I'll never be able to get the new skins. It is not fair.
thekemp, the problem with your reasoning is that the only way to get into the chests is with keys purchased from the BLTC. Keys can also be acquired through regular game play and there will always be people who get lucky and end up getting skins on their first or second box. Not everyone is going to choose to use those skins and they’ll end up on the BLTC.
There are also going to be crafters who will make the weapons after the event is over. If you really want the skins, you can get them without spending a dime. It just requires more effort, which is something people don’t want to hear.
The even just started, so saying that people aren’t going to get anything is ridiculous.
Second, GW2 isn’t based on acquiring skins. You’re thinking of Pokemon. There is no advantage to looking different except looking different. If you WANT to look different you have two choices. Choice A is to spend money to buy what you want. Choice B is to spend gold to buy what you want.
You’re buying aesthetics in GW2. There is no advantage from spending cash except for convenience.
Are you serious? This game is all about skins, just as gw1 was, the only thing you got right in all this is that this game isnt about advantages because unlike wow or other games where there are stat differences, but thats exactly it, our progress is defined by skins.
While the skins for this event isnt a necessity, at the same time I disagree with the BLC drop rate, agreeing with this or letting this go will only set the game in a direction and thats not something I hope to see where every holiday/event’s premiere items are set up in ridiculous chances/prices.
I’m tired to see fanatic white knighting everywhere because in the end its only people like this that stay in the game while my original friendlist which are the more casual players or guild barely log in anymore due to the high standard anet set for these things, gw1 made you grind in events for things and that was ok, they took it up a notch in gw2 and I simply cant agree with that.
Are YOU serious? I was under the impression that this game was about PvE and PvP, not collecting different skins for your gear.
Your goals (collecting skins) are not the same goals as everyone else. Some people play the game for, you know, fun.

But the additional effort isn’t in anyway related to Halloween, at all, which is the entire point of this patch.
You could spend a month farming, being bored out of your mind trying to get this one skin, then a month later the Christmas patch is out and its exactly the same deal again.
The keys you receive from map completion and personal story are nowhere near enough to receive a skin, baring in mind most people who got keys have already used them before the event, so unless you can 1-80 and 100% a character before Halloween is over, that’s no real use to anyone.
There will also be those people who will pay hundreds and not receive a skin. This method isn’t really “fair” as much as i dislike using that word. It’s not fair.
As i said previously, the recipe skins are outrageous and are out of the reach of a regular player.
Gift of Souls: 250 Oricalchum Ingots | 20 Globs of Ecto | 100 Destroyer Lodestones | 1 Gift of Knowledge . That’s one of the prereq recipes.

I’m pretty certain he’s serious, PvE and PvP reward skins, every dungeon has its own skins, WvW has skins, sPvP has skins, We even have legendary skins for those willing to go the extra mile. skins are this games only “carrot”, if you will.
Playing the game is obviously fun, Getting rewarded for playing well is also fun.
Which reiterates my original point, Gambling isnt fun. at least not when the odds are stacked.
nldixon.8514Nobody is forcing you to buy lottery tickets every day are they? So why do you feel like you have to buy keys in order to get what you want? You could, you know, spend some time crafting, farming or grinding get the exact same results. It just takes longer, but there is a guaranteed chance that you will eventually get what you want.
/facepalm
1. It’s not lottery, it’s a mmo game
2. FACTS : thousands of $$$$ have been wasted for N O T H I N G, i agree that the “super-rare” skin should be rare, and a chance is a chance, but so much money for not even a freaking candy or something related to halloween ? Seriously what kind of game is this.
3. Why would arenanet kitten off their best paying customers and lose all credibility to them ? What kind of business move is that rofl…
Every end game super rare things are based on freaking gambling in gw2(mystic forge, Buy2Win chests), again what kind of game is this.
And no, it’s not that optional : the entire game is based on skins.

I like how people say it’s not a big deal. It IS a big deal for some people. Some people like the ability to enjoy the event and all that comes with it. Instead people are feeling a bit cheated.
Yes we will all get something at the end of the event. That’s awesome for sure. But seriously take a look at what this looks like to people who really wanted to enjoy having something they can show off ALL year round if they wanted to. “They can say hey look I was here for the first Halloween event!”
Instead it looks like a money grab. Arenanet knew that people were gonna want the skins they also knew that people weren’t gonna have the keys and were going to go buy them. Its an event up the kitten drop rate for kittens sake. It comes once a year…. it doesn’t have to be A HUGE increase but 1 out of every 20 or so chests is not to much to ask. Instead it’s a gamble.

(1) Yes, it is an mmo, and amazingly, it’s still an mmo even if you don’t get the silly rare skins for your weapons.
(2) Technically, people are likely getting tonics, boosters, black lion salvage kits/axes/mining picks/etc, maybe even a few are getting the skins. They aren’t spending money for NOTHING. They just aren’t getting what they want. There is a difference. Also, we’ve already agreed it’s an mmo, to further clarify, it’s an mmoRPG. :P
(3) This is the stupidest thing I have EVER seen. Ever. Honestly, the only reason to get the skins is because you /want/ them. You don’t need them, they do nothing for you statswise.
They are an OPTIONAL appearance modifier. Not necessary in any way to play the game.

I was rather under the impression that’s what the free devil horn hat was for, seeing as the weapons will likely be back next year. And the year after. And so on.
Whereas like in GW1, the hat will probably be different each year.
Well, I’m done!
You guys don’t get it.

Well it depends how you define playing the game, if we didn’t want or attempt to do anything that was optional, nobody would step out of queensdale or spvp.
And it’s not so much that it’s optional as much as it is the way they implemented it. Gambling shouldn’t be a part of a game with this standard of development. It’s an archaic form of monetisation, as i said previously. the fact it’s rare isn’t a problem at all, it’s because it’s a rare drop from an already expensive gem store item. Suddenly having a few more attempts at getting your wanted item is the equivalent cost of an actual lottery ticket, instead of a few minutes gathering some other theoretically miscellaneous item which could be exchanged for boxes/tickets/whatever.
Actually, i looked it up, and assuming the droprate is between 1-2%, perhaps lower. you have a higher chance of winning the lottery with 3 numbers and getting £10 back then you do of getting one of these weapons.
Well, I’m done!
You guys don’t get it.
I get what you mean, completely.
I just think this method of monetisation is silly, archaic and immoral.
Spent 30 bucks on keys to open my chests before I knew just how bad the drop rate was. Leftover gems went towards gold for my in-game wallet.
Got nothing.
So I stopped.
But then I decided to see what 20 or so pieces of candy corn ran in the TP. Quite a fair about of silver, understandably, given the current circumstances.
So I began to farm those. I sold them apart from trick or treat bags as the bags sell much higher in groups (as they yield the chance for a rare halloween mat).
I paid attention the Skin prices in the TP. They’ve done nothing but go down FYI, since this event started.
I hit about 15g. I noticed that the Ghastly Grinning shield (my baby) was going for about 23g (the lowest I’ve seen it go since).
Spent about 20 real world dollars for that extra boost as I had to act quickly.
Now I have the shield.
Add that to the 20 or so repair kits I found (a money saver for those roflstomp dungeon runs), the 3 black lion express, the 10 fine T-mute stones, the 3 Black lion salvage kits and the karma, magic, XP, and speed boosters to help my main farm Orr and I’d say it’s 50 bucks well spent.
I’m now working towards that rifle which is sitting at only about 3.5g so a little patience is all I need for that since there’s still a week left.
I just want people to understand that if you stop, realize you simply got unlucky, analyze the situation and realize how you can tackle it otherwise, it’s not so bad. Not at all.
As for the MF weapons. That shortbow is sick and that certainly will be a fun goal to obtain. But it’s one I know won’t happen this week. But there is always next year.
This stuff isn’t going away guys.
Patience is all you need to enjoy the spoils of halloween.
Orichalcum is 3 silver each. There are 5 nodes in 3 areas, each bearing 3 ores – that’s 1 gold 35 silver. You’ll have 10 gold in 8 days. If you have another level 80 character, you’ll have it in 4 days. If you have 4 level 80 characters, you can make it in 2 days provided you’re willing to spend the time just mining. This is by far the easiest way to earn money, as all you have to do is get a character to level 80 and equip the character with semi-decent gear (Masterwork everything sells for a silver each in auction).
People make the mistake of thinking they’re poor without taking their collectible inventory into account, which probably comprises the bulk of their wealth. If you remember how much you are really worth, then you’ll get even richer as you’ll be comfortable with identifying assets you don’t need and liquidating them where appropriate, which is the first step towards farming for a profit. Good luck.
I gotta admit, I expect things like this from Korean F2P MMOs. This is a little ridiculous. Instead of a fun event for new, experienced and casual players alike they’ve pretty much turned it into an event where you have to pay 50 bucks just to get in the door.
Ykfox.3825(2) Technically, people are likely getting tonics, boosters, black lion salvage kits/axes/mining picks/etc, maybe even a few are getting the skins. They aren’t spending money for NOTHING.
Bad faith is obvious, thanks for the good laugh xD
And btw, i don’t care about these chests, i don’t want them. All i think is that this gambling method that arenanet loves so much is real poison for this game.
They need to satisfy their customers, not frustrate them. Healthy Business has to be win-win, don’t you get that ?Of course i’m not saying that rare skins should be easy to get, NO. But the mystic forge toilet and these scamloween real money gambling chests are nowhere good.
Search for “skin” in the black lion trading post. Look at the prices. Over the course of the halloween event, these will drop precipitously. Even now, almost all of these so-called rare skins are less than the price of one craftable exotic weapon. None of them are anywhere near the cost of a legendary precursor, or even the cost in materials of the craftable halloween items.
There are so many people playing this game that even the low drop rate from the chests is enough to saturate the market to reasonable prices. If it was much more, these skins would probably be going for 50 silver each, and then everyone would have them – which would be pretty bad for the investors. They’re not crazy expensive for the most part, and they’re not so inexpensive that people aiming to sell them from the start would feel cheated.
Hahaha, This is nothing. You guys want to see a customer & fanbase exploding with complaints. Go play Diablo 3 for a while and get off this forum.
Welcome the the Buy-To-Play game model. Don’t like it? At least they arn’t charging you $15 USD a month to play. You got your $60 worth, Anything else they do, You either have to pay, Or work your butt off to get it.
“But its not fair to have a holiday where I have to work 24/7 to get the item.” — Who said you had to get the item? That’s a choice. One you have to make. Don’t like the cost. Then please. Leave now and spare us the time it takes to read these posts.
Also, All these items (Excluding the chest specific ones) can be crafted year around, Just spend a couple hours farming and you will be fine. My guild, With minimal effort has farmed almost enough items to make 20 of these craftable weapons. And we aren’t that large of a guild.
So please, Everyone get off your entitlement horses and go complain to Blizzard or EA about your problems.

Woah…settle down. No one is comparing GW2 to that steaming horse pile, Diablo 3. :P

I was more or less comparing the community reaction. Not the games themselves. I agree that D3 doesn’t even come close to the bar Guild Wars 2 has set, That, And they are vastly different games. But again, Was more or less comparing the reactions, Not the games.
@FallenAdvent I tip my hat to you sir!
I can tell almost no one played guild wars 1 because if they had they would realize how dumb they are for kittening about “PAY TO WIN OMFGWTF”. This is exactly like guild wars, you pay ten bucks and get a costume for the event. Hell this is better because if you work at it you don’t need to buy it with real money! You getting mad because A-Net gave you a chance of getting the items for nothing? Would it make you feel better if they hadn’t? You people are outraged over something that they have been doing for a long time. If you want it that bad, buy it. Don’t sit of the forms and kitten. If you cant handle that then gtfo.
it is optional. no one is forcing you.
zexion.5842I was seriously hoping crafting would let me obtain the new skins. Sadly no, you can only craft the 3 vendor skins and the price to craft them is ASTRONOMICAL.
Gift of ascalon? 250 obsidian ingots? I might as well save that for a legendary!
What are the other choices? Black lion chests. Well the drop rate of the new skins is horribly low. People have gone through 200 chests and not seen one!. To even open the chests I need the keys which can be obtained threw drops which is again LOW LOW LOW or I can (you guessed it) buy them for real cash.
I am NOT wasting all my money on 200 keys to get 1 new skin. That is outrageous.
But wait? You can buy the skins from other players! Well they cost 10g a pop.
I am not very good at making money, I also buy things with money like different sets of gear/runes/sigils for different builds. I have 2g in my name. I can’t afford a one time weapon skin for 10g. I could buy a gift formula for the legendary for 10g.
Seriously Anet? From the looks of it its just you wanting players to buy gems with their money so they can buy keys to almost having no shot at getting the new skins. Who knew for a holiday event the only efficient way to get the holiday items is to spend my cash on 200 keys?
I gotta admit, I expect things like this from Korean F2P MMOs. This is a little ridiculous. Instead of a fun event for new, experienced and casual players alike they’ve pretty much turned it into an event where you have to pay 50 bucks just to get in the door.
I mean, if you center your whole enjoyment of the holiday around acquiring halloween themed skins and dropping real world money on the gems to exchange for gold because you’re impatient and don’t want to spend a few days raising the dough yourself……sure. I can see how one might see it that way.

Oh I know all about D3 and the cluster kitten it is lol. This coming from someone who managed to make a ton of money selling my gear before I quit all together lol.
