what happened to equality?? how are you going to make a scavenger hunt that jumps from town to low level to high level and expect all players of this game to enjoy the event?? I understand that GW2 is supposed to be challenging and i support that. but this is a HOLIDAY EVENT AND SHOULD BE FUN AND ENJOYABLE FOR ALL LEVEL OF PLAYERS PERIOD!!!! what happened to the way you guys made events in GW1? it was all set in lower level areas where everyone could enjoy them! now we have to try to do events where stepping on a spike trap will kill us instantly and oozies just kitten is without lube. it is ridiculous and i hope for the sake of ALL PLAYERS OF THIS GAME that you guys realize that a challenging game is fun but when it comes to holiday events you guys need to try to keep it in the lower areas for ALL to enjoy…

They have provided a ton of content for all players … Even in GW1 I remember there being some content available only for lvl 20s… The difference is now the cap is 80.

I think having a large portion of the content available to all players while reserving a lil bit for higher levels is just fine.

Also, I have heard of plenty of lower level characters who have been able to do all of the events. If you need to group up with some higher level characters, then do so. I’m going to have to, and I don’t have a problem with it.

GW1 was much more social then this and i honestly feel that people were more helpful

I can name one… Me. I’ve escorted plenty of lowbies through it.

You must play on a crappy server, there’re usually people on my server willing to help low levels they see out in the world. That and this thing called a guild.

I helped plenty of low levels with this quest. I even stayed for a bit to rez and kill the mobs around. Just need to ask in map chat sometimes.

I’ve done every single event on my level 25 (33 now from all the exp I got this week) engineer.

I needed help with getting to Sparkfly fen for the second book, but luckily there were a lot of high level people going that way that I could tag along with. I kept dying, but some really nice players kept coming back to rez me. I mean, yeah there were some people who trained mobs towards me and didn’t care at all that they killed me as they ran away, leaving me lying there dead, but at least there were also plenty of kind players to help me out.

Lots of low level people have completed the memoirs. Yesterday I even saw a level 6 charr in sparkfly fen getting his last page. He was getting one-shot a lot though.

But yes, I’ve seen some high level guys run up to a downed player, then after getting close enough to see their level, they just back off and stand idle refusing to res that poor low level guy just trying to get a nice back piece. Maybe it’s because low level players draw aggro from a billion km radius. Some may find that annoying.

However once in a while someone nice will come around, so have patience and wait until enough people appear and follow them in or keep trying. Not like the repair costs are staggering at lower levels.

Honestly , the events were all fine , the only real MAJOR problem i saw was the RNG stuff.

Other than that? Ready to go.

TC… relax man, you can do it, how do i know you can do it? i did it on a level one toon. i was level 5 by the time i turned in the pieces for the second book. I don’t spend all day on here, this is the first time i’ve logged in in almost a month. you can do it, just let the higher levels rush in and kill/train then work your way in. Also wife, kids and job are not excuses., i have a wife, 2 kids,and a full time job/ semi full time second job.

Did you ask for a res? Personally, I don’t res random dead players because I find that most of them are bots.

I got the Masterwork book across several of my characters, including my elementalist in her mid-teens. How? We made it a guild shindig. Escorted by someone who was higher level made it possible.

It was also hilarious being gigantic aggro magnets and trying to evade everything to stay alive because we’d get one shot if we didn’t. Overall we all enjoyed it, and laughed our kittens off.

1. it’s not difficult to follow some high levels in those areas to speak to the ghosts. Hell, if the strangers are so cold, join a guild and ask for guildies help. It’s a mmo afterall, try to social with other players.

2. the rest of the high level events will boost your level to 80. You can fight the mad king and his champions as a lvl 1 with max level stat. And here, you are asking for.. what was that word… equality?

Almost every single part of the event will let you experience as a low level characater, name me one mmo that would let you do that. In WoW you can’t even queue for dungeon for horseman unless you are lvl 90.

I killed that dumb champ spider atleast 12 times for players and I did not even need to, he just killed others.

You don’t really have to fight mobs in the higher level areas. If you are unsure of where to go, ask a friend to lead the way.

I understand your frustration, but you could always go to the beginning of the area and ask in map chat if anyone would be willing to escort you to the event. I’m sure someone will help you.

Other than that, as people have pointed out, you could ask your guild for help.

I love this events, and my wife (low level pg) love it too …
P.S. I have family, child and job; i’m not an hardcore player, and my son love to watch me do the Clock tower (he builded a Lego clock tower too).

Honestly, it’s fun for every char level, imho.

I got the full book on my level 30 alt. Getting to Sparkfly Fen was a bit rough(I died twice — both times I was rezzed within 20 seconds by a helpful passer-by). Once I made it to the Fort, the ghosts got me two more times… and again, some high levels rezzed me as soon as the enemies were dead.

FYI: Rushing to 80 one week after release isn’t necessary to participate in an event that started two months after the game launched. But hey, congrats on having a life/family, I guess?

Answers are all here but the main one is to ask your fellow guildies to help out.

Wow, just wow. I’m usually willing to help anyone and usually sprint to ress every downed/dead player I see, but if I found someone as nice and kind as you lying dead the urge to teabag would be unstoppable.

Your apologies are appreciated, but you should note that
a) you don’t need much time to get to 80
2) you don’t even NEED to get to 80 for the scavenger hunt, 50-60 will solo it just fine III) the game has been out for 2months+ and
lastly) Every single part of the event thus far can be done by a level 1 with the help of an higher level buddy.

Maybe you should get some of those too, along with your life your job and your family. It honestly looks like you are just complaining for the sake of complaining.

I agree with dead jezebel.4359 on some points. I had a lot more fun with the holiday events in GW 1 than I have had with this even. It’s true that I don’t play all the time, I think part of problem is I spent my time playing over 4 characters as opposed to just one because, I like playing different classes. As someone who is lower level, I have to say, mining candy corn doesn’t do it for me. I’m not high enough level to craft anything decent with that anyways, or any of the other Halloween crafting items. I also thought the temporary Halloween weapons is lame, in GW1 we had the some thing with lower level weapons and it wasn’t temporary. I think should at least be able to take the skin off it and put it on another weapon.

I tried to do the scavenger hunt and just run out there and see if I could just run through the crypt. It was nice for people who tried to rez me, but then they started going down because they were rezing me all the time and I just didn’t think it was fair to them to suffer because I was too low level to handle the area.

I’ve tried to compare if this even is really different than GW1 event, since I feel there are some expectations if you been to all the GW1 events. I think mostly it’s that a lot of items you can now make, were just drops or skins that were easy to attain in GW1.

I’ve keep reading about how it’s supposed to be easy to participate in this even if you low level ankittenep trying to figure out what people are doing that is so fun, because I really haven’t been having a great time. It just feels like a grind, and that I’m being gauged in game and out for money for gems, or in game expensive crafting items. I know that there is still more to come, and I’m hoping I’ll be pleasantly surprised but so far I’ve been very disappointed.

Get help from other people, there are tons of helpful people around you.

I got the book on my level 20 toon without any help, although I did die few times basically because mobs at bloodtide coast and sparkfly den can one hit kill you if your level is too low.

You can sneak pass through all those mobs without actually have to fight them.

How long has this game been out now… Make it to 80 in a week you say… -checks calendar- Ok good, thought I slipped through a wormhole or something.

Every event other than the scavenger hunt scales you to 80

However, not every other event guarantees you a decent back slot item, which does not appear normally until the early 30’s with your personal story.

I didn’t even bother with the scavenger hunt on my alts simply because I knew I had to go to a 55-65 zone and my 2nd highest character is 30. Heck, my main is only 58 and I’ve been playing since launch.

I think the main difference is that gw1 was a max level of 20. You could achieve that level pretty rapidly.

Hopefully in the future they will have quests that both start and finish in the lower areas for lower level characters.

Yes, it’s all “do-able” by lower level characters, but get off your high-horses for a moment and think about it – the OP’s point is true:
The event is simply not low-level friendly, in the way that most GW1 events were.

It’s not a question of “entitlement” or any of the other ill-considered and inconsiderate stuff Bluebird is ranting about.

Getting bumped up to level 80 is not as helpful as everybody assumes: you have diddly in traits, equipment upgrades etc, and you are thrown into areas with large numbers of high-level enemies, that a lower-level player has simply not learned to deal with yet.

Sure, you can get help – but look at Provernic Crypt: if you get insta-gibbed by the traps, and you can’t move out of the trap from your downed state (eg. Ele)… no player can rez you. The trap continues to pulse and removes life faster than the rezzer can give it to you. You’d need a whole crowd of rezzers.

I didn’t get past act2, because none of my characters was high enough level to survive in all the required areas, and it didn’t sound like FUN getting constantly insta-gibbed and then waiting for some kind soul to come along and rez me so I can get a little further.

I went into the Mad King mini dungeon (which said “level 2”?!), with a level 42 character, in a PUG. There was also a level 14 character in the party. We went into the dungeon, and we all got our rear ends handed to us. After that, I simply gave up – because kittening my team is not something I enjoy, and PuG’s don’t appreciate it either.

Why not make everything low-level, and downscale high-level players instead of the other way around? I mean, by Wintersday, I will no doubt have at least one character that is level 80, traited, and well equipped – good for me. But ongoing, you would hope that there will always be an influx of new players in GW2. What about those players? Isn’t it better to allow them to follow these seasonal events all the way through – instead of making them feeling rather excluded?

Eh, what has this got to do with level? I’m level 80 and I died a bunch of times from those traps. Yes they are dangerous. Guild Wars 2 is not an easy game (thank the gods). Try again and be smarter next time. The trap positions are clearly visible so it’s not like you can’t avoid them.

If you’re trying to make a point about not getting help from high level characters, you picked a very poor example, because no matter what your level is those spikes kill you in a second and once you’re down it’s nigh impossible to get revived.

This halloween event was extraordinary considering the game’s age and it’s multitude of issues that made dev focus on the ‘fun’ side more difficult than say a ten-year-old game would’ve had. Half the dev team is still trying to fix the problems that make the game unplayable, not just small inconveniences.

Anet will listen to your concerns, so please state them in a kind and considerate fashion. Developing a game is difficult, taxing, thankless work. You work hard for a month to prepare an event, and all you see is people whining about what it didn’t have.

I can only say this. Yes I have an 80 and I was willing to run lowbies around to do the quest. I did this for several friends for their alts. However…..

When I first did this it was on my alt. My alt was a level 17 at the time. A friend got her level 16 alt out. The two of us got everything done for the first act ourselves. When the second act came out my alt was then 23. I got everywhere even to the bloodtide coast ghost by myself. I waited at the ghost spawn spot for a group to do the event and then I spoke with the ghost. Yes I needed help to get to sparkfly but outside of that the event could be handled for a low level character. Follow the zerg helped in some areas.

I lugged a level 10 friend around and got it done without much issue.

If you have a friend around they gladly will help.

The other events level you up to 80 so you can participate. The labyrinth and the MK battle are two events no matter your level you can have great success.

uh, at least for the quest, the highest level area you have to go into is sparkyfly fen, that’s like, a 55-65 area. It’s not top level. The big act three event is autoscaling, and the clocktower at least is totally independent of your level. There is a lot to do for people that haven’t hit 80 yet.

It has nothing to do with level. It is all to do with “getting help” with tough areas.
Which is why I started that part with “Sure, you can get help…”

To everyone else, yes – it’s all “do-able”. We know that. We get it. That’s not the point though. The question is, why not make stuff low-level and downscale the high-level players, to make seasonal events as inclusive as possible? Instead of telling eveyone how “this person at level 1 did it all”, or “you can do it if…”?

First I want to point out that I have a full time job and other hobbies besides the game.

I started the scavanger hunt when my character was level 21. Sure I died now and then but extra run speed and patients got me trough it. I might have been lucky that always when I was supposed to kill something there was either a whole group of higher levels already there and ressing me when I died or they had already killed whatever spawned and I just had to run up and talk to the ghost.

I like that it’s challenging. Sure, it might be a bit frustrating at times but I like it difficult.

I am having the same problem, I have a level 41 toon that I have been trying to get to Sparkfly and the undead just keep killing me in 2 hits, has been completly fustrating as this is the last peice I need for the second act. Unfortunatly I have not seen alot of people on my server, I forgot which on it is, in that area, can anyone tell me what is a good server to be on? Thanks.

To all complaining about the friendliness of GW1 to low levels versus this. I’d say this is way more so. Half of the quest content in GW1 was in nightfall in areas like vabbi and the desolation. Totally unreachable for lowbies. Another major potion was clearing the UW. Impossible if you weren’t a rather skilled player who had the gstones to prove it. Remember that guys? Gstones barring content? Yeah GW1 was perfectly friendly to casual players.

It has been 2 months since release. Not hard to get to 80 even playing VERY casually. It sounds like you just want to complain.

I have done all content on my level 11 (now 13) necromancer. For the mad memories, I ran to each zone and usually there was a group of players there willing to assist. Even found a guy running a group of low levels around. Admittedly, the crypt was the hardest one to find assistance for, but that I got a guild mate to help out with it.

Not all content in this Halloween event is designed for every person. There is plenty of content to go around, but some come easier to those who have achieved a higher level. If you are level 2 you can still explore pretty much any of the content.

I got both books with my level 9-13 Necro. First book by myself by metal gearing through everything and help in the mini dungeon. Second book with help from guild hardly died more than probably 7 times whole run because I know how to evade like a baws. B/

I do feel for the OP seems your on a server with really unfriendly people. I was able to complete book2 on my lvl17 necro and i was ressed countless times by people and helped through the high level zones. Unfortunitly another ugly thing have reared its head with the MK dungeon event even tho the req is just lvl2 lvl80s just want lvl80s to group with em making exscuses like damage is not the same or loot is somehow affected. This is the kind of elitist behaviour that i can’t stand.

The naked book hunt zergs are going to be among the funniest memories I’m going to have from this Halloween (completely in line with the mad king kind of fun).

I did on my lvl 23 Ele (naked) died only 3 times in total. Best line ever at the page were blue fire drops and we have to put it out with water, random players says “hurry naked girl use the water” I laughed so hard at that.

Pro tip: water is your friend! swim up the river in the hitherlands, swim the edge of the map in the bloodtide coast (bonus points if you are a female human in yellow “swimsuit” and the shark boss spawns and kills you. add Jaws music theme at your own discretion).

Generally if you join a guild you can find someone to help you out with either the MK dungeon or the ghost quest. The ghost quest isn’t that entertaining honestly. The MK is fun though. Hope you get to play them

My level 25 died about 6 times total, each death being one-shot. There’s like 20 people wandering around when you get close to the right area though, so it wasn’t too big a deal. Just strip yourself naked when you reach the areas that way out-level you so you don’t get kittened by repair bills.

I have to admit that when I was running for the last page, the fact that if I stopped for half a second would get me killed was rather exhilarating.

I killed the Mad King in a random PUG at level 29. Actually went from 29 to 31 just from that dungeon with PUGs, no group had more than two level 80s. We never lost, even when one guy logged off without leaving the party and we were a man down.

I decided to try something stupid and get the book on my lvl 31 alt just because I thought the looks fit his style.

At every point where it got harder, high level players helped me out, clearing the way and rezzing me. I want to thank all of you that helped the lowbies get through. It was great experience to meet so many kind strangers.
