…is totally not cool. I expected that I will simply be able to take the +1 infusion then upgrade it to any of my rings, and when I get a new one, I will be able to upgrade it to any of my rings.

So basicaly, I expected if I have a Infused ring, and I add 1, I have +11 AR alltogether, then I add +1 and I have +12, then +13, then +14 and so on and so forth. From what I read, the normal 5 wouldn’t change, but the lower +5, would go to +6 then +7 then +8 and so on and so forth.

This patch is really not cool.

That would be way to easy and completely pointless considering 45 AR is all you need to get through lvl 50 fractal and the +1’s drop like flies.

It would be better if we could pull infusions out and use them to upgrade to the next one. As it is, let’s say you get a +10 (currently 450g on BLTC, though that will surely go down quickly) and put it in a ring. Sorry, can’t use that as part of your 11 upgrade, it’s just wasted and you have to trash/replace it later. Which just encourages NEVER actually using these things, but hoarding them in your bank endlessly. Very annoying.

I agree with this. The current implementation is good IMO with the diminishing returns, but they need to give us the option to remove infusions, otherwise it’s just too tedious to upgrade once you use an infusion.

That being said though, there’s a new item that’s been datamined that will remove upgrades from items without destroying either the upgrade or the item. It’ll probably be a gem store purchase, but if it’ll remove infusions I’d take that over spending hundreds of gold on the TP.

If that item is permanent, I will buy it IMMEDIATELY. If it’s a consumable that’s destroyed on use though, probably not.

Both of these ideas would half the cost of an upgrade.

For an exponentially growing cost function, that’s quite a difference. Would be a huge nerf.

Honestly, I’m of the opinion that AR should have been account bound anyway. The whole idea of being able to sell it on the TP is kind of silly IMO.

Yeah but with how much negative backlash the devs get every time something isn’t sellable, I can understand they didn’t want to do that in this case.

In my opinion, in a game advertised and sold as a horizontal progression game having gear checks is pretty kittened and completely defeats the original purpose of what they said. This gear check crap needs to go or it will get out of hand like these horrible story tellers they have now.

From how it looks, Fractal AR progression is the proper way to add some vertical progression to the game for the (granted pretty large) group who was crying for it.

The issue is Ascended items having superior stats. That adds it to the rest of the game. Having vertical progression in a single, contained and specialized place, that’s actually pretty cool.

For those curious how many 1-infusions you need, to make an n-infusion:

FORMAT: <i> not reusable – reusable
<1> 1 – 1
<2> 3 – 2
<3> 7 – 4
<4> 15 – 8
<5> 31 – 16
<6> 63 – 32
<7> 127 – 64
<8> 255 – 128
<9> 511 – 256
<10> 1023 – 512
<11> 2047 – 1024
<12> 4095 – 2048
<13> 8191 – 4096
<14> 16383 – 8192
<15> 32767 – 16384
<16> 65535 – 32768
<17> 131071 – 65536
<18> 262143 – 131072
<19> 524287 – 262144
<20> 1048575 – 524288

The “not reusable” column is relevant, if you also want to make one infusion of every lower tier and if you cannot upgrade used infusions. The “reusable” column is relevant, if you want to skip all lower tiers until you get to the desired one or if it should ever be possible to upgrade used infusions. The ratio is just the value in the left column divided by the value in the right column.
These two strategies are the two extremes, so you should probably fall somewhere between them. Anyway, even if you create one infusion of every tier, you only need about twice as many 1-infusions.

How do you get 10 for 3AR with no reuse?

I see it as:

  • First pass, I take a 1 AR infusion, slot it.
  • Second pass, I cannot re-use my 1AR on the item, so I get two new 1 AR infusions, and merge them for a 2 AR infusion. I now used 3 total.
  • Third pass, I cannot re-use my 2AR on the item, so I get four 1 AR infusions, merge-merge them for a 3 AR infusion. I now used 7 total.

Yeah, I see the formula more like (2^n)-1 rather than whatever formula you used, Ignavia. I haven’t completely checked the maths, but Carighan seems really on the right track.

Oh good point, it’s (2^n)-1 for no-reuse, and 2^(n-1) for reuse.

Ouch, my bad. Thanks for the correction, I edited my original post.
