Halloween Update Anticipation [Merged]
Hello.
Will Guild Wars 2 have a Halloween event? I remember reading a post about Guild Wars 2 a while back stating that they were working on one. But when will it actually happen? On the other MMO’s I’ve played, they had a Halloween event and it started two weeks before October 31st (around mid October).
Will Guild Wars 2 do the same thing? Or will it only be a one day event held on October 31st? Did anyone here play the original Guild Wars 1 and remember what happened? What sort of events are there? Was it fun? When did the events start?
Any information is appreciated.
I played the original aswell as factions, nightfall and the exp pack. the halloween event was about 2 weeks long, and only in the 1st and 3rd games, factions being more asian-like didnt have an event til the canthan new year (chinese new year) or so. sure hope they bring back events, but with other top priorities, i can see if there isnt one for awhile.
*edit, also forgot to mention there were decorations, stuff changed or added like the water (in LA) was green and smokey, the moon was a kick kitten orange skull, the giant fountain changed to giant cauldron, oh and of course Mad King Thorn npc finale.

Sounds interesting. Cant wait!
Halloween in Guild Wars is/was my fav MMO holiday. If they don’t have it in Guild Wars 2 I’ll pop on to Guild Wars for it. I need my yearly mad king thorn fix. I know there are more pressing things the dev team need to work on so I’ll for give them for this year lol.

They’ve said their will be holiday events, and we will even finally get to hear Mad King Thorn’s voice for the first time. I would expect it to last a week or so and the day of have the King spawn an event every 2-3 hours.
just noticed the halloween contest with mention of in game stuff on the main page coming soon, woo hoo, but no further details just yet.
thats ok! thx for the heads up AN!
Now that we know that a Halloween event is coming what does everyone think will happen?
Will it feature diminishing returns on pumpkin hats and mad king thorn jokes?
I hope not!

I dunno, but I won’t be able to see much of it if they don’t fix the camera and fov issues by then.
They’ll give out candy but they’ll put DR on candy drops and ArenaNet will issue a statement that they never intended for candy to be enjoyed more than once every 30 minutes.
Forget it I knew I shouldn’t have posted this just a bunch of complainers responding.
Could I have a mod close this thread?

Madking in GW2.. looking forward to that.

My post was a joke. If you didn’t get it, well, I am sorry this forum made you such a person.

So it was a joke, OP is just reacting to all the whining going on lately. The fact that he created a thread that was in no way in relation to all the kittening envolving DR and yet here it seeps into his thread, its obnoxious. But yeah haha, good joke….
Since I never played GW1 I am also very curious. I can’t wait actually. Did they have one day events or longer in GW1?

Spot on.

Bit of both. The Mad King showing up, for example, only happened on Halloween. Decorations would go up in the major cities and special Halloween drops would be around for around longer – IIRC, around a week. There were also seasonal quests that would appear shortly after the decorations/drops started appearing.

oh awesome, thanks! That sounds like great fun.
Definitely a festival update.
I’m more than sure they would love to do this, and will. But this month, time is probably still a huge stretch for them. Thinking back to blogs I read about GW1. The holiday events were planned and implemented on the developers time. As in, whoever wanted to came into office during the weekend and that’s how they started their first Halloween event.
I wouldn’t doubt their claim on adding content in the slightest. They already have tons of places where you can see where plans were laid out to add things. It’s just really early and there has been a lot of problems that need fixing.
Yea I’m just very curious as to what the timeframe that they are planning to add content updates is and when we will know more about the content updates and/or the Halloween update. I’m really hoping for some information soon!
Anybody really excited to see what Anet has in store for us this upcoming Halloween? Coming from GW1, and joining the community around the time Nightfall came out (I eventually got all the games and became a super nerd) I missed the first events and became envious of the players with the “Pumpkin Head” and “OG Santa Hat”.
How do you guys feel about the event? What do you think is going to happen? Do you think they’ll stick with the Pumpkin Head for the very first Halloween event?
I forgot.. costumes events.
I hope they bring back Mad King… or maybe The Dark One… OH OR DHUUM.
They did a lot of nice artwork for events in the first game, so I am looking forward to seeing what they did this time.
As far as content goes, I liked the solo underworld mission they did one time (did they re-use it later? I can’t remember), and some of the other unique locations and activities.
I don’t remember other MMO’s doing so much as Arenanet did for events so I hope to see that continued in this game.

I don’t know about the Madd King because isn’t his tomb somewhere in the massive world we call Tyria? and wasn’t Dhuum confined to a part of Abaddons realm? I’m just really excited to see what Anet has in store :P

Yea, I remember the Costume Brawl and the mission they introduced! I’m also a bit curious to see if they’re bringing that weird “gambling” game back, the one where you stand in the rings and if you stand at the corners you get double points and things like that.
Hopefully a nice sexy human female skin.
Within reason. The last 2 MMOs I played had more days with holiday events than without. To me it quickly felt tiresome.
We will be able to visit the Mad King’s Manor.

If it doesn’t have a headless horsemans helmet that does a big “Huhahahahhaha” at the press of a button i won’t be impressed (dam i still remember getting the sever 1st on that bad boy).
Seriously though, i’m very interested to see what they do and i hope that there will be soulbound on pickup halloween armor drops (that don’t require gems etc),
Zarturo: Elemental – Desolation.
I’m really hoping for a different event taking place in every starting city, since surely every race would look at a holiday differently. And then having a grand fiesta in Lion’s Arch where the races come together.
Seriously the way ANet set their game up the possibilities are endless for this event.
Bobbing for Asura anyone?
Just saying, the way I see it is that a Halloween Event IS a content update. Sure it’s replay-ability will be that of the festivals timeframe, but it gives you something new to do while they can continue to work on more permanent content.
Either way, I’m stoked. :P
They have indicated that the Halloween will be a “festival”, and in November, they will release a content update.
This will be my first Anet holiday event. Hopefully they really wow me!
I am terribly excited to see what they roll out. I don’t think I was playing GW1 when they rolled a holiday event out. But the skuttlebutt around here seems to indicate that it was rather awesome.

What Fee-yeah-stuh!?
I’m going to that Fee-yay-stah now!
>_>
Anyway…
I’ve never been fond of the direction they took the Mad King as the game went on, as I honestly feel he was more interesting and fun as just “That random Halloween dude with the candyman servants”, but I guess that ship’s already sailed… :-/
Since they left the door open about the aftermath of some of the Halloween quests and the purpose of the Nameless Lich, I suppose the best thing would be to bite the bullet and finish that plotline off. The Nameless Lich in particular was something I would expect to see more come out of, but honestly with how the Risen have turned out and the presence of liches in their ranks, the intrigue there has kinda fizzled out as well. :-/
So in the end, while I know they’ll be expanding on the existing stuff, I’m hoping they throw in some new (and hopefully marginally-related at best) Halloween fun as well… Introduce some characters that can just be left as total mysteries. Not everything needs a comprehensive backstory or plot significance; simplicity and mystery can be much more compelling.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
There is more than just Halloween coming in October…What those things are? You’ll just have to wait and see, keep an eye on our website and blog for more information in the coming weeks.
Minister Cadecus holding a halloween party…I can see that happening. He even has the freaky floating statues in his front garden already.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
I hope it is like the GW1 festivals. They were epic .

I really didn’t like the time dependant quests in those festivals. Finales I can understand, but being an Aussie I often missed several of them

I’m not sure how you missed them they always ran for a full 24 hours.
I can’t wait to see what Arena Net has in store for Halloween It was always the best holiday in Guild Wars.
To participate in those events, will there be a level requirement? Or more like, they’ll take place in lower level areas so all can attend. Something like, in Queensdale, or something.

Arena Net love’s holidays and has always provided something for everyone. I wouldn’t worry
How about a tonic that transforms your character into an undead and allows you to do the male and/or female necro dance from gw1???
Inspiration is only as good as it’s interpreter

yep and hopefully the problems we had with the overflow servers at launch will not be as much of a problem when they do the Halloween events.

Makes undead in Orr ignore you unless attacked, for the duration of the event.
You know you want it.

Maybe they could even code it to do the dance animations with your character, that would be funny.

I’m excited for these events and things, I love this stuff! It really makes a game’s world feel real and having new and changing things to look forward to keeps it fun. Thanks!
