Beautiful work relegated to town clothes...
I definitely enjoyed having the costumes in gw1 and being able to wear it during missions. especially my witches hat. however having them limited to town clothes is disappointing as I am not one of those players that will waste a bunch of time sitting in divinity’s reach. I would rather be out exploring content. So for a costume I bought with real money I will only see it 5-10 percent of the time. A waste of art if there ever was one.
I agree. I was really looking forward to some holiday themed armor skins. The only existing armor skin I like I don’t have a single character that can wear it. I love the idea and method they’ve used with the gem store…I just don’t want any of the stuff in it. In GW1 I bought almost every holiday/event costume. They looked great and allowed for some additional character customization. If the switch into and out of town clothes was automatic and the costumes could be either town clothes or armor that would be ideal for me.
I appreciate the book and horns (and hopefully other little rewards as they come in the next acts). I don’t mind the weapon skins for the “end game” gamers. While I might have liked them, they’re not worth the effort. I love the content and decorations. I’ve got some keepsakes to prove “I was there when”.
Seconding this, I always forget town clothes are even a thing since they’re tucked away in the customization screen.

The only thing that stops me from agreeing is the completely stupid transmutation system we have. If I wanted to use these skins in battle I would either have to transmute it over my current armor, erasing my current look, or buy a whole new set of exotics to transmute over. At least this way I can enjoy the skins without spending an extra 10k gold…

i agree OP…and not being able to wear costume in PVE combat like GW1 is what keeping me from buying it right now
Jabberwock: Your complaint is more about changing ANY look, not just BLTC or Event skins. Also my suggestion was to allow them to be used for EITHER town clothes OR armor. Give the players choice. Give me the option to run around as King Thorn until I get in combat, then once I’m out swap back. Or just stay as King Thorn all the time. Or look like a normal human (town clothes) until combat and then I look like King Thorn kicking butt. If ANet wants to keep some costumes as costume only for the costume brawl…great. Keep some armor only, keep some town clothes only, but give us some that can be either.
meh I ran around last night in my Mad King outfit mining candy cane and just avoiding mobs
I really like the separation of costumes as town clothes as armor. Having people running around fighting as the Mad King would be pretty reidiculous, in my opinion.

Why? Like everyone running around fighting in Flame Legion set? Maybe we should put restrictions so only 10% of the population can wear the same skins or else it will be too “ridiculous”
This game is about cosmetics, who cares if someone wants to fight in Mad King costume or a chef hat, it’s our choice. Anet doesn’t live up to it’s motto “have fun your way”, more like “have fun the way we want you to”.
I agree, gw2 like gw1, is all about cosmetics. Limiting us with fighting armor and costumes was a horrible decision on their end x_x so many great costumes that i wont get no matter how much i like them because i spend 90% of my time fighting, why would I toggle to casual clothing somewhere in the middle of that? Very inconvenient!
Its one thing for everyone to wear the same set of armor, it’s another for everyone to be wearing a big pumpkin on their heads.
I agree on this. It’s really bad to have it just for town clothes.
zeroaegis: Your paranoia is unfounded. GW1 had a costume one year that was the Mad Kings Court. Male version was much like this, big flaming pumpkin head. The alternate costume made you headless but kept the flame. I regularly run around GW1 with an Assassin that has no head but a flame. Outside Halloween I very rarely ever saw anyone running around like that. In fact most of the time you see people in the difficult to earn tonics or armor for the prestige they carry rather than the costumes that can be easily purchased.
Would also love to be able to use it in combat. The witchs outfit is just great and a lot of fun.
Would be so cool if i could choose to wear it in combat from time to time. (aside from Costume brawl, which is a fun idea nevertheless)
Genei: I was exaggerating…also, these costumes can be easily obtained with gold, whereas the GW1 costumes required cash, so they’re a bit easier to get. How many people have a full set of Arah armor or something of the like at this point in the game? I’m not saying it would ruin the game or anything, I just don’t agree with the desire to wear it anywhere (in and out of combat).
It makes no difference what other players are wearing, if they wanna spend money and look like a honey badger roaming around fighting monsters it doesn’t matter. Let them have fun and use the cosmetic items they want.
Also….doesn’t everyone and their mother run around in that ugly flame instance armor? I’d rather see people run around in the Mad King or Witch outfits, at least those are well done.
@Beronx: im throwing money at screen but nothing happens!! ill kill if i could slay risen wearing a honey badger costume

Town clothes are a straight up dud and need to be reworked.
I hardly see anyone bother with them period. The ONLY time I see them is specifically in the region where people are doing costume brawl. Never anywhere else or at any other time since release.
The instant the event is over, bank on continuing the games tradition of not seeing people bother with town’s clothes.
Course it’ll be fought kicking and screaming until it’s finally changed 3 years from now, much like every other developer insists on doing instead of adding appearance tabs.

I know, right? Why is this? It almost always happens, but at a much later date. Why not just implement it from the start and save a lot of hard feelings? C’mon, ANET…you know you want to.
The mad king costume is so cool looking, but I wont buy it since I never use town clothing. There really isn’t any armor sets that I want. Medium armor got the short end of the stick and I don’t have any where near enough gold for the T3 charr armor.

Completely Agree.
No point in buying town clothes for those few times I will be standing around.
I think it is fine the way it is.
There is a problem here very simple , town clothes got no armor kind. That means people could dress like a witch and be a guardian or war, or you suggest from now on town clothes can only be used by certain classes? That to me would be much worse.
Also , im not fond of the idea of tons of witches and mad kings running around all the time.
That being my opinion on this matter , i got both and the extra helmet already , those are very pretty and fun to use.
It’s a skin, why does a lack of armor matter? And so what if there’s a few people running around with that skin, how is it different from all the people using the COF or TA skin?
Costumes should remain as town clothes, though there should be an option implemented to override your armor appearance with that of your town clothes.
This would have to be disabled in SPvP and WvW; however, it could still only render clientside for the player so that enemies are not confused by the costumes.

Simple: Disabled for PvP. PvE doesn’t matter in the least what you look like, and it doesn’t really matter what you don’t want people to do in game. I’m not fond of others trying to cramp my fun.
In Guild Wars 1, I bought every single costume. I could wear it in town or in combat and store it with a special NPC when I didn’t want to use it. In Guild Wars 2, I have bought ZERO costumes and have no plans to buy any because of the restrictions on them. I really wanted the Mad King and the Witch costume but didn’t buy them. I am never in town except for a few minutes to meet with friends and decide what to do, then we leave. I don’t use even the town clothes that I originally got. Please make them like the Guild Wars 1 system
