they certainly do love adding grinds. I don’t mind there being stuff that is a huge grind; I do mind that everything anyone would want from this event requires an absurd grind.

Its not that there are no grinds in the game, its that there are no grinds that are required to participate. If this were generic MMO X then you would need to grind so much faction and so many dungeon runs just to do the harder dungeon/raids. AKA you Must grind if you want to play past a point.

GW2 on the other hand has grinds but primaraly for cosmetic/prestigue items. You dont need a shield that looks like a grinning moon or a spider bow to participate in DE’s WvW ExDungeons and the like. If you really want to show off you can grind for said items but at that point its your choice. It comes down to the difference between haveing to grind just to keep up and electing to grind because you want shinny bling.

You mean aside from the grind for lvl 80 exotic gear, which is pretty much mandatory to be competitive in wvw or useful in dungeons.

But to get an exotic gear if you dont’ care about its skin is a very small “grind,” if at all.

That’s nowhere close to being true though.

You can aquire a full set of 80 exotic with a very small amount of grinding via the crafting system and TP. Depending on your leveling habits you may have the funds to purchase this outright when you reach 80. If not the grind to aquire will be much shorter than comperable grinds in other MMO’s. Its only if you want a special skin from a dungeon that you must grind for it. I’ll reiterate you’ve gota grind for the cosmetic/prestige/bling skins but that is far from manditory to be competitive in anything but a costume contest.

You know you don’t HAVE to grind or farm for anything, there are MANY ways to play this game.

People’s problem is “that other MMO” has trained you all to only think in terms of grinding. You want exotic armour – so you grind mobs til you get enough gold to buy exotic armour; and then you complain you had to grind. Well, news flash you didn’t have to grind it was your own personal choice.

Personally I enjoy trading on the BLTP, buy low, sell high etc. I go adventuring with my friends, exploring and having fun, do it all on a whim. And then I turn in and flip my stocks, maybe craft some gear to sell or use… I have T3 cultural armour and full exotics, and I’ve never farmed an hour in my GW2 life;

In fact… farming would be nigh impossible for me, I’m a mesmer. We’re about as much good for tagging mobs in Orr as a wet noodle xD – but my point is, you don’t HAVE to farm. Dungeons, adventuring, exploring, trading… get out and having fun. They all pay the bills – the tendancy to grind is hard wired into your brains and you have to un-train your MMO instincts if you want to be free of it!

I do mind that everything anyone would want from this event requires an absurd grind.

Not for me. What I wanted to get from this event was a shared experience, and to admire the decorations and have fun with my guildies and other random players, chow down on candy corn, and open trick or treat bags. Oh and participate in the scavenger hunt. None of that required a grind. What are you talking about?

grinding is part of any rpg mmo – you build your character, you build your stuff, you earn your respect from fighting countless battles. The real value is about being able to brag about it lol. “Son, i had to walk fifteen miles through wildcreek, while dodging arrows just to get a plank of wood!!”

so, I’m not sure if pointing out the grind is right, because in general winning is a grind…what I think is a more effective word is …Taxing. somethings feel taxing, and being taxed is not fun. Grinding your opponents to the ground in wvw on the other hand IS fun.

Grinding: Repeating same process over and over to access new content.
Farming: Repeating same process over and over to obtain items.

I did not have to repeat a single thing to progress through the entire story line. I doubt I am alone in this.

If you’ve confused grinding with farming I suggest you try PvP. This game is nowhere near old enough for it to become stale. Players are still inventing ways to get ahead of the competition, creating new challenges in the process. (Edit: Should add that AN was nice enough to bring back costume brawls, which can get…. interesting)

If PvP isn’t your thing… You’ll just have to wait patiently for AN to release new content. If you do not play, you will not fall behind. You can come back any time you are ready.

Honestly , one thing i was trying to do is convince my friends who now prefer a more casual approach to play this game.

Right now , when someone asks me all i answer is that this game is the number 1 enemy of any casual.

Rubbish. Complete utter rubbish. I’m pretty casual. I work 9 hours a day, come home, have dinner, do the washing up, put the kids to bed, spend some time with my wife, and play a little GW2 in the evening. And it’s perfect for me.
