Halloween Update Anticipation [Merged]
How exciting, I love Halloween! New events sound awesome, and I’m crossing my fingers that there will be something pretty for my characters to wear aside from town clothes.
I think all of the content is going to be available after Halloween, since it is placed in a separate portion of the update from the information on the actual Halloween event. =]
Sanctum of Rall
“Quaggan’s a piwate! Yarr!” – “Pirate”
Of course the non Halloween portion will remain in the game. They want to keep players engaged, and attract new BLOOD~!
I am on the fence about these events. I really don’t know how I feel about my “fake world” emulating my “real world”.
Is it cool? I guess it is. But at the same time it’s also just so cookie-cutterish. The added content is nice, sure. But I can get this same thing in every MMO- … wait. Nope. Not every MMO. EVE Online never pulled this trick. Interesting…
Yeah. It’s a bit “lame” to just throw in a real world holiday. I’m grateful for the added content. I just wish it were original.
Can’t wait for all the decorations, costumes new mini-games, new dynamic events.I love Halloween.
“Something wicked this way comes”
Will froggy be there and Gaile Grey leading a conga line?

Considering Holloween has devolved into Proto-Chistmas season, it’s nice to get a dose of it, even if it’s just a virtual world. Also, EvE doesn’t care about anything but moon goo and loadout stats. You could delete all polygons and make every ship a flying image plane and the players wouldn’t care.

I’m assuming you never played GW1 and experienced GW1 festivals? Halloween and Wintersday (Christmas) have always been a big deal in GW1 and even have their own lore that blends them into GW1 (albeit Halloween is better blended in my opinion and the lore is more interesting).
Also, I don’t want to sound rude, but there are so many “invasions” of reality in GW2’s world and even GW1’s world that it kind of shocks me that one would complain about Halloween.
Trust me, if the GW2 festivals are anything like GW1, you’ll get over it and have a blast.

Regarding real world events in a fantasy world…well as long as it’s integrated in a good way?
Anyway, it’s a bit hypocritic to lament this. Because in GW you already have asian inspired culture, arabic inspired culture, aztec inspired culture and so on.
Fantasy worlds in themselves are just reflections of the real world.
I’m looking forward, myself, to seeing Mad Queen Malafide return. (She made a spectacular departure from the world of GW1 at Halloween 2010, with the promise that she’d return at Halloween in GW2. Note; This is a well-known GW1 player, not a NPC, who used to host a whole day’s worth of events at Lion’s Arch back in GW1 days. Her only drawback is that she can’t stand mesmers, and my main is a mesmer. I’ll have to attend on my warrior alt in case she shows up. :P )
will definitly check back in when that patch goes through. Hope its awsome.
I’m excited, I can’t wait to see what Anet has in store for us
Makeover credits.
That’s all I ask.
All I’m looking forward to is to see if they finally balance the kitten classes, fix elementalist bugs, fix dungeons, and fix Badge of Honor drop rates and rewards… I’m not playing until that, except to many check out the new scenery for halloween, the concept art looks amazing.
There seems to be a chest in the 3rd image! I hope this is a new place we can visit during one of the four acts mentioned.
I’m interested to see what that clocktower will end up being ingame. Judging by the design, and chest, I’d say it is a jumping puzzle.
I’m going to be honest and say, I hated the clock tower level in Mario 64, getting to the top was a nightmare. Please give me that nightmare back for Halloween, thanks.
Thorny Scrub – Thief
Desolation
I think the last image with the giant bonsai tree is also a jumping puzzle, where you have to climb the tree.
>Evon Gnashblade has stocked all new items at the Black Lion Trading Company, including Halloween costumes and new transforms that will allow you to play Costume Brawl with fellow costumed players.
inbe4 gem prices become 1g for 10 gems.

Am I the only one who is disappointed with this? Don’t get me wrong, I like events too, but why the hell did they have to break the Monthly Achievement list for this?
There are far better ways of doing things than breaking stuff that works just fine.
I’m glad to see a Halloween influence in Tyria. It’s always been my favorite time of year, and being an adult means it’s kinda creepy to trick-or-treat in the real world
I’m also happy that the monthly achievements don’t remain the exact same month-after-month. I appreciate the variety.
I do sympathize with people who don’t like Halloween though. I mean, I get tired of Christmas-themed events pretty quickly, but ya gotta take the bad with the good and find places to play that aren’t overly-decorated or whatever.

Are the new jumping puzzles, events, bosses, etc… only going to be available during the Halloween festival, or will those specific things remain even after the holiday passes? I’m mostly interested in the jumping puzzles, I hope they aren’t available for only a week
Well:
Tyria Evolving
The world continues to evolve with new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps.
I’m pretty sure these are lasting additions being planned. The Tyria Evolving part feels like it implies just that. It’s the first of many to come.
Something Wicked This Way Comes…
Great little reference to the Halloween-ish Ray Bradbury story/movie.
amg ive not done all the vanilla ones yet! lol
Tis only what you can do for all
All of the additions in this Shadow of the Mad King release except for the Halloween holiday stuff itself will permanently stay in the game, yes.
If you want to catch the Halloween stuff, you’re going to want to make sure you’re here for the holiday festival! It comes in acts, so check in on a regular basis over the course of the week after the release goes live!
I wondered, apart from that haloween website extension. Are there any list of things specificaly that will be added in this ‘expansion’?
JUst curious!
Lion’s Arch is gonna look wicked!! You guys (ANet) did an awesome job with the GW city decorations, but I suspect GW2’s will exceed those by bunches.
I don’t know if it was because Halloween was the first holiday event for GW in ‘05 or simply because it was so cool, but it was always my favorite ’special event,’ so I’m looking forward to this. The permanent additions should be great too.
The new events, bosses, and mini-dungeons are included in the Shadow of Mad King release, same thing goes for everything on that page!
These new things aren’t just for level 80s are they? I must admit I’ve been extra busy IRL and not able to level to 80 yet. Plus I’ve been jumping back and forth between characters instead of focusing on leveling one. I’m going to have another busy work week next week (yay 12 hour workdays) so I can’t get to 80 in time for Oct 22nd. So I’m hoping these things are fun things for all levels. Don’t want to miss out on them…
I wasn’t sure where to put this but basically I was thinking about how I’m a little disappointed with the available headgears, as they are all very practical and serious, but not very charming.
This reminded me about festival hats, so with halloween around the corner, I just wanted to say I would like to see some festival hats in this game.
What I would like specifically is for them to be transmutable by default, like the HoM skins, and also for the “hat guy” to come back like in gw1, so we can get infinite access to our unlocked festival hats for all characters on our account, again like the HoM guy.So, what do others think about festival hats, or what else would you like to see as part of the festival this october?
Costumes need to be able to be worn over/instead of your normal armor look. Then more people would buy them. Add in a costume NPC so that storage isn’t an issue and you won’t lose the money you spent on a costume through accidental deletion and Anet would have a gold mine for costume sales.
Currently they’re rather a letdown in their implementation.
I’d suggest a toggle added to each costume part similar to the check box on head and shoulder gear. If checked then that piece is displayed instead of the corresponding armor piece. If none are checked then the clothes are only shown if you switch to the town clothing setup like you do now.
Been nipping at the bit every since Arenanet teased the first content update a few weeks ago. Just read the promo for Mad King/Halloween update.
Yes!!!! I am so excited about this first content update. Thanks Arenanet for coming out so fast with what looks like an interesting and fun extension of the game. Here’s to hoping that the marketing reflects the actual experience.
What do u guys think the new events/mini dungeons/jumping puzzles will be? what theme and where in the world? and also, anyone willing to guess what the “adventure” will be?
I’m bracing myself for some sort of a pumpkin gathering Event.
I can already imagine them Centaurs rushing in to stop us from stealing “their superior” harvest of pumpkins.
“For the Tamini!”
I hope I’m not indirectly giving ideas to the devs here
Seeing the hype behind Halloween really makes me wonder what we can see for the Dragon Festival and Talk Like a Pirate Day! (Come on, LA in GW2 is THE pirate town!)
I want a cinderella costume!! complete with glass slippers and a fancy tiara!!
Pumpkin heads – or make me the headless rider … look at me, I’m on a … where is my horse?
Ghost mystery tonic … or does that exist already?
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
FYI, those of you interested in the thriller dance. It was in GW, it was the necro dance. There’s youtube vids around of them doing it in synch.
@Rouven ghostly tonics drop in AC but are like 30c in the TP
Thanks Cancer – then I shall prefer to hold my head in my hand

Bosses… does that refer to more world bosses?

I never get tired of that video with gwen prancing around while flames destroy everything in sight.
I’m looking forward to hearing good ‘ole Mad King Thorn’s shiver inducing :cough: jokes. Based on those concept pics it looks like they really outdid themselves for this event. It’s too bad I’m so busy next week, but I’m definitely going to check it out when I have time! Costume Brawl sounds like it’ll be fun too.

I have met Mad Queen Malafide. She lives on Sanctum of Rall.
Quite the delightful creature, she regales me with tales of her dead husband.
ANet if you release a little red riding hood costume for my Ellie I promise to give you my soul!
I want a headgear cosmetic skin that actually removes your head, making you… headless :p then all we need is a horse…

I know right? Could be a wooden horse stick!

I just wanted to clarify a couple of things regarding Costume Brawl and some concerns we’ve seen:
- It may be called ‘Costume Brawl’, but it’s not like the Costume Brawl in the original Guild Wars.
- While it does take advantage of Gem Store related items, players will still be able to participate in Costume Brawl even without spending gems.
As a teaser: think Boxing Gloves, but taken up a few more notches.
We will have more details about Costume Brawl soon, so stay tuned!

OOOh im pumped, Arena Net is coming through.
Any chance we can get the glimpse of the size of the expansion? Would it be rather ‘three new events, one jumping puzzle’ or some new area?
I’m getting a….stay tuned…vibe from all these red posts.

It comes out in 5 days. Just be patient. :p
I wouldn’t anticipate a new area though, this isn’t an expansion, rather a content update. As such it’s much more likely to be additions to existing areas.
Is it oct 22nd yet?
