Q:

Hey all. I specifically remember a dev saying that the dredge fractal was targeted to bring it more in-line time-wise with the other Fractals. Does anyone have a link to that quote? I remember they were saying they were going to make fixes to the Fractals and the Dredge one was specifically mentioned as going to be fixed. I know that the other stuff in that fractal has been talked about a ton, but what happened that they decided not to fix the time sink of it, but also made it a little longer by removing corpses from the floor plates?

If any dev would like to comment I would greatly appreciate it because this is an example of another communication problem. You guys say you are going to do one thing and then do another. This wasn’t something that wasn’t seen as an issue either. You guys specifically targeted the Dredge Fractal as being too long and then ignored it.

I feel like we should have had a warning about this prior to the update going live. I think for communication to get better it starts with stuff like this on your end. A simple, “Hey guys, we looked at the Dredge Fractal and decided we like where it’s at and moreover, we decided that we are going to make corpses leave the floor plates in the first puzzle to give it a little more challenge.”

It’s not fun going into a Fractal that you think is going to be shorter and then finding out not only did you guys not fix it, but you didn’t mention that you weren’t going to fix it. This saves people like me from frustration and then venting about it on the forums.

Anyways, if anyone has that link I would appreciate it.

IE, another ANET lie. Instead of shortening the fractal they made it longer. Currently Underground fractal is way out of balance.

Seeing as how they ADDED mobs to it, I’d like to think that even if that was the plan, they didn’t accomplish it.

Instead of fixing the enormous fractal length (dat clown car) and tediousness they

  • made pressure plates boot dead players from them
  • removed the pipes in the clown car room
  • removed the plank from behind the console, making it impossible to resurrect players from that side
  • added more dredge

yah and on lvl 33…its nearly impossible. it was a joke. i dont understand the length either. why does it not end after radmovich or whatever his name is? if you get this fractal after two fast first fractals its almost faster to just start over.

This one needs to go, or be completely overhauled. Now that the fun temporary content is back in the game, can we have the not fun permanent content out ?
I’ve never heard anyone saying anything nice about this one.

I’d love to see a dev. livestream doing it a 30+. That would be fun.

Given the problems that the Reactor instance went live with, I’m not sure they play fractals. Not without cheats, at least. I mean, if they did, surely ONE of them would have ran into the problems with it and said something, right? Or are all the devs banned from their own beta server?

I don’t agree with it being a lie, I just remember them saying they thought it was too long and that they were going to do something about it. I just want clear communication when things that are said don’t come to pass so it isn’t a shock when it doesn’t happen.

We’re currently looking at a few things regarding individual fractal difficulty and length. A couple of options are reducing the length of unnecessarily long fractals (dredge)

when they only change was to add more dredge including a veteran that has way more health than other vets in the panel room (what makes the fractal tale longer) you can put 2 and 2 together.

they were always supposed to be there is what he’s saying. and their spawns were bugged so it was a more cleared out room. but yes…fixing that was indeed backwards in what we need for this fractal. wouldnt be so bad with those lovely lovely spy kits that they also “fixed”

You had level 80 and you’ve never seen those spawns? Were you resigning on the first sight of underground facility fractal?

Perhaps you should read what the dev stated more closely. Looking into doing something and saying you’ll do it are two separate things. Nowhere did the dev specifically say that it would be included in the recent update.

We’re currently looking at a few things regarding individual fractal difficulty and length. A couple of options are reducing the length of unnecessarily long fractals (dredge) and modifying the possible sequence of randomly selected fractals so you don’t get the longest and most difficult ones all on the same run.

It was not specifically stated that the dredge fractal would be shortened in this update. They only stated they were looking into it and gave a couple options do reduce the length of fractals. Notice the second option?
