Event Duration Request
Game Designer
So on the bright side there’s a bunch of new content being released concurrently with this update that will remain in the game forever. And while I’m vastly empathetic to your specific situation, we do, unfortunately, have to deactivate Halloween eventually. I’m afraid that no matter when we do it, we’ll be cutting some players off before they get a chance to see it. But fear not, content and special event updates are going to be a regular thing in Guild Wars 2. This is but a single episode of this story.
Oh I understand and love the support. You can’t build to specific schedules. And longer durations don’t guarantee anyone can always make the event anyways, but I see no harm in at least stretching them a bit longer!
Sorry to hear you will miss the event but thank you for your service. I do agree that I would like to see events be longer. Lord of the Rings online used to do their seasonal events for a whole month. But recently they have cut them back to 2 weeks or a little longer. Not sure why. I also don’t know what other games do but I believe I heard a number of them do seasonal events for the whole month at their respective times of the year.
It says it ends on November 1st. So you’ll probably get to see some of it. You just won’t get to see the King, if he’s coming.
I also played LoTRO, and was shocked at how long the Spring Festival lasted. It got ridiculous. I remember feeling a sense of pressure a few years ago when I first heard about the fall festival, but I never collected enough tokens to buy festive items. I didn’t play for a while, and soon enough, it was fall again, and I got to collect more tokens.
I’m sure GW2 will be around for many years to come, so I wouldn’t worry about missing one little festival (no matter how awesome it’s going to be!). If it were me, I’d ask my guildies if they could save me some festival stuff so I could still have a little fun after it’s over. Maybe enough to craft a few festive weapons or something. Assuming the mats are Soulbound… which would make me sad.
Also, you said “deployed”, which gives me the impression you’re in the US Military. If so, I’d like to say thanks for serving our country, and hope you make it home soon!

This. ^
I’m a Veteran myself and I know how much of a pain it is to miss out on some of these events due to being overseas, or doing some sort of training, or doing something else that makes your Country a safer place.
You probably won’t make it in time to see all the decorations and such, but I’m sure there’ll be videos or streams that you could watch to get the feel of the whole thing. I know it’s not the same, but at least it’ll give you an idea about what was going on.
And since the materials stay put after the event, just ask some guildies if they can keep some materials, or craft you a special Halloween item or two. I’m pretty positive that people will be posting information about how to get things as they get them, so if something catches your fancy, shoot a message to your favorite guildmate and ask if they can grab it for you.
Hopefully it won’t be too rare or incredibly hard to obtain.
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
Thanks guys. I’m in the US Navy and my squadron has an odd deployment schedule (Deployed one month, home one month for about 6 months gone a year.)
You both bring up a good point, I need a guild where I know people! I don’t have any friends in a guild I could ask. Guess I have to make that the first priority.
