Hello, first I want to say this is not about thinking the event during halloween the clock tower was bad. That is your opinion, the event is done, get over it either way. Also to clarify I did complete the clock tower, with an asura. (admittedly it took me 12hrs straight and I never want to do it again). Anyway the purpose of this is to suggest an event. So many people struggled with the clock tower to no avail or others to a final and satisfying victory. Even some who farmed it, found the clock tower bothersome at best to `need new medication from their therapist` at worse. Regardless I think people would like a chance to get revenge. I suggest that a death to the clock tower event gets made were a group of 5 players are allowed to enter and try to destroy the clock tower. They could work their way up the tower (on the inside stairs) in order to destroy the tower from the inside out. A lot of people in the community would enjoy this, myself included. If nothing else it would be very theraputic. Please show your support by posting and adding suggestions if you would like to see a death of the clock tower event.

Again this is not about complaining about the halloween event, this is a suggestion for a future event I think people would enjoy.

Thank you and I hope you all had a happy halloween.

from what i hear on the forums most of people’s problems with this challenge isn’t that it’s a jumping challenge, its that there are far too many people in the challenge with them. And i can see why. Jumping challenges are just like most puzzles, once you learn the cycle its easy to know what to do on the repeat.
The biggest difficulty for this challenge however is the large numbers of characters in there with you. This brings out several obstacles such as lag, issues surrounding the characters size, other people fooling around to put you off, and makes it extremely difficult to see where your character is half the time, let alone where you are jumping to.
For the next jumping challenge i would like to see changes to help overcome this. Every other aspect of the game (dungeons, story mode) you can enter the instance solo. So why not do that with this instance? Give the person the chance to decide whether they would rather enter it in a party or by themselves. If that’s too much then why not limit the instance to say 6 people like dungeons. This would help too. Or failing that… this instance really you only got the achievement and exotics for the first completion of the challenge. So why not just make it so you can only complete it once. Give everyone else a chance without others ruining it for them

So, recycle the same map with things to fight instead of green poop, and actually let you KILL the clock tower once you jumped inside it at the top? Sounds fun

Two years from now, they could have a “risen clock tower” :p

I am not talking about another jumping puzzle, while I agree with your comments, this is about letting people destory (in game) something that frustrated so many of them. So Run it like the Mad King fight where you can go by yourself or with group of 5 to destroy it. I am not saying they should make it a jumping puzzle, I am sure most people would rather they didn:t. Make it fun and light hearted. I just, as I am sure so do many others, want to bring that tower down for all of my frustration.

Clocktower: Make other players transparent. It solves the issue of not being able to see and keeps the social aspect. Complaining with other frustrated players for 3 hours was actually alot of fun, and made me enjoy the challenge more. In my opinion it would have been boring without the people that failed alongside me.

Act 4: Include fireworks, a large food fight permanent buffet, cake/ candy buff treats. And mini events such as timed pumpkin carving with the winner getting one random item from cash shop. I did love the mad king says however.

Length: Possibly make each act 2 days at least in the future so more people can be included. I do not agree with extending events but programming them originally to be a little longer would make many people happier.

Other acts: honestly thought these were fantastic. Better than anything Ive experienced in an MMO before. Only suggestions would be to make similar PVP games permanent but use player skills instead of objects on the floor.

Overall a fantastic event and one that has made me love gw even more

I like this idea, TG. I don’t know if I’ll be on the Holiday team next Halloween, but if I am I’d be up for making a destroyable version of my map.

I would like to see a remake of the tower next year, but this time with some static platforms and the whole spiral os staircases and rocks rotating counter-clockwise towards us. This would make the jumps a lot harder from the static platforms to the incoming spiraling knigtmare. :^P

But please, next time, give us a title for the achievent. I think we deserve it.

So you’re the one who made the Clock Tower map? It’s really good work, I’ve taken to calling it Meat Circus 2.

I think its funny watching people fall don’t know if I’d like transparent players. That takes the fun out of it to me it’s supposed to be a challenge you know.

For me, the biggest issue was the camera at the beginning of the event since it would suddenly jump in front of an abject that was obscuring its view of me. I wish it was like the first GW and simply make things transparent when the camera has stuff in front of it.

I did this tower and it took me four hours the first time. Most of the Halloween event i spent doing it again and again. I played it until It wasn’t fun anymore and then i kept playing it. I got a lot of trick or treat bags. The tower was a good idea and I enjoyed it a lot.

Maybe next year you could get in power suits designed for climbing and start scaling the tower that way. Once you get to the top you could bash your way through the clock and then fall down, landing on different moving gears. Once you work your way to the bottom you mash things up until the tower goes critical and explodes.

The idea of the power suits is to make players immune to the gas so it would give players more time to show/explain to each other how to do the jumps. This would make you be glad you were doing this with other people instead of mad. Also, power suits are cool. I enjoyed the rush feeling though, so maybe add an escape route after the thing goes critical. You could add extra chests along the way and things that make it so the better jumpers can have something to shoot for and the people who just want to do the thing once or twice don’t get screwed. It took me 4 hours to do it the first time. Only kittens for punishment like me should have to endure that.
After blowing up the tower, you should see the mad king come and thank you for destroying that boring old thing and tell you about a new and improved tower. The second tower should be a much larger and improved version of the first. It should really be quite hard to solo, and focus on people working together to figure out different ways of getting through it. Maybe it should be impossible to do by yourself, as in you can’t start it without at least one other person. I team puzzle would be interesting.
Rambling dooooone.

The clocktower is already being ripped-apart by the green maelstrom. What would be the difference? Do you want to just carry bomb kits to the top and do it yourself? Must you POOSH LEETLE KART for your satisfaction?

The only thing that should happen is that we get another clocktower next year, but counter-clockwise and with new rubble obstacles to climb. Clocktower is friggin epic and needs to comeback. Fan-service plz

Maybe there could be a “hardcore” mode for additional little goodies like the chest loot requiring you to take a more circuitous route along the outside of the rubble-ring.

I think that is a pretty fantastic idea. What you could do is start at the top and fight your way down as you set up some kind of bomb mechanic to destroy the parts that you’ve finished. Or even better, perhaps make the dungeon timed so that players had to finish it fast or die trying!

Personally, I loved the jumping puzzle in every respect and applaud you for making it. I hope there are many more to come that are that difficult or even harder! Bring on the pain, because the satisfaction at the end is GLORIOUS!

You’re really beating yourself up about that aren’t you mate? I thought your map was great.

I was soured myself over all the (super) negative feedback, that was neither constructive nor helpful, just a bunch of complaining and ‘QQ I can’t do it’.

That said, I acknowledge that some folks were courteous, kind, and honest with their complaints and do have a point or two with regards to the difficulty and some minor glitches.

As for myself, overall I didn’t find it impossibly hard. I finished it like two or three times in the span of an hour after initially struggling with it when it first came out.

On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it around a 7 or 8. It was nice overall and it was an hour or two well spent. Thank you for such an interesting map and jump puzzle.

Need moar giant castle/clock tower motifs!

OT if it were a tasteful quest with some interesting reason to blow it up, I’m game. If it doubles as an outlet for some of the cry babies to vent some steam, so be it.

Love the idea, I hope it gets implemented in the game(next Halloween or some time sooner). GW2 has lots of tools to do this. We got trebuchets, cannons and etc. Just do it, ANet ;>

Josh, my compliments for what must have been a very challenging map to create, especially from a technical point of view. I sincerely hope there will be another jumping challenge for Wintersday that is equally challenging, or even harder!

I enjoyed it a lot!

i loved the jump puzzle. At first it was a discovery how it exactly worked, looking for easy ways to complete a hard part of the puzzle. After 20 tries i did it. After my first attempt i completed it with all my alts and then again like 30 times.

This puzzle was about swiftness and understanding what to do. Evaluate every part in you’re head what is going wrong.

My opinion for next year is a new puzzle with the same difficulty rate. Instead of raging, people should look what is going wrong.

It definitely wasn’t the “jumping puzzle” aspect that frustrated me – it was the crowd + camera wonkiness + timed aspect that caused me to bail.

Making other players transparent or translucent is one idea, but why introduce an artificial-looking element into the game? Instead, I’d recommend a different kind of jumping puzzle, one that leverages a feature in the current game, specifically the red visual indicator in the ground that warns you of incoming damage. You can use this to indicate areas that are about to fall away, necessitating the player to jump or dodge to reach the next “safe” area. If you did this, you could potentially make the actual running surfaces large enough to accommodate multiple different “safe” routes, thereby eliminating the need for the players to bunch together to reach the one teensy-tiny safe platform. This would allow you to not only keep the player models 100% visible, but also actually ENCOURAGE players to take different paths, since the more clustered the harder it will be to see the safe route. Plus the falling-away sections would definitely maintain the level of suspense I think you were looking for with the constantly-rising acid, just using a different mechanic.

Just an idea..

For the record: Love the puzzle. Hard as hell.

I don’t know if its “fair” or not… I’m not going to decide. People come in all types, and this puzzle seems to be harsh to some of them. There are also problems that the less tech savvy types out there might not even realize ARE a problem for them. A fine example is your mouse:

Mouse DPI is really important in this jumping puzzle. My mouse is old, and has low DPI, that means while other people are moving their wrists ever so slightly to move… I’m scrolling across my entire desk, grabbing my mouse, picking it up, and clonking it all the way back over to the left to continue up the tower. I eventually found decent spots I could do that in, but it sure as heck didn’t make that puzzle any easier. I still beat it though.
