We are a well established gaming community that takes pride in drama free, competitive gaming. Our primary focus is on PvP, with a secondary focus on RP. Our guild chat is OOC, and spatial chat is IC. RP is optional, but all members must act in a respectful manner towards RP.

We run events on a near nightly basis, and while we push to be the best we can, we keep it ego free. There is a strict no drama policy, and we take pride in a mature respectful gaming style (we do not tolerate griefing or exploits of any kind). We intend to be extremely active in WvW, while relying on our past experience in various MMOs to be successful.

We are also a proud member of the Alliance War Council (AWC), a coalition of guilds on the Tarnished Coast server with a focus on WvW.

We tend to be involved in WvW on a nightly basis. Just last night we fielded three guild groups (we are currently saving up for our commander book), and had a lot of success… Including taking a tower (guild members only), claiming it, and then defending it against both Ehmry Bay and Maguuma’s zergs, while trebbing Ehmry Bay’s garrison wall.

We use Mumble for VoIP, and promise a lot of fun :P We consider ourselves competitive when it comes to PvP… we keep Mumble clear while calling targets, and we expect our members to follow orders and stay together as a group (don’t chase!). On the other hand, you will laugh, a lot. We definitely know how to have a good time.

As noted in the above post, we’re an ego-free community. We do not tolerate drama of any kind. We’re looking to have fun while pushing to be the best at what we do.

We also have community members active in many other games, including a guild in WoW (Dragonmaw Vanguard on Emerald Dream).

Some of our RP Intro:

Magnus let the axe sink deeply into the man’s leg, relieving the human of his pain with a following shot to the temple. Quickly glancing around, he could see this had been the last of the thieves and pirates aboard the ship; scum that had robbed his city’s merchants, its people that he now protected. Scum he could relate well to in his past. Of course, like many things in Tyria, Magnus had changed, and was no longer the Norn he had once been.

Mostly of course.

Thick sea air was now carrying the stench of battle, the noise of lapping waves replacing the cries of killing. Magnus grinned to himself as he removed the heavy weapon from his victim’s thigh. Once a pirate, always a pirate; even if one was a justified pirate.

Adjusting his pistols across his chest, Magnus took in the full scene around him. He stood tall on the Human vessel, his crew scavenging the dead lawbreakers for any loot and knowledge they might offer. The ship’s name was The Righteous Prince, though in the hands of such rabble it had very little princely air to it. More and more, Magnus found himself dealing with criminals such as these, both at sea and land. The world was in upheaval, and many had turned to thievery and piracy for survival. Of course, Magnus’s empathy did not mean such creatures were forgiven. For Lion’s Arch, he would not hesitate to kill anyone; and by the power of Lion’s Arch, he was authorized to do so.

“Captain Magnus we-” One of his crewman started as he approached the Norn, his Lionguard tabard fluttering in the wind.

“-The Bloody Handed, don’t forget that part now, I have to keep people afraid of me somehow!” Magnus laughed roughly, reaching down to pull another blade from an Asura’s back. The soldier looked taken aback by the Captian’s harsh laughter, and Magus remembered it often took time for the new ones to understand their leader. Fierce by nature; both in battle and jest. “What did you have to say, hm?”

More warily this time, the soldier responded, “We have found a few documents at least hinting at some sort of thief guild or pact. Seems we can expect more attempts, maybe bigger as I’d wager this was just a small group of desperates, Cap’n.”

“Good work then. By the Bear, let’s hope it’s a few dawns before we have to deal any more justice out! It’s in short supply, even to our own merchants in the Arch!” The Captain said, letting out another guffaw, “Dismissed, let’s catch this breeze back to the City then.”

The soldier saluted and began rallying the rest of the crew back to their own vessel; the Cormorant, his prize for sending Morgus Lethe, former champion of the dragon Zhaitan, to oblivion. Of course, he had been helped by Destiny’s Edge, but there was no counting on them any longer. As Magnus thought, he returned to his own ship’s helm, giving idle orders to set off.

Now, as grand as it was to battle off Lion’s Arch’s enemies, this day and age was undeniably a dark one, and even the Ship’s Council of the City of which Magnus was a member, had succumbed to more bickering than usual. The Lionguard, Magnus’s defensive law keeping force, was not enough. These were soldiers, some very good, but many just surviving like their adversaries. Indeed, Lion’s Arch needed a force, a power that represented all the the City could be; the prestige and the prowess of its best. A force worthy of fear and awe. Magnus pulled lazily on his beard as he guided the Cormorant through the waves reflecting the hot afternoon sun, and a glimmering idea began to form in his mind.

By the time Lion’s Arch began to rise on the evening horizon, Magnus was grinning so widely his first mate had quietly asked for a crew mate to bring some fresh water, fearing the Norn had taken in too much sun. Magnus squinted keenly up at the ever rising towers of Lion’s Arch, constructed from battle-broken and glory-ridden ships alike.

The Lionguard was the shield of this city, but it required constant attention in its own right to keep Lion’s Arch from tearing itself apart, to keep Lion’s Arch a haven in a dangerous age.

Yet, a good shield also needs a sword, Magnus thought, grinning at his own rare poeticism. Better than just a guard; a Vanguard. Independent and beholden only to themselves as a Lion would be, a force Magnus could trust to extend the reach of this City throughout Tyria, to strike first, and let virtue be a luxury. A blade worthy of a Lion.

The dark shadows of old Lion’s Arch passed beneath the ship’s wake, the twin pair of sunken lion statues could just be made out through the choppy waves. Magnus gave pause to his thoughts as he peered back at their sullen watching stair. Eyes that had learned the hard way of their weakness, and witnessed the wrath of Tyria’s greatest threat.

Lions, even those of stone, had fallen to the bloody storm that sunk the city a hundred years past. Pride had meant nothing to an Elder Dragon.

Pride would still mean nothing.

“Blood for blood is all there is left in this world perhaps” Magnus said ruefully, “I don’t need shiny heroes prancing about, the Six Gods know we have enough of those by the Vigil. I need power and guile, a force of vengeance that might turn the bloody coast as red as its name. Let the Lion be proud and just in the city, but to our foes there can only be cold steal and storms; sentiment wins nothing in this age.”

Almost as an answer, a gale of wind rushed at the salt-bathed Norn, sending up a spray of ocean water, tinted red by the lowering sun.

“Blood and Thunder will be this Vanguard’s deliverance,” Magnus growled, “and it cannot be bound to the Lion sigil, lest it should undermine my own name and justice in Lion’s Arch. Blood and Thunder to match the bloody gales that took this city.”

The Captain’s eyes flashed as his mind found the namesake it sought, for this time the Bloodgale would be theirs, to change the tide of history. The Cormorant pulled keenly into port.

It’s odd to hear a guild report to be “fun”, “ego-free”, with “medium RP”, while still proving to be competitive in PvP. But it’s the truth. I’ve been running around with Vanguard Gaming for years, and I’ve always been impressed with the amount of proficiency they bring to the table in any PvP setting.

Last night we fielded between 15 and 20 guild members in WvW, along with additional people from the top notch guilds within the AWC (our server’s WvW alliance). We made an impact wherever we were on the Dragonbrand borderland… from being the primary force actively defending our southern points, to claiming towers and laying siege to the garrison.

Overall, it was an excellent night. The majority of our members have been pvping together for going on two years, which has created an excellent core of talented PvPers who know how to operate as a unit.

We are looking to continue expanding our ranks, and while our primary focus has been WvW lately, we also hold weekly optional RP events, PvE events, and sPvP events (literally, something for everyone). Every single week night we have scheduled events. The weekend nights are open, although we are usually grouping for more WvW.

We’ve had some intense WvW action the past few nights. Last night, we held down the CD BL despite being outnumbered by both other servers. We kept control of the entire east side of the map for the majority of the night.

The best part had to be our assault on CD held Garrison. It appeared CD had picked up their orb to get it reset. So while the 15 minute countdown began, we quickly organized and assaulted the water gate at Garrison. We busted through into the inner keep, and while the siege golems tanked the keep lord, our force sprinted to the top of the Garrison near the vista to find the orb carrier. With less than a minute left on the reset timer, a well placed Tornado by Chaella cleared the defenders around the orb carrier, and we grabbed the orb (props to Molly for grabbing it!). This was followed by a mad dash for our SH Keep.

Super intense, and a lot of fun. Props to the members from the AWC who rallied with us, and to the CD BL crew who did an amazing job the entire night.

It may shock and surprise you to learn that Commander Fel is not only a brilliant tactician but also devastatingly handsome. Truly a wonder to behold on the battlefield and off.

And I guess these other guys are alright too.

Server resets are tomorrow and Fel just posted an epic pep talk on our forums.

I’ve been a member of Vanguard Gaming for about two years. Couldn’t ask for a better bunch of people to game with. I’ve seen some epic battles and engaging stories with this crew.

We also have outstanding leadership. The officers are proactive and also encourage members to create and host events.

We’re planning a major offensive tonight after the server match reset. Tarnished Coast is once again projected to move up in the rankings. Our WvW group has been growing, and we have proven to be a major force out there.

Epic people to be found here. It’s really hard to even talk about Vanguard Gaming in a context that doesn’t sound like close family and friends lol, kinda ridiculous. RP is very very open, and we have three admins currently working to make it epic and exciting for all who want it. The guild is also an incredibly accepting and friendly group, and successful! We contribute a lot to Tarnished Coast WvW efforts (see Fel’s posts), and have Admins who are knowledgeable and totally accessible in all parts of the game. You can be as hardcore or laid back as you want, this is a guild of friends Iv’e been here for like.. a long time lol, and the guild has been stable throughout. Whether it be sPvP, WvW, RP (yay RP!!) or PvE, you’ll find it here, and you’ll find a great community.

Your guild sounds pretty awesome but I have a question… I play wow in addition to gw2 and it takes up more of my time as I am a casual (two-three nights a week) raider. I likely wouldn’t be able to make a lot of the guild nightly events because of raid times. Would I still be welcome as a casual/social member otherwise? I mainly want a place to have some friends while I level, explore, and a little rp.

I do a lot of gathering and bouncing around low level zones, so I’m happy to donate supplies and help others with leveling.

Guild events aren’t mandatory. You don’t get booted from the guild because you can’t or choose not to make events. Although once you do some WvW with us you’ll realize there is no reason for WoW anymore :P I kid, play what you like…..but seriously GW2 > WoW

We also just celebrated our 2 year anniversary!!!! A very stable group of good people. It’s ridiculous to consider joining Vanguard Gaming as there is nothing to consider. Just do it everyone you won’t be disappointed

Seriously, lots of quality folk are joining the Vanguard, what are YOU waiting for?

Yes, we really have had a great crew of new recruits join over the past week or two.

Our nightly events (WvW, sPvP, RP, PVE) are always filled up, and result in a lot of fun both in guildchat and on our Mumble server.

WvW continues to be top notch… We have an excellent system, where our guild forms up to take strategic points and provide intel, while I lead the server zerg on the map. It results in many epic flanks, and coordinated movements to defend our server’s territory, or wreck havok upon our enemies.

Our community is also active in several other games, with an active guild on Emerald Dream in WoW. We have been around for years gaming together, and are looking to continue expanding our ranks with top notch players who are focused on being competitive, while keeping things in perspective and most importantly? Having fun.

We keep things respectful, we fight with honor, and we have a fierce loyalty to this guild we call home.

I’ve been with the Vanguard for two years now, and I don’t think I could call any other place home. This is the first guild home I’ve had in five years of MMO experience that not only talks big about balancing high performance with casual attitude, but actually delivers consistently. We provide opportunities for excellent teamwork and PVP accomplishment on the one hand and meaningful, experienced RP on the other, and we combine them as often as we can.

Don’t RP but love the idea of organized PVP? Don’t want to put up with the immaturity, attitude and nerdrage of a pure PVP guild? You can still find highly competitive and competent players with the will and the skill to dominate the playing field while enjoying the more mature and respectful community that RPPVPers enjoy. We have a Commander’s Book, dedicated group leaders and target callers, and work closely to coordinate with other AWC guilds to ensure Tarnished Coast is putting up the best fight possible. And many of our members have found themselves converts to RP after being exposed to it by our relaxed and supportive RP community.

Love PVP, but only when you can get good RP with it? With three officers dedicated to it, we encourage our members to pursue their own ends and plotlines within the guild and assist them however we can, in addition to casual events and ongoing guild plotlines. Never RP’d before? Not a problem. We’ll help you every step of the way. And with our no-OOC-drama policy, you’ll find that we’re comfortable with helping each other move away from Mary Sues and mature enough not to carry our IC into OOC.

Keep an eye out for us in WvW on Monday and Friday nights, and be sure to stop by at our Halloween party! October 30th at 8PM EST, on the ship decks behind Commodore’s Manor in LA.

With that said, you should probably also know that we are all completely insane nerds, and once you join the borg collective you will never leave.

So it has been 2 years this guild has been around and I have been lucky to have been a part of it for almost that time. Basically in 7 years of online gaming the past 2 years I have not experienced anyone yell, get mad, argue, talk down to anyone all while having fun and being serious at the same time. I joined Vanguard Gaming in Feb of 2011, admittedly to run with 2 friends of mine who were already members.

In an ironic twist of fate, both friends quit the game not two weeks after I server transferred, leaving me on a strange server with a guild I barely new.

HOWEVER, by that point I was so hooked on the amazing mojo the guild had doing — no drama, respect, honor, camaraderie, and a sense of family — that I never even considered going elsewhere.

Fast forward to almost 2 years later, and the guild that I joined on a whim, a last desperate attempt to enjoy the game I was playing, has become my family.

I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else at this point! If you’re a mature player who’s looking for a good group, with like-minded individuals that understand the meaning of the phrase “competitive sportsmanship”, look no further.

Welcome home.

My origin story is a lot less entertaining than Mish’s, but here it goes.

I saw a Vanguard recruitment post on the Emerald Dream board of the WoW forums. Everything about it spoke to me: the camaraderie, the maturity, the ZEST FOR SLAUGHTER. Here, I thought, are a bunch of folks who know how to have fun. AND I WAS RIGHT. Moments later my Warrior was transferred from my dead PvE server and thus began the most exciting time I have ever had in WoW. Period. We assaulted townships, we held inns against throngs of enemies, we drank their ale while they stewed in fury, and we were awesome at it. But we always, ALWAYS fought fair. I remember several nights that most of us sat on the sidelines if there was a smaller response than anticipated to our shenanigans, and once word spread of our code of honor our enemies started treating us in kind.

It’s a great feeling to smash your enemies in battle, but it’s an even better feeling to end a night of conquest with mutual respect and a /salute to the other team. That’s what the Vanguard is all about.

Fast forward to today and most of us are considerably less Orcish, but the core values we represent are as strong as ever. If you’re looking for a mature, drama-free place to hang out with a bunch of murder-happy pirate hooligans then we’d be honored to have you.

Bloodgale Vanguard is once again recruiting! As we soldier on to pillage a new year, we find our ranks losing a few brigands here and there to ‘extended shore leave,’ not to mention natural causes (if your definition of natural causes includes naturally occurring hurricanes and cannonballs to the head). But we persevere with our loyal crew as we wait for stories of our heroic exploits to bring in all manner of heroes, ne’er-do-wells, and a few Lion’s Arch parolees.

The loot is as good as it ever was, and like a good vintage, the companionship only improves over time. Mortality rates may vary. Join today!

While we still have a solid community here in Guild Wars, we’d like to expand our player base so we can put up an even better presence in WvW, add variety to our RP, and introduce new folks that are looking for a comfortable and mature setting of competent RPPVPers.
