Cheaper to buy the gold and get skins off trading post.
I’m really happy I’m not going to see hundreds of people running around with goofy halloween weapons.
I only have 33-35 chests, which means I would have to be super lucky (which I’m not) to get even one of the skins. I might just sell my gems for gold and buy the skins, but that would also be really costly (and it would still support what they are doing, in a roundabout way).
I’m really happy I’m not going to see hundreds of people running around with goofy halloween weapons.
And whats wrong with that? Its highly unlikely that they will still be using them that much longer after the event is done. Also, its not like there are many different looks for people running around. Its already happening with normal items; everyone is usually only running around in about 5 different looks (draconic seems highest used).

Draconic is the highest used because it is by far the easiest to get since you can easily buy it from the TP for cheap or craft it if you are an armorsmith.

Let me quote someone else that can phrase it better than me.
I can’t believe how people toss words like “entitlement” and “hard work” senselessly.
I got my scythe on 24th chest. And only when i switched to my lvl 9 mage. I figured that noobies would get more chance of “enjoying the festivities” than some lvl 80 veteran. After i got it i just stopped. It costs way too much money to get it. I consider myself VERY lucky to get a scythe and not something else.
But what i want to point out is that:
1) They should be rare… NOT. No one CARES if some other person has it. You’re not gonna stare and admire at THAT person. There are so many people with legendaries running around, i can tell you that no one really pays attention to them saying “oh man look at that guy he is so cool”, but people think “oh so THAT’S what a legendary looks like. Let me check how much gold it’s worth to spend on that thing”.
So, if EVERYONE and their mother got a Halloween skin, running around NO ONE WOULD CARE. I mean if you need a weapon skin to feel special, there is something seriously wrong with you. Most of people only care about how THEIR character looks, not how you or your buddy look. We all love to “dress up” our own characters and make them look how we want to. Apparently, it’s a wrong thing.2) It’s not an accomplishment if you get it right away. Wait… what? You are opening a chest. You are spending dollars and buying pixels. You didn’t kill anything, you didn’t take down Zhaitan, you opened a chest. And maybe you just spent more money than the price of the game, which is ridiculous.
To majority that keep saying “you knew what you got yourself into” – no we didn’t. Read other dozens of posts saying that we had no idea how rare these actually are. I’ve experienced better rare skins RNG for events in korean mmos than gw2.
Even after getting my skin early, i still don’t support this business method. They should’ve just put the skins up for sale directly and have people be happy. Seeing 5 people with greatsword chainsaws, doesn’t make the skin less special. It just makes 5 people swinging those around frantically much happier, than one lonely soul who needs his digital avatar to make him feel special for 5 minutes.
Good day.
I for one, don’t really care if everyone runs around with the same weapon/armors. If thats what they want to use, let them (this means legendaries too, which the original ones should be, holiday items shouldn’t). This is especially true with holiday items, everyone should be able to easily obtain them. Its a one time a year event, so why only allow the top X (10-20% estimate) to be able to get them. This excludes the casual players that would like to use/have them.

So I had about 20 or so chest, got a few keys, got lucky and got shoulders, not bad. So I head over to the TP to see the price of the weapon skins, and I see everything sitting at 29 gold and up, this here is the part that makes me sad.
I can’t even get mad at Anet, a little sadden that something like skins wouldn’t be for everyone and stuff like crafted weapons would be the hunting down building up part, yeah. But no I am sad most of all cause looking at the skins in the TP, simple skins, I remember the problems I had with other games before this.
Stuff like this was one of the main problems I had with Holiday events in games like WoW. Simple stupid fun stuff that should be fun for all, break down into people sitting on cash, or lucky enough to get this stuff for fun, that will never use it, throwing it in the AH for crazy amounts of gold and stuff. Once again pointing out, that we are talking about stuff for fun, not the crafted weapons.
It’s okay, I ain’t mad at them, player got to make cash some how right? Just sad to see the for shadow of how this community will be later down the road. I don’t know, maybe I have just been in CoH too long and forgot how communities where outside it.
Oh well, chin up, have fun out there guys, and may you people looking to get what you want that will use them get lucky!
<.< now I got a Necro that is in need of leveling!
