Mad King Dungeon Griefing
I accidentally did this at the end of one of my (many) runs, because I forgot that when the person who started leaves, everyone else is kicked. I’m really not used to that because previous games I’ve played just pass “leader” to one of the people who are left. It very much was not on purpose, and I’d imagine most people don’t know they’ve done it.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
This is unfortunate. I believe ANet is looking into a leader migration fix for the future. There’s no incentive for the leader to kick everyone as he doesn’t get a hand in their loot at all. Could’ve been a disconnect, or a real scumbag
Yep. It’s not some magic exploit tho, party leaders can kick members, that’s standard grouping mechanic.
People did it in the “regular” dungeons as well, but since I don’t really bother with those I never had it happen to me.
On the 2nd run of Ascend the Madness tho, sure thing, I’m grouped with 3 members from the same guild and right before we finish the final part of the Mad King us other 2 are kicked from the group.
It appears that it’s primarily guild people who this, so they can get other people to do the work, then kick you and invite their fellow guild members to come grab the no effort loot.
Really wish I remembered the names of those people so I could add them to my ignore list, but they were smart enough not to say a word in party chat, so no way to look up their names.
If you leave party as the leader, everyone gets the boot. I’ve had party leaders leave the instance and not get the boot as long as they were still in party. If people are actually kicking people out of party at the end, that’s just pure horrid behavior.
happened to me last two times i ran this, is becoming prevalent and is disgusting.
I solo’d it so have not had this trouble, but reading this thread actually puts me off wanting to group with randoms, i’d be quite annoyed if i had just spent all that time only to be kicked before i get any rewards.
Yeah I’ve done a couple groups where everyone leaves and you get booted. Missed the chest a couple of times because of this. You shouldn’t be auto-booted if the party breaks up in a instance. :/

In other MMOs you can’t kick party members once they’ve entered a dungeon to avoid exactly this type of behavior.
Hmmm…I thought something was strange after MK was defeated, I was making my way over towards the chest then…loading screen. This really needs to be looked into.
Brute The Beast {80 Charr Warrior}
Dodge The Builder {70 Asura Engineer}
That’s a terrible design flaw.
BTW-The only way you can kick a party member requires a vote (and frequently that option is bugged anyway).
This is why you should only dungeon run with guild members, very very little risk of this occuring especially since our guild is full and no one would risk the chance of being kicked out. :P
It’s not happened to me in this dungeon, but I have seen it happen in others. How can you “tell” if someone is the leader? I would be afraid that I was the leader and didn’t know it. Many times I invite someone at the same time they invite me, so I am never sure who is who. In GW1 is was whoever was at the top, but here, your PC is always at the top.
Actually just had this happen in a group where I know the leader didn’t leave. We just got booted. Was still in a group when we got out, 3 of us. Just got booted as soon as one person left.
Maybe there is something broken with instance partying in general?
This is why it’s always a good idea to have a Mesmer in your group to offer portals for easier, and less problematic runs.
Idea is to have the mesmer advance ahead of time when the boss is close to porting, then once MK spawns you port the entire party to the next battlegrounds.
I’ve lost out on a chest or two ’cause of this. Bummer.
Not saying griefing doesn’t exist like this because it does. But what if there are people out there who form groups, but are unaware of their consequences by leaving the party? Like they didn’t know it would boot the rest of their party.
I think some people still like to play the game solo, but in some situations like the MK dungeon, they feel forced to party and look for a way to leave the party as soon as it’s “over”.
But yeah, Anet should address this whether it’s griefing or accidental. Just seems really unfair for the others.
I think if the leader who opens the instance leaves before anyone else does, the instance kicks everyone else out. This has happened to me a few times and when I mentioned it in mumble chat to the person who was leading, he was unaware of this. So he came back and helped reset the instance, and even tho we had done it before, we did it again.
This time he waited until we finished looting before asking…“are you all finished?” before we left the instance.
But, I really think the “leadership” should automatically pass to one of those left behind. Only problem with that would be the party now being short members and if I recall correctly, the instance kicks you out because of this shortage.
