I know people feel differently on this, some say for different times or situations. But regardless, let’s get this started. Why join a guild if you aren’t gonna represent? Many join, never turn on guild tag? I honestly dislike the option, but that’s just me.

Well they made the option because of the fact that you can join multiple guilds, but can only represent one at a time.

To be honest joining multiple guilds is a new concept to me, as I’ve never played a game where you could do that before. But it has also led to people having guilds for various aspects of the game…such as a guild for WvW, a guild for general PvE, a guild just for dungeons, etc. So they rep that guild when they are doing those activities. It’s an interesting idea.

I see. Guess I’m old fashioned, would prefer to get to know my guild members daily, know strength and weaknesses and be able to roll with that same group for everything. At the same time, built some kind of pride in our group and our guild. Thus, showing my one tag at all times. I see GW2 has really crossed the bridge with many new concepts, just not sure I’m willing to embrace them or just go back to my comfort zone.

Not at all . There are guilds that require from its member to represent them.

Many people do still prefer to have a single guild. Interesting idea or not I know that I will always belong to a single guild. But it is sort of a way to balance things, especially if you’re part of a guild you really love, but they just don’t do something that you need/want to do.

I don’t think the option to represent other guilds is an issue. The real problem imo is not being able to communicate to all of the guilds that you are a part of at the same time. There is no way to have multiple guild channels. The result is community segregation which is no fun. Hopefully this feature will be implemented soon because I feel it is killing the advantage of being able to join multiple guilds.

As a leader, I’m learning to be understanding of the concept of representing multiple guilds. I want my members to feel as though they can do that, if they so choose. But at the same time, we have very limited guild management tools. As a larger guild (400+ members), it can get hairy at times managing the roster. Actually, lets be completely honest here, I can’t manage my roster. I don’t know when the last time anyone logged on their account. I don’t know when the last time that account represented my guild.

Again, I want people to have the opportunity to be in another guild and we don’t make restrictions against that (unless we promote someone to officer). But I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some actual guild management tools hint hint

Yeah, I feel exactly the same as you do Vanity. I am managing a much smaller guild and the lack of tools is a real thorn in my side. I cannot imagine how challenging it must be for you and anyone else with a large guild like that.

There’s a very good reason why you might intentionally bring someone in knowing that they’re not going to represent you — if they’re an “ambassador” from another guild. They can see your message, so they’ll know when there are events or whatnot and if they need more people for something in their main guild, it’s very easy for them to switch over and ask in gchat for more people. They’re in the roster so it’s easy to keep track of them, and you can give them their own rank so they have no access to, say, the gbank.

Also, you don’t automatically represent a guild when you join it. Some people don’t realize after they’ve accepted the tag that they have that extra step of "represent"ing to get into gchat and whatnot. So if you’ve got a lot of people who you see online a lot but never are representing you, you might check if that’s what’s going on.
