Hi, everyone. I am curious as to why there are no underwater versions (trident and spear) of the Sovereign weapon skin. I already bought the Sovereign Pillar (staff) for my Elementalist and I wanted the matching trident version for water combat.

Was it an unintentional oversight that the underwater versions weren’t made available (and thus can be fixed in a patch before the Bazaar ends) or was it purposeful?

Thank You

There are no underwater Sovereign weapons. They simply don’t exist. In fact, most event weapon sets don’t include underwater weapons (think they only ones that do are the Dreamthistle set and the Aetherblade set).

Anet doesn’t seem to prioritize underwater stuff much. Nor do the players for that matter. So it gets neglected most of the time new stuff is added.

Underwater combat was removed from PvP completely.

I think it’s safe to say that ANet wont look to develop underwater combat further.

Yeah underwater combat needs a complete overhaul and A.Net doesnt seem to have the ressources for that.

Anet is slowly removing water combat from the game. I suspect it will be patched out completely at some point.

It has already been 100% removed from sPvP and 90% removed from WvW.

The only place it still exists is PvE, and they will probably be slowly removing it with the introduction of the living world content.

I genuinely hope that isn’t true, although it really does indicate the case. UW exploration is top notch in this game and although combat isn’t where it should be, annexing it isn’t the solution to this.

The only other thing I can think is that artwork for models is time consuming, so the least used weapons (UW) are cut out to speed up development time.

They surely will try to add as little UW combat as possible, but removing what already exists in PvE will take too much effort for them. They won’t be removing what exists anytime soon from PvE.

I can understand the move though, the UW combat is hard to learn and to teach, balance is kinda wonky here (engi and ele are insanely strong, guard are a living joke…) and the readability of combat is non existent (where the hell is the risen megalodon hitbox ?).

Don’t get me wrong, UW combat is a mile away from any other mmo combat, but it’s still not up to par with land based combat and improving it would take colossal effort that could be better spent elsewhere.

As an advocate of underwater gameplay, I, too, hope that they add more underwater content, rather than taking more away. I think it has enormous potential and I hope to eventually see zones which are entirely underwater, explorable and towns alike. Quaggan Utopia, anyone?

To OP: I noticed the same thing a while back. Was never really sure why some weapon sets (tormented, for example) have underwater weapons but others don’t.
