I’m a new player who only started in GW2, never played the first game before. I’m just curious if we can expect to see an event for those holidays next.

Thanks

Christmas and Newyear event is kind of merged into what became known as Wintersday.

In GW1 Wintersday is a human festival where the Gods Grenth and Dwayna battle it out like an epic Ground Hogs Day to see how long Winter Lasts. Grenth of course trying to prolong the length of Winter while Dwayna tries to make Spring come sooner. The whole event ending with a finale that awarded players with hats depending on the God of your server district.

There’s also technically a Canthan New Year celebration specific to Factions celebrated in time with the Chinese New Year. However without immediate access to Cantha, I wouldn’t expect to see this event until later Expansions take us to our southern cousins.

I think we’re all keeping four fingers crossed for a similarly epic Wintersday Festival for GW2. Halloween has definitely set the bar pretty high for Anet in my opinion. We may also get a ‘Mini’ festival for the American Thanksgiving, but not sure if that’ll be in the cards.

GW1 had special events on or near the following: American Thanksgiving (late Nov), Wintersday (starting about 2 weeks before xmas), Canthan New Year (near Chinese New Year — probably won’t be in GW2…yet), Lucky Day (~St. Patrick’s Day in mid-March), April Fool’s (always something special for 24 hrs — in recent years, for a week), Sweet Treats (~Easter), Dragon Festival (another Canthan/Chinese event), Wintersday in July (mid-July), Talk Like a Pirate (mid-September), and Halloween.

And a Birthday Party (which for GW2 would be Aug/Sep).

Problem with Wintersday is that the gods have gone… As Wintersday always was a battle between gods, will it now be a battle between two missing gods? I really am curious what they’ll do with it!

- Wintersday indeed for christmas and new year’s eve
- canthan new year mirrors the chinese one, although we might have to wait until expo for that
- Also wintersday in july but that’s just drops not an event
- GW1 always celebrated birthday, after few years also with big events
- Saint Patrick’s day
- Talk like a Pirate day
- April Fools is celebrated ingame, last two years with questline
- this year there was a release event for GW2 in GW1

Those are the big ones I remember out of my head. Maybe someone can complete the list.

Halloween was always the best imho for GW1 although the april fools quests were epic too. The quests were usually fun but the finale for Winterday wasn’t really cool imho.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.
