Well If any of you read the news….Hurricane Sandy is heading to the East Coast of the US. I happen to live there….the storm is supposed to rain a lot, snow a lot, possibly kill some people, and cut power. Supposed to hit me around Monday night. Will I be missing any Halloween events or not?

(pm’d to a couple of community team members, but figured I’d post to cover my bases)
Greetings,
I know this is looking ahead a tad, but will you guys consider extending the Halloween event given the unprecedented hurricane predicted to hit the north east? If it hits as expected, a large percentage of your US customers could be without power and miss the awesome conclusion! Yes, I speak as one of those customers likely to be impacted.
Thanks (and stay safe everyone!)
We’ll be in the dark as well. =(
Sadly, although we have a generator, our local ISP does not. So…even though we can power our computers, we have no internet until power is restored.
We’re day 2 into the rain bands and strong winds and still have power. It’s all good in Florida!
Sadly, as much as having this thing come by, my worries are more on being prepared and dealing with the outages than the event. Sure I may miss some of it, but I rather make sure my boyfriend and furbabies are safe. It’s afterall just a video game. And yes I’m in the path as well, last year I was without power for a week due to Irene. I just hope this passes quickly and we can recover fast from it.
Well, yes – homes and lives are obviously more important in the grand scheme of things. I don’t think asking for an event extension, on game forum no less, somehow suggests otherwise. I have a wife, two daughters, and “furbabies” myself, so I’m certainly not minimizing the real life hardships many of us may face post-storm. However, the GW crew can’t put a guardian boon around our homes, but they can extend the event a week.
If they can’t, they can’t. Doesn’t hurt to ask. It’s something I and my 5-year-old could look forward to when we’re huddling in the dark praying a tree doesn’t fall through our roof.

Yeah but what about when the northeast is hit with the addition of snow?
I understand you not wanting to miss the event. But this really isn’t going to affect the majority of their playerbase, so I do not see the need to extend the event. While it sucks, it’s just how things are. I hope you and your family and any one else affected by it are safe and we all have a speedy recovery. Overall, extending the holiday a week over this seems silly. Not trying to be mean or insensitive to the upcoming Hurricane. (like I said, I’ll be affected as well.)
I’m not sure if you’re trying to troll me, or what, but you do realize up to 16 states are predicted to lose power, right? And several of those states hold a large percentage of the country’s population. I’m really not sure how extending the event would hurt you, but it may be a nice gesture to a large part of the player base who could miss out.
Personally, I hope this is one of those weatherman “busts” and this thing just floats out to sea harmlessly making this thread a moot point entirely.
Yes, it’s just a game. No an extension is not going to save lives, repair homes, or save businesses, but this is a GW forum so I feel like talking about GW instead of the run on bottled water at the local markets. I won’t give it a second thought if they say, “no”, but on a GW forum, I don’t see the harm in asking.

Gee, someone doesn’t agree and they are accused of trolling, just love how the internet has progressed over the years. I’m not trolling you, but I just don’t agree with them extending the event is all. Sure no harm in asking, I’m just voicing my opinion. And I doubt the majority of their playerbase is in those states alone, this game is world wide.
And trust me I’m looking forward to finishing this event as much as you. I just feel if I miss out due to mother nature, then oh well, there is always next year.
They should definitely do something if there’s mass power outages. Some of these storms have been no joke the past few years. And the northeast is very heavily populated so no it’s not a small amount of people.
Just wondering, now that it looks like a large portion of players along the east coast will be unable to play without power if this storm is as bad as predicted, will you consider pushing back the one-time event on Sunday if power and data centers are lost? How about the length of the entire event, or the phases? Is there any possibility that they can have timers adjusted to account for current weather conditions?
News organizations are predicting several days without power for many eastern states. Many towns are evacuating. Gonna be difficult for many players to see this one-time event and will potentially miss out on several days of the event. What is ArenaNet’s stance on this issue?
I think a lot of us are going to get impacted by the Hurricane in a few days.
Right now…the final Act will fall when the North East will be hit by Hurricane Sandy and many will lose power.
Will Arena Net extend the event say till Nov 5th (at least a week since power might take that long at least to restore) or something similar due to the potential power outages many of us will face?
Please consider this.
week i you better pray to god your alive after a hurricane, before you worry about a stupid event.
ps if you not in a normal hurricane zone you have little hope of wide spread hurricane damge to fixed in a week.
pss invest in MREs and water while you can.

Seriously? You’re worrying about a game when a HURRICANE is about to hit you?
When large parts of NA or Europe were hit by natural disasters/black outs during the time of GW1, ArenaNet has at time repeated events for a week. It doesn’t always happen though. Currently I wouldn’t be surprised if they extended the event for a few days simply because the event to spawn the doors has bugged out on some servers and people are unable to get into the Mad King’s Realm as a result.
Seriously? You’re worrying about a game when a HURRICANE is about to hit you?
I could get into a mangling car wreck and die days before that hurricane hits- so should I just go ahead and stop thinking about GW2 ahead of time and get to worrying about that instead?
For a lot of us there isn’t much we can do to prepare for the hurricane except buy a few supplies and hunker down and wait. What would be the point of fretting over the hurricane, then?
I feel it is bad policy to force changes to the rest of the world that plays this game for something that happens in a small area on the scale of things.

Lucky, then, that you aren’t in charge >_>

protip: dont stop stressing untill after the 25mph sustained winds pass. before then trees can still be uprooted. deadly deadly trees

there is always a next year.
ps: i live in nyc. so this is not a post to piss you off. God bless the east coast.
ANet have in the past extended events or done repeats of events when large parts of the player base were hit with natural disasters. Why would the rest of you complain about that? More time to play event content for you, more time to get halloweens goodies and more time to enjoy the events :|
I just think its funny how “natural disasters” are hyped when they affect the northeast. If NYC gets 6 inches if snow it’s national headline news. Where I live, 6 inches of snow means get up early and get out the snowblower so you’re not late for work. LOL
I’m not saying a hurricane isn’t a big deal. But if it was possible for a hurricane to hit Nebraska, for example, it would be a 5 second mention halfway through the news, maybe.

Yeah, it would tyrannical to have someone in charge who displayed consistency and followed a production and release schedule.
Hurricane Sandy is going to gobsmack us on the north east coast of the USA this Sunday. Many of us may not be able to make the opening because we won’t even have power, and might not for the rest of Halloween.
Does ArenaNet have any plans for east coast players unable to attend?
(And yes, I’m aware that a substantial part of the fanbase is in Europe and that they’re often inconvenienced by event timing as well. If I had my druthers, I’d do something for them if calamity hit as well.)
Go Sandy go! If NE US net goes down, then you’ll all get to feel like the rest of us who are in Asia/Australia and got screwed over by Anet not doing any foreplanning and deciding it to run it on a Sun/Mon day instead of a Sat/Sun day.
I do think cheering on a natural disaster is more than a little tasteless, regardless of reasoning.
Cheering on a Hurricane that could threaten the lives of people over discontent about a video game is saddening. Even as dark humor I find it in poor taste. ;/
I’m gonna try to get on anyway. Never had a hurricane or an ice storm stop me from anything… not even camping.
Hurricane Sandy is headed right for me, actually. It’s a bit more serious than simply losing my internet connection.
Natural disasters happen everywhere. The West Coast you got Earthquakes, The Midlands you got Tornadoes, The East Coast you get Hurricanes. If you do not like the area because of the Natural Disasters in that area you can always move. People do not need to complain when one happens in there area. If you know you live on a flood plain…don’t go complaining when your house gets flooded one year.
@Araushnee —Thanks. I really hope there isn’t an argument. I mean absolute no disrespect to others in other nations or timezones who are also sometimes inconvenienced for various reasons. Several of my best friends live in the oceanic timezone, and I’d ask on their behalf as well if they were in our shoes.
@Slark — Hurricane Sandy is unique in that it’s headed straight for areas that have never seen hurricanes head-on.

I’m going to be hit by Hurricane Sandy, no real worries about missing the event here. Everyone is freaking out about a minor hurricane.
Slark: It’s dumb to tell people they’re free to move. Because people really aren’t.
As far Sandy, I can barely see it on the radar, but we’ll see how it brews over the next couple of days.
I feel it is bad policy to force changes to the rest of the world that plays this game for something that happens in a small area on the scale of things.
Lucky, then, that you aren’t in charge >_>

After Sandy does her damage game or not why dont you go door to door and tell everyone whose lives are affected that they are just something small in the overall scale of things……………………. JERK
Cheering on a disaster does sounds awfully inconsiderate…
That said, acts of [insert deity here] are yet another reason why it is a bad idea to hold an online holiday event only once.
Is the Super Bowl held multiple days? How about World Series game 7? Perhaps this years’s BCS National Championship? No, they are not.
I see nothing wrong with holding an event once – get over yourselves. Want a replay? I’m sure someone will have a video of the event on YouTube.
Im dont know about everyone else , but im betting everything i got on the hurricane , i hear this act3 got a weak punch.
Off-topic somewhat, but I just wanted to wish everyone affected by the hurricane a safe week. It’s not funny to joke about any threat to life and property, especially, as someone said, when it’s in an area that isn’t used to hurricane activity.
I just think it’s dumb to ruin everyone’s fun…? Just my opinion. There are people outside of the world who won’t be getting rain today
The number affected by power outages vs the number of players in the game…..
The self entitlement generation – <rollseyes>could they please extend any future event whenever I get a power outage…. my ISP flips… and if my computer dies stop the game till I get a new one…. Blast I forgot about work that seriously interrupts my ability to play… please make events at weekends only and not the 3rd weekend in the month. </rollseyes>
Please extend, I live in Maryland, and the last tropical storm Irene lost us our power for a week. And now I’m scared I will lose power again.
In case you haven’t heard there is a huge storm that will hit the 5th most populated metropolis in the world. The entire north east could lose power. I myself live in the center of NJ, directly where its going to hit so I will without question be without power.
So this causes a problem: Act 4 on October 31st, 1 day only event. I don’t exactly know what it entails or what the reward is but there is a great chance alot of people will not be able to participate, because of no power or internet. Please extend act 4!
I love how you’re more worried about missing the halloween event than the hurricane itself xD
well Hurricane Irene was supposed to be bad and we didn’t even get flooded….
and I’ve farther from the water
Haha, I love this post for several reasons. Main one being: " the storm is supposed to rain a lot, snow a lot, possibly kill some people, and cut power.
Yet the question is asked if you’d miss anything on Monday. Anyway to answer your question, I don’t think so. Though don’t take my word on it.
Act 3 – Starts later on today
Act 4 – Starts the 31st.
I’m in the same boat. I live in VA and its gonna hit sometime at noon monday and last a few days. Its a given that we will lose power for who knows how long, so i may or may not be able to do act 4.
I was thinking that yesterday myself. I forget the estimated outages that were reported or at lest expected. Though sadly I doubt it’ll e extended, also I get the feeling someone will come in here and be like stop QQ’ing. Or say something stupid like that’s what you get for living there… xP
Yes. Personally I’m not worried about missing the special event.
I’m worried about missing the finale, due to loss of power. I REALLY don’t want to miss that.
And before you make the comment about how I’m worried more about the game than the hurricane… I live on a barrier island on the south shore of long island, I’m freaking out with worry that our house isn’t washed away or our stuff ruined in the storm surge. I’m just trying to distract myself just a little with this.
I actually support this. I live in Europe and haven’t had any huge storms in my lifetime. But seeing as act 4 lasts for only a day and Frankenstorm just happens to be a kitten and hit around halloween, I could see most of the northeast not being able to complete act 4. It’d be a pity if a LOT of people wouldn’t be able to complete it just because nature decided to join in on halloween..
