… :p

I feel exactly the opposite. I disliked that part, so far I figured I was just a friend of them who happened to tag along.
I mean, there’s 2 million “heroes” now? That makes no sense. 2 million leaders? No sense.
I find it much more believably if I’m supposedly just one normal adventurer who happens to kill someone bad.
I do hope we get to name our group somewhere along the line.
I have to say the leader thing felt a bit like, Ow really since when and why didn’t I get informed about that earlier. Normally I would not like that, however if this means for the 2nd dragon we not going the be a kind of minion of Treayhern, I will happily forgive them this strange looking step in the story. Make me feel a hero please instead of an errand-boy (and if there are characters that do have to die I would like to point at Treayhern as a good option) If you did not do not want to have order of wispers story spoiled don’t read the spoiler. I still did not forgive you about tybalt. He was one of the very few charr's I did like.
Chinese players right now are a little confused I bet
Piken Square
It feels unnatural somehow.
I do not see myself as the leader of these guys
I do not even like them that much, because after i have thought about them, they jsut felt shoehorned into the greater plot.
While they are great characters on their own i am starting to get over them.
Now that I am supposed to be the leader of them i do not feel like it.
I was never asked. There should have been some talk about that. Exposition or something…
Yeah, it feels a bit iffy, however that is because the whole stuff beforehand felt weird in retrospect.
I think it’s pretty cool. I couldn’t care less about being 2nd in command of the pact or Traeherene, and the biconics are way more interesting and have more engaging personalities than Destiny’s Edge. This is exactly the kind of thing that people have been asking for.
Also, I can see why we might be made the leader, we’re the only character that knows everyone from before the Nightmare Tower (except Taimi).
It would be neat to link it all together with the team voting for us to be leader BECAUSE of our experience in the Pact.
As for the 2 million hero thing, how is that any different than 2 million people being fellows of the group? There isn’t any. You’re just picking nits. No one else is the leader of the biconics. Not in the context of the story. And since you can’t see someone else’s personal story I fail to see how that ever comes up. You’re just over thinking it out of some archaic notion that you should just be a farmer or soldier in an MMO.
Great, does this mean I can fire all the characters I do not like?
You are out of here Kas, Jory, Rox, Braham, Taimi!

I would keep Taimi, but definitely kick the rest out and bring in Zombie Tybalt and Canach.

While cute, i would only keep her for her golem.
As long as she does not get any further character developement she is not high on my list.
Btw. we should add the “sea-skritts” to the group as potential members for our seaside endevours.
I’m just surprised that they all apparently accepted the role without question. I was expecting any of them to speak up, “Oh he’s not our leader, just a friend.”
I don’t recall anyone asking me if I wanted to be their leader, nor any of them really asking me for directions. I don’t recall being swarn in, or anything of the sort. Do I even get paid? I always assumed Jory was the leader, since she’s the only one who actually has a job and an office.

I like being acknowledged and given credit. Past living story was missing that but I like the current treatment of my character and their role in the events.

Even that would be silly IMO. There’s absolutely no base for “friendship” with these characters because there has been way too little interaction with them. The living story is all about the NPCs talking and emo(t)ing at each other while occasionally barking orders like “FETCH! KILL! SEARCH!” at their mute attack drone i.e. the player. They don’t know anything about my character. They don’t care about my character. My character does not exist as a character in the living story, and she will never exist while all the story- and character-defining moments exclude her by default because they are voiced and she is not.
I usually care more about story and lore in games than about anything else, but the living story annoys me to no end and I’ve just stopped giving a toss about anything or anyone. It is just that badly written. If I wanted to watch a movie, I’d watch a movie. When playing a game, I want to be involved, not actively excluded.

I’ve actually gotten a made-up timeline for that.
You know when the Molten Alliance was going on? The events of Claw Island happened during that. Tequatl? The push into Orr. When Scarlet died? Zhaitan died around that point too.
I wish it was true, because then the Pact could come back into the picture due to Zhaitan now being dead, and we can move forward while keeping old characters, not keeping them out of the picture.

The “leader” thing weirded me out. Come to think of it, I don’t really know what I am to the group based on what we did together. I felt like we (as in the entire group) were rarely all together, and when we were, Jory more often than not was the one calling the shots, asking me for an opinion or whatnot every now and then so as to not make me feel left out. If DE 2.0 had a formal organization, even if only based on function, I’d have assumed it was something like this:
Jory: leader
Kas: 2nd in command
Rox: scout
Braham: support
Taimi: engineer (literally, apparently)
PC: guy that shows up every now and then.
I don’t see why I am suddenly the leader of this group.
How am I the leader? I don’t remember ever being elected or pushed into a leadership position of this group of misfits. When were we a guild or a group that requires a leader figure? As far as I know, Rox and Braham were simply buddies that first met and fought together during the Molten Alliance and they met Majory and Kasmeer during the Tower of Nightmares, who were the investigating on their own. Taimi kinda popped up out of nowhere during the Marionette and immediately attached herself to Braham. There’s been no mention of any sort of organized group ever forming unlike Destiny’s Edge. If anything it’s been an informal gathering of friends that happen to work really well together.
I barely know these characters and I’ve pretty much been playing every step of the living story. Like achensherd said, I’m more like the guy who pops in every now and then than their fearless leader as Captain Kiel claims.
As Commander of the Pact, assuming that the Personal Story is still being treated as canon, don’t we have better things to do than lead a small adventuring company? From my understanding, the Personal Story takes place before the Living Story, so the Pact (and by extension us) should be doing more than standing around Lion’s Arch with a single airship, or fighting the Claw of Jormag for the 1,091,153rd time.
Actually the characters did talk about forming a guild at the end of season 1. It centered around the conversations where Rox was going back to the Stone Warband and Braham said they’d form the guild without her.
And the Pact seems to be making a return. In the Lion’s Arch aftermath patch there was a Pact airship hovering over Lion’s Arch as noted above. That’s an obvious prelude to their reintroduction to the story.
Though I personally hope that Mordremoth hits the Pact hard and it splinters. The three Orders were more interesting on their own.

I really thought us being “a friend” made a ton of sense.
This also fits with that, as we grow closer, Kas and Jory talking about their relationship with us and holding hands instead of (as before) being strictly professional. And with every talking more and more about personal issues.
But leader? Please not.
Honestly IMO, leave it at this one “blunder”, and keep us as a friend to the group. Make Marjory the leader, she fits the role well.
It was a missed opportunity for more story. They could have patched in a convo with the gang about who would be their guild leader, then have you talk to everyone individually and have THEM give you reasons why YOU should be the leader. Brox and Broham could bring up ice and frost patch along with recent events, and the rest can bring up other patch events and so forth and how you handled it well. Then once you accept the role you actually join a Guild on your Guild Tab called “Destiny’s Edge 2”. That’s off the top of my head.
Sure there could be issues with some not even being here when those patches came about, but its no worse than being elected a guild leader randomly. :P
I dont get why they made such a big fuss about Destiny’s Edge 1.0 from the launch of the game. They even wrote a frickin book about it. Why build up the original group only to throw them aside and make a 2.0 group?
