Does anyone know if this will be how all events work?
I know you typically get 1 free hat item.

But will we always have to spend money to open boxes with bad chance drops and have to fight clusterkitten mobs for Christmas doors and stuff like that in the future?

Or have to hunt for elusive festive items to be able to craft them?

And will holiday costumes always be limited to towns clothes?

Hopefully they learned a lot from this event about how to handle luck based drops. The rest of the event is fine imo.

Also will be there be an almost complete lack of introduction or direction in the future?

There are pros and cons to the events for sure. I liked the quest where I had to find the pages for the book. I like my witch costume. I love the candy corn nodes and the IDEA of the trick-or-treat doors. But mostly everything leaves much to be desired, and I was incredibly excited for this event. I am still stoked for the next acts but I don’t see what they can do to make this drop rate thing any better.

Exactly. I would love them to elaborate on what there is to do, who to talk to, etc. to get things rolling. If I hadn’t already been in Lion’s Arch I would have never known to talk to the Asura to start hunting for book pages. After you talk to them and begin the quest you get a mail item that gives you the candy meter and it says “Show Me” at the bottom of the message. Clicking the icon brings you to the map and it shows a circle right where you already are.

They could have sent an introductory mail with that “Show Me” icon BEFOREHAND to show you where to start the festivities. That’s all I’m sayin’.
