Halloween Act 1 Informational Aid (With ToT Locations)
Temp vs Perm New Halloween Weapon Skin
There are 3 new weapon skins introduced. You can obtain temporary skins for either 150 Candy Corn or 6 silver. This is a fairly inexpensive option for anyone that just wants to get into the season.
There is also a way to obtain crafted exotic versions of these skins. These are meant as a long-term goal. Crafting these weapons will be costly and involve a big time commitment to gather the necessary materials. The trade-off is to be able to wield your Halloween themed weapon all-year round. This isn’t meant to appeal to everyone, but I must clarify that even a casual player can gather the Halloween crafting mats portion needed by simply collecting Personalized ToT bags each day. You will have all the non-Halloween time to gather the remaining crafting materials needed at your own pace.
Again this is a personal decision you will make. Keep in mind that certain crafting mats are currently rare and expensive. If you casually play this game, then hold off on farming for crafting mats that are currently rare and expensive until they become more easily accessible due to additional content updates. You will have minimized the time and expense greatly. Naturally, you will be spending a lot of gold and time if you want it now with prices and item availability currently.
Halloween crafting mats for these crafted weapons are only needed for the 3 new gift recipes. In short, a casual player only needs 750 pieces of Candy Corn and 100 of each rare Halloween crafting mat to have enough for all three gift recipes. While this may seem to be a daunting task on paper, you will probably average 100 pieces of Candy Corn and 15 assorted rare Halloween crafting mat from the Personalized ToT bags gained from the Scavenger hunt per character per day. Again this is solely from Act 1 scavenger hunt locations without gaining these mats from other sources.
If you feel like you are just swimming in Candy Corn and lack the other Halloween crafting mats, then you can trade Candy Corn to trick-or-treaters in Lion’s Arch for more ToT bags. Additionally, there are Mystic Forge conversions that let you turn any of the rare Halloween crafting mats into another. This is very helpful if you’re not looking to learn a particular gift recipe and wish to cut down the time you need for the one(s) you want.
I believe I have stated everything I could think of regarding Act 1. I will make any necessary changes if I come across new information.
Premature Happy Halloween!!
Scavenger Hunt
By talking to a npc in Lion’s Arch, you will gain a Candy Meter and one Personalized ToT Bag. The Candy Meter is used to detect Suspicious Locations and needs 1 Candy Corn per 4 uses or until you unequip the bundle. These are currently restricted to Krytan areas, so don’t go looking around too far!In addition to the ghosts you need to search for this event, there are also fixed areas that reward you with more Personalized ToT Bags! At the end of the hunt, you also get a unique skin equipment piece usable by any level character. There may an
Personalized ToT Bag Is The Casual Way to Gain Crafting MatsThe difference between these and regular ToT bags are that they are soulbound. However, the contents you gain after opening them are tradeable! These contain the Candy Corn, rare Halloween mats, etc. that you can get from the normal ToT bags. There are at least 32 ToT bags worth around the 5 sites the ghosts are located per character per day!
Assuming you only have your 5 characters, that is at least 160 free Personalized ToT bags each day before the server resets at 5pm PST. Gaining all those Candy Corn stacks and high quantities of the other Halloween mats just got a lot easier didn’t it? This is just with Act 1 locations. Imagine the added ToTs you can get when more sites get added in future acts. Your welcome =)
Can you expand upon this one some more? I didn’t know there were personalized ToT bags. I thought they only came from random drops. These are around the spots where you get the books?
That is correct. Suspicious Locations either spawn a ghost, ambush you with Halloween monsters, trigger another Suspicious Location, or reward you with Personalized ToT bags.
Example: Use your candy meter on the diving board in LA with aqueous frequency. If you follow the hint on where to jump after, then you are rewarded with 5 Personalized ToT bags. =)
Without spoiling the ghost sites, I will put the Personalized ToT Bag count that I currently know of.

Site 2: 13

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
you forgot to mention the most expensive mat needed for the permanent-weapon skin recipe. Which is 40 elonian wine that cost around 33silver each.
ATM it cost around 15-16g to buy all the mats from TP in order to make the recipe from the forge.
Hey,
Thanks for this well done thread.
However, I’m a bit confused about the personal ToT using the Candy Meter, as I’ve found none yet. Can you be a bit more specific about their places ? Should we use the same frequency than the one for the near ghost or another one ?
Thanks in advance, and happy Halloween !
I’ve only been able to get the bags to show up at one spot. They are a bit difficult to get to spawn.

Do you have a link to where those 5 sites are? I haven’t seen anything about them yet.
Please give us a keyring…
I purposely didn’t mention the Elonian Wine as I felt this falls into the other crafting mats portion for the weapon recipe. I wanted to concentrate just on what is needed from Halloween. Each Elonian Wine is 25 silver 60 copper, for a total cost of 12.4 gold, and can be bought anytime. I believe they were doing this to make it comparable in price to the other gifts, which cost 10 gold to buy the recipe.
The 5 sites I refer to are the sites hinted at in the Mad Memoires for the Scavenger Hunt. Each book gives you a hint on the location of 2 sites. These Personalized ToT Bag locations I mentioned are in the general area of these sites. They will utilize their own particular frequencies to find them, and do not necessarily share the same frequency as the ghost themselves.
I will list the ToT bag locations that I know of:
Site 1: In the sewers T section near the entrance for Order of Whispers of Lion’s Arch. Use gaseous frequency there. A mist ghost will emerge from one end of the T intersection to the other. As he travels, 3 Suspicious Locations will appear each giving you one ToT bag for a total of 3.
Site 2: In the post, you earn 5 doing the diving board. As soon as you are in the ocean, swim towards the left Lion statue. There is a suspicious activity there (corporeal?) which then activates a location on the right Lion statue for 4 ToT bags (press 4 times).
Swim towards the old LA fountain and use aqueous frequency at the top of it for a location. Activating this triggers 4 other locations that spout below for ToT bag each.
Site 3: At the entrance to the graveyard, there are two angel statues. The left angel statue has a location (ethereal?) which activates for the right angel. 4 ToT bags from the right angel.
This next one is a bit tricky. Further ahead is a court of graves. On the rightside should be fencing on the cliff. Climb on the fencing then onto the pillar bush next to it. From there, jump up the tombs to the middle and tallest one. Aqueous frequency there for a location. After activating this location, another will trigger at the Angel Fountain for 4 more ToT bags.
Site 4: Get on top of the shacks by jumping onto the small wooden pole and from there the shacks. Scan for a location. This triggers another location in the crypt behind you for 4 more ToT bags.
Site 5: In the room with the first set of spike traps, there is a location (corporeal frequency) near the right graves. Activate to trigger 4 more locations inside the graves for 4 more ToT bags.
Here are what each site is specifically:
Site 1: Lion's Arch sewers.
Site 2: Old Lion's Arch
Site 3: Queensdale Graveyard
Site 4: Kessex Hills - Blackroot (north east part of map)
Site 5: Gendarrian Hills - Provernic Crypt (north middle part of map)
In total I have found 32 ToT bags. Enjoy! =)
Edit: If you have found this thread/information helpful for this Halloween event, then please feel free to comment as such. I wouldn’t want this help thread to be lost in obscurity. I hope to get this stickied, so the whole GW2 community can benefit.

+1 for sticky! Great information here.
Charr Ranger of the Iron Legion
I was so out of it I didn’t even notice these spots. I’ll have to go back tonight and collect the candy that is rightfully mine!
Posting for your requested “thank you”! = )
This helps at least give me something else to do casually, that can be entertaining for this holiday event. I didn’t know the Personalized ToT bags could give recipes, either, so that was nice (got a Major Rune of the Mad King recipe for Armorsmithing from one bag).
Thanks for taking the time to post this info! B-)
Where do you actually obtain the recipes for the permanent skins?
-Mike Obrien
“We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills” -Colin Johanson
Thank you so much for posting this! I didn’t know the personalized ToT bags reset every day. My main concern for getting the mats is can I still craft the exotic weapons after the mad king events. I can focus on getting the special mats now, and worry about the rest later, but do I need to get a recipe for the items or what? Basically, what things can only be crafted during the event, and what can be done later. Thanks again!
oh, and anyone have a link to the weapon recipes and well? I’m looking but can never find them
See, this is perfect. This document is what ANet should of had posted on their website 5 days ago. Yes on the 19th of Oct. And they should have one going with atleast, AT LEAST this much info on act 2 TODAY. It should not have to be posted by a player 2 days after the event launched. They were so good in gw1. I know there is more content now but guess what, their making more money now. Hire more people. Get you kitten together.
Some of us cant play every day and need this info in advance so we can hit the ground running when the event starts. Thanks for all the content but without any documentation on it, half of it gets missed. Get something like this wonderful write up about act two out TODAY. End of story
this are spoilers so use it wise.

Arenanet take notice of this post because this would have stopped alot of complaints. The problem is not rare skins drops, not the selling of black lion chests, not the ( insert name) not doing ( insert complaint).
The problem is the BAD communication between what to expect, what to do, with this event! Expecting people to discover SOME things is fine and good but to remain so closed mouthed about an event that has people running around confused and unhappy is unexcusable!
The originating poster of this thread gave no discovery secrets away…he simply gave a straight forward over view of what to EXPECT! I now feel so much better about this event than I did the last few days.
All you need to do is give good communication…whether it’s regarding rare drops from chests to a simple cohesive overview of the holiday and it would have decreased your complaints/headaches.
I really hope the gaffes done with this event are a learning curve because I don’t want a nightmare Christmas to follow.
Wow, even more great stuff in this post! Gracias, Sabin!
BowMasterSol – At the end of the hunt, you also get a unique skin equipment piece usable by any level character. There may an addition to the Scavenger Hunt in future acts.
I did finish the Scavenger hunt but did not get any skin equipment – what did I do incorreclty?
cherrie – The recipe for the gifts needed to craft the new weapons are obtained via a Mystic Forge specific input: 250 candy corn + 40 Elonian Wine + 10 Piles of Crystalline Dust + 100 X Halloween Rare Crafting Mat
Zyava – You need to have all 6 books in your inventory and then talk to asura magister npc that gave you the Candy Meter. Select the option to turn in your books and she will mail you your reward. =)
Sabin – Thank you for that link. This is basically what I was alluding to in previous posts and it’s great there is a picture guide for it. I’m also excited that I found them all with a friend and didn’t miss any.
In regards to the crafted weapons again, I am reading that the actual creation may utilize Superior Sigils of Night. Each of these sigils require 100 candy corn to make, and currently the wiki states you need 20. Once I see this finding backed up by a good number of the community, I will edit the original post as needed.
IF this is the case, you will need an additional 2000 candy corn per weapon for an additonal total of 6000. While this increases the amount we need by a lot, candy corn is still a readily accessible mat to acquire. We also have to keep in mind this is Act 1 and Superior Sigils may be gained from new sources other then crafting.
god forbid Anet want people to discover things and have the joy of figuring it out…
Bowmaster – the only thing I did receive for gathering 6 books was the Mad Memoirs accessory, no skin. Are you sure I should’ve received one?
That book is the skin. It is a back pack.
Bowmaster, you are now and forever my Forums hero. Great post! I was really getting bummed by all the complaining around here.
Guys wanted to ask about Act II im from Europe and im now 8 hours different from Anet time but in Sunday in europe its winter time so we go -1 hour that means 7 hours. Wanted to ask Anyone knows when Act 2 Starts i mean i know its on October 26 but will it be the evening on Thursday for them and morning for (europeans)
Oh man, where was this thread when all the miscommunication took place? This is super informative and would have help greatly on introducing people to the event without shouting in the chat what are they suppose to do. Not like it annoyed anyone or anyone retaliated against it but it lessen the repeated questions ^^;
@Foronisus: I don’t think the staff have released statements when the Act will be, just keep eyes open for it when the date draws near.
Wow. That rare halloween crafting materials really are rare. Good that they are at the trading post for a bit more than 1 silver. I’m not getting the discovery recipes… would need to much stuff to farm to discover all of them. Bought the karma ones. And may buying 100 of one of that rare materials at trading post for one of the skin recipes. Already have a lot of candy corn(easy to farm) and getting the other expensive stuff that is ingame all the time later then.
1. Carvable pumpkins are usually located near POIs and Vistas in LA and Kryta.
2. You need to open 100 halloween bags, kill 150 halloween mobs, and carve 150 pumpkins for the achievements (correct me if I’m wrong about the pumpkin)
3. The best place to farm doors for bags and mobs is south east of provern waypoint in Gandarran Hills. It’s a mini pirate base that spawns four doors very near one another. Farming is best done in a group as you get credit for every mob you get a hit on and bags that you get halloween bags from are lootable by everyone around them for a short time.
One thing I’m curious about is whether character level or crafting skill determines what sigil and rune variations drop from tot bags. I’m level 74 with 303 armorsmithing. I’m wondering if that’s why all I’m getting are major recipes.
Thank you very much for the information, could you please just explain the part about the diving board? I did the diving but didnt get any bags for it, although I did find the rest of the locations to be accurate
Stanucz – I highly doubt it. I read that superior recipe was a possible drop, but this isn’t 100% fact. It may just be that only the major recipes are available from the ToT bags. I do know that Superior Rune/ Sigil from this event can be crafted via mystic forge. If I find that the bags do not have a chance for Superior recipes then I will edit that later.
Kaderin- I mentioned the diving board specifically in a separate post, but didn’t go into as much detail when I restated it. I probably should have. You need to go to the diving board in LA and use aqueous frequency at the very edge to activate a location. Follow the prompt after triggering. =)
I would like to thank everyone for their compliments and constructive criticism. I saw a lot of people getting very upset mostly due to not fully understanding the event. I have decided to do my best to make additional threads for future Acts as they arise. You guys have gotten me motivated to do so. Thank you and enjoy!
Ah thanks, sorry that I missed your other post explaining it I assumed the earlier one explaining the sites and “how to” was the only one that mattered :x once again, thanks for sharing this info <3
I just wished that this kind of thing was better hinted at(?) information on halloween is so scattered that was also why your thread is a godsend :x but others who dont browse this forums will probably miss this kind of thing and its not right in my opinion..but I digress, thats on anet’s end I’ll wait for your next thread in the event that you do continue making them and hopefully help somewhat in putting out the info
Anyone knows when Act II starts in Europe ( exact time and pls write timezone)
Foronisus – Unfortunately, we don’t know the specific time. We can only speculate based on Act I’s release. Act I started around 8:30 PST if I remember correctly. I am unsure how that relates to your timezone, but I would expect something similar to this. Another way to get a good estimate is to look at the event progress bar in Lion’s Arch. I believe an event leading into Act II will start when this bar meets completion.
Very nice post, makes it a lot clearer for me!
Am I the only one confused on how to use the candy powered matter meter? I realize it requires candy corn to use now thanks to the forums, which seems obvious, and I found strong readings but using the different types of matter scanning doesn’t seem to be changing anything.
Also sorry so many people are bringing the same negativity to your thread here, I started just scrolling past some of the comments
Mega Skeleton- All the Suspicious Locations that you can find using your Candy Meter are always triggered by the same frequency for each spot. If you get a strong reading on your meter, then that means you are somewhat close to a location (though still possible to not be close enough to reveal on scan). An example is the diving board in LA. You will always use the aqueous frequency for that specific location to reveal. I hope this helps.
In regards to posters on this thread, I believe it’s really the opposite. Perhaps as you scrolled down you noticed a lot of keywords usually associated with negativity, but it’s just people saying how they are being more positive. xD
BowmasterSol – kitten confusing someone said its for Act IV than i heard its for Act III the special event one-time event now i hear its for Act II dont know what to belive. Btw i was sleeping when Halloween started so dunno exact time im GMT + 1
This is a fantastic and informative thread. Thank you to everyone who has contributed, especially the OP. I have a semi-related question though.
As I don’t much care for crafting, or the temporary skins, what uses for the materials do I have? I figured just sell them on the trading post (as I’m still low level, relatively broke, and don’t play much) and essentially use them as a farming material.
I didn’t notice in game, but do the holiday materials have a timer on them like WoW (my primary MMO experience)?
Einzelherz – You can eat candy corn for the monthly achievement or open ToT bags for another. As far as Act I is concerned, if you’re not interested at all in gaining new crafting recipes, new mats for crafting, and making a temp/permanent weapon , then there isn’t much other use for the materials. It’s possible more usage for them, specifically candy corn, may be introduced with additional acts. The mats do not have a timer. Once you gather them, you will possess them until you get rid or consume them.
Great info. Thank you.
EDIT: I heard the LA Personal ToTs are gone? I got 5 from the Diving but none from the rest of LA. Rest of LA spawns the locations, but nothing to loot. Waste of candy.
The rest of the Personal ToTs are still in the world. Just not LA. Is it worth trading candy to kids in LA? How much you give? 10, 25, or 50?
(edited by Hsinimod.5784)
I just wanted to mention that I received the Armorsmith version of the Superior Rune of the Mad King from a personal ToT bag from the kids in LA. It seems I was quite lucky since I only opened about 10 bags before it appeared. Then I proceeded to hand the kids about 400 more candy corn and only got food and crafting mats.
Does anyone know where I can find the new discoverable recipes for all the crafting professions that were mentioned in the first post, like the discoverable Halloween jewelery?
Chloe (Version 3):
[i7 930 @ 4.1Ghz (1.3875V) w/Cooler Master 120M][Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (stock)]
Hsinimod- Yes. Unfortunately 11 of the Personal ToTs were taken out of LA due to exploiting of overflow servers. This will be part of Act 1 errata I will include when I create an Act 2 thread. I believe the best Candy Corn => Personal ToT ratio for the trick or treaters in LA is 50 Candy Corn => 8 ToTs, which comes out to 6.5 Candy Corn per bag.
ElenaDragon- gratz. This confirms that Superiors are dropped from them as well.
Illithis- For specific recipes, I would check the wiki. However, I will be including specific recipes when I make an Act 2 thread.
