All the NPCs should be marked with a giant candy corn icon on your map, check with them.

You should see a giant pumpkin head on your map, where the central fountain is.

And once I left the circle on the map I lost the item I was apparently supposed to be using to do whatever she wanted.

Could this quest be any more vague?

I left the main lobby of Lion’s Arch and now I can’t even use the item she said to search with.

You can either mine it throughout Tyria like all the other nodes (copper, etc), or you can find haunted doors (also throughout Tyria) that halloween related baddies pour out of, and collect drops in the for of trick or treat bags that contain candy corn.

I would suggest to start in Queensdale.

How is the internet the only option for figuring this out? She gives you CLEAR instructions on what you need to do. Not only that, but the item itself states the requirements to use it.

You need to have more patience when trying to find the ghosts and be sure that you’re using the right type of scan for each particular ghost.

well NPC instruction was bit confusing.
I couldn’t figured out how to gain candy corn for an hour, because I was looking around vendors, not realizing I was supposed to farm outside of Lion’s Arch.

By the way, my meter get deactivated when I go inside water. is it normal?

I had no problem using the item to scan next to the NPC as instructed in the mail you get — it all made perfect sense to me. Of course, I logged on in Dredgehaunt Cliffs standing right next to a Candy Corn node, so I already had some and knew where to get them.
