Agony changes
To be honest why bother to infuse a backpiece? An infused backpiece getting a free +5 AR infusion is ONLY JUST after spending 250 ectos to upgrade it. Those none infused will be getting a FREE AR slot and slip in a +5 AR bought from NPC. Those like me who spent 250 ectos for that additional +5 AR gets ripped off. 250 ectos is definitely not equal to 75 relics for that +5.
Non-infused ones won’t be getting a free new slot and will be restricted to only the basic slot that takes a +5 resistance infusion.
If you have to merge +1’s with a material that costs coin, this means that +1 can’t be used to increase the AR in an item directly, otherwise people would just keep using +1’s.
So how does it increase? Will players have to choose between keeping the +1’s building up and deciding when to replace the AR upgrade, or will they be able to increase what’s already in the item?
- Can you craft something t increase what’s already there, like using +1s to craft an upgrade that increases the the current AR in the item instead replacing it?
- Do you have to make a new one and completely replace what’s already there each time you want to increase it?
It’s like when one upgrades armor pieces. Buying new ones on each level is a waste, people usually improve every 5-10 levels or so, unless they got got better ones from drops. But unlike armor that drops all over the place and is cheap in th trading post, +1s won’t be as common.
If players can’t increase what’s already in the item, they will be forced to choose between using them as soon as they have built a better one, or keep saving 1’s before using them.
“Do I upgrade this 5 with a +6 right now, or do I keep it and improve it until I get a +10?” that’s and annoying hassle that adds a component of regret to it. Makes it feel like all you previously build up will be wasted. It’ll be better if there was a way to improve what’ already there.
So… how does it work?
Long story short:
>keep your +1 infusions and build up your AR without slotting it
>everybody will have to do higher fractals without agony resistance because it’s literally a waste to use the rare infusions that will drop
>lots of wipes and let me guess, Mei Trinn and the Molten boss will both have an agony attack like jade maw that can’t be avoided
Fractals are now impossible to do for newcomers and casual players who enjoyed them, good job Arenanet.
Brb leveling a guardian….

Why do people keep posting without reading any of the topics? Your AR will be the same as it was before the update and fractals are just as accessible to newcomers and casuals as it always was.
I just wish infused back pieces were a kitteneaper!
Sunrise doesn’t change. Only Infused Ascended Back Items and Rings are getting new slots.
So… I have my two rings that i spent a crap load of money to infuse and then a crap load more to place mighty infusions in them. They keep the mighty infusions, but lose their inherent +5 AR from the infusion and by default you socket both with default +5 agony resist infusions, that can be upgraded, so the gold spent on the infusion process isn’t lost to me?
Almost. You keep the +5 power +5 ar infusions in the old infusion slots. You get new AR-only slots. You will get +5 AR infusions in those new slots. You won’t be able to upgrade those infusions, though, because they will be already slotted. In order to place +6 or better infusions in those AR-only slots you will have to create new infusions from scratch.
But in general you are right – you lose nothing, and will be able to improve on it later on.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
judging by the panic and confusion on the forums, I’d say it’s a safe bet that this change is even more ill concieved than the initial implementation of ascended gear. I remember having to explain over and over again to guildies that they needed an additional upgrade for their gear to actually get agony resistance. I have no idea how I’m gonna explain THIS to them…

I would like to think it’s pretty self evident. You’re going to get an AR only upgrade item. If you have the slot it goes into you can put it there. The value is infinitely upgradable, but it is mind meltingly awful to actually do it past a certain point, and requires Artifice to do at all.
What else is needed.

Tell that to people that never did fractals and never had ascended gear before.
Imagine you know nothing of how to get agony resistance.
Now, in order to survive agony resistance, you have to:
-Get your personal fractal level to 10 or higher.
-You only get that by doing a fractal level equal to or higher than your personal level.
-Fractal level isn’t the same as character level.
-You can get the ring as a drop but you can also get pristine fractal relics to buy them at a vendor at 10 relics each.
-No, pristine fractal relics.
-You can then upgrade those rings to an infused version.
-Yours already has an infusion slot, true, but this is a new slot.
-To do so you need to gather vials, globs and shards of mists essence.
-You get them as random drops but you can also convert them to the other types in the Mystic Forge.
-You then upgrade the ring to an infused version.
-You also get agony resist drops that were worthless up and until then, but now can be combined by artificers only, starting at level 100.
-By combining 2 of the same level you can get an upgraded version of the same resistance.
-Now put that in the special infusion slot, and you’re done!
Yes, not complicated at all!

Nothing else is needed. It is a very simple very straightforward change. I really don’t understand how anyone could be confused honestly.

I’m sorry but “you need ascended gear because it has slots that you can put AR in” isn’t complicated at all. You don’t even have to do fractals to get AR now to get it.
“Buy pink gear with laurels or guild commendations and stick AR in it” is about as simple as you can get.

NOW, try explaining how the backpiece works…. lol
Wait, a Beta fractal capacitor isn’t a fractal capacity isn’t a fractal capacitor (infused) or wait, which one do I put the 250 ectos into…okay, wait, there is ANOTHER level? what do you get for that? oh, it glows now? but it doesn’t have any more AR? Howcome I lost my infusions when I upgraded it….

So… how does it work?
I was waiting to hear an answer about this. I really dislike this whole idea that whatever work you do will be erased because you need to decide if you want to progress. If it cost about 2+g to get a +5 AR infusion to drop in the new slot, every time you over-write you’re just adding to the cost. So, yes won’t it be better to save indefinitely until they decide to unlock higher levels of fractals?
I just wish infused back pieces were a kitteneaper!
Dat censor, though.
It’s funny, because most of the time kitten happens, I have to stare at t for like 10 seconds before realizig what t actually was that was censored xD.

NOW, try explaining how the backpiece works…. lol
So true…that is eaxactly my point. The new system isn’t complicated, if you were used to the old system. If you look at the whole thing combined, it’s a big mess.
