First things first, are the armors released meant to be a homage to the release of Catching Fire?

On another this is an idea that came to me whilst seeing the reaction to the latest gem store armors.

Why not hold Design-an-Armor for players much like what you did in the first game.

It must show:
-Male & Female
-Charr/Human/Asura (Sylvari and Norn will use human models..)
-State whether it is Light/Medium/Heavy

Winner would get:
-Their armor free for there character(s) in GW2
-Armor would appear in the GemStore for other players
-In game reward? Gems/Legendary Crafting/Precursor

I think ArenaNet need to reach out to the players for their ideas and realise they have so many brilliant minds to use!

I like this idea, though I’m not artistic enough to participate. I’d love to see other players creativity!

Great idea, I hope they have plans for design contests. GW1 had some and really great weapons were born and implemented by them so I support it.

I’m not an artist either but I have seen great concepts from players, I’d like to think they would have awesome ideas.

Design-a-weapon contests from GW1 made the greatest shield I have EVER seen in a game…the Draconic Aegis.

If Arena Net implemented re-imagined versions of some of the old armour and weapons it truly would make my day. I probably would not even mind buying some of them from the store.

The store armour sets have been fairly ugly lately a design an armour contest would not be a bad idea.

I think another reason they should do it would be because most the competitions they run always offer a prize of a free game rather than anything benficial to the current player base.

Agreed. It has been repeatedly suggested for some time. I’d love to see some community designed armor. Beats the “jpop music video” constest we had a couple of weeks back, IMO.

Hmm I don’t think there is any need to go back to the old armors, I think it would be better to look forward on possibilities rather than look back and what was already a good idea. I hadn’t realised it’d been suggested before, i guess great minds think alike :p.

Well yeah the issue with the music video was only english speaking people could join, with this all you need is art and a title.

The problem with this idea is that we’d end up with some of the coolest items in the game being released through the gemstore. I have no doubt in my mind that players could come up with much cooler weapons than anything around now.

Maybe the number one winner in player votes could be added through some special means of acquisition, like a fancy crafting recipe? I’ve always had more connection with weapons I crafted since there’s a progression to getting them rather than buying them all at once. But maybe that’s just me.

Of course, if Anet does end up doing something like this, it will probably end up in the stupid RNG chests…

Honestly I’m sick of every new skin being released through the gem store. The idea is decent but I wouldn’t want a fancy skin like that being able to be purchased for 800 gems. They need to be releasing these skins through actual content but until people stop buying them, they’ll never do this. It’s just not going to happen.

I agree with you both that any designed weapons that would be added to the game, I hope would not be in the Gem Store.

Can you say the same about player designed armor? People didn’t like this armor so they recalled it, if the players had an option to see what THEY want in the game, would it have been a different story?

Although.. we had a choice between Kiel and Evon and look how that ended up… cough Scarlet again

Because people would make kitten shaped armors…. it’s a bad idea….
