I am one of MANY guild leaders in Guild Wars 2 and I am looking to see what other guilds have done to remedy the issue I am having or are experiencing the same thing me and my guild are experiencing.
The issue at hand is, we have a solid group of 10-15 active members, with a majority of them being on in the evenings and a few of them are on during lunch time. We are all friends/family/co-workers and are solid core group of gamers. That being said, we are now wanting to get more members to work towards legendaries, work on WvWvW together, do some PvE dungeons, and all around, just looking for more members. The issue is, finding new members… am I doing it wrong or are other guilds running into this same issue?
Here are some of the things we have tried to do:
*Registered on http://www.gw2guilds.org/
*Posted on /r/GuildRecruitment
*Replied to numerous in-game requests for guilds
*invited 1 or 2 non-guild members into guild dungeon runs

Is it that everyone playing that isn’t in a guild has a pipe dream image of big guilds? Or am I (we) doing something completely wrong? We have a site IT Gamers and mumble server. As I am sure most smaller guilds have Upgrade levels 2-3 on everything, and having banners and bonus’ going whenever influence is available. We are definitely up for mergers, however, I don’t think we are willing to move servers. It was like herding cats to get all of the guild on Tarnished Coast as it is, it will be near impossible to get them all to move again. If any guild on Tarnished Coast is interested in merging with us on Tarnished Coast, please send me a PM. All mergers would be discussed, officers would obviously move into the same roles, etc. etc. main thing we have to make sure is that we have the same “mission statement” goals.

Side note, in game conversations have lead me to believe this isn’t possible with one guild giving up everything. Though my vision would be form a completely new guild, and have the 2 (maybe 3, or more?!?) guilds join the new guild. Then we could work out the site (ours is good through the first of the year) and we could work on rebuilding our site with a new domain. Pipedreams I tell you, but I have to try, our members are getting restless!

Please help!

I’m an officer is a small guild on TC. We’ve been doing pretty well getting new members by my standards. Since I took over recruitment posting, we’ve gone from 9 to 30+. That may seem small still but we don’t aim to be huge due to nature of the guild.

If you’re trying to get more members, my best suggestion would be to figure out what makes your guild different. There seems to be a lot of guilds out there looking for the same thing so it makes sense that they would be having a tough time recruiting. In the same vein, you might want to add public information to your site so visitors will know what your guild is all about and what are the expectations of members. All I could find were rules. And if you’re mostly recruiting through your site, you should try to get your current members to post more. At first glance the forums look kinda dead so it’s a bad impression on potential members.

Just a couple hints. Best of luck.

TC’er also….good server. But we don’t RP.

Bigger isn’t necessarily better either. Sometimes it will take what you love and enjoy and turn it into a job. In the end… its about managing and dealing with people and, unfortunately….egos. Ran a large guild for several years. Will never do that again.

A solid group of 15-20 friends if far better than 200 people you barely know. My wife and I run a small guild of about 35 accounts. But as these things go, we have a core group of people..old friends and new friends of about 15-20 also.

If we recruit at all, we do it one at a time by just playing with folks or helping someone out in mapchat or in-game and then playing/talking with them.

Good Luck in whatever you decide…but be careful what you wish for. You might get it.

Its just a matter of taking the time to really form bonds with the people who join the guild. The better chemistry the guild has as a whole is almost contagious to new members.

Also, try to include the new guys as much as possible until they are out of that “not so sure about this guild” phase. Show them your worth by appreciating theirs.

Time is a huge factor too. Guilds don’t grow overnight. It took my guild leader a very long time to get us at 140 members (and steadily climbing now) but each of those members are very loyal.
