Might Need to Clarify This from now On
Lol, I did the exact same thing, except I wasted 10 keys. I saw the advertisement in the TP, commenced to buy keys and open up chests, then realized later after not getting anything halloween related that the content hadn’t been implemented yet…. I won’t make that mistake again, it sucks, somewhat disappointed.
Just a little tip for the future. If your game doesn’t d/l and install an update prior to ANY event, don’t expect stuff from the event to be available. Common sense really.
I think the fact that nothing has halloween decoration yet should give it away…
I’m not the only one who uses this computer to play the game.
If there was an update I’d have no way of knowing.
no way of knowing? the lack of halloween decorations around the city wasnt enough of a sign to you?
Who ever said I was in the city?
Common sense must not be that common. No pumpkins around anywhere? No patch downloaded? Then the event has not started.
Even here. The page has not revealed any secrets yet.

Vegas, not everyone watches their game update, I sure don’t. Anyways lesson learned, don’t take Trading Post advertisements at face value.

If the stuff isn’t available ingame yet then don’t have it advertised on the ingame gem store!.
Common sense works both ways
Zarturo: Elemental – Desolation.

On you again bud. This is a relatively new game, there will be issues, player beware. But yeah, look around for some halloween decorations if in doubt (and you should always be).
Here’s another money saving tip… when the Christmas event comes along, make sure you see Christmas decorations before doing anything, ah… ‘Christmasy’.

Except my version of common sense leads to caution. Yours leads to loss because you saw a shiny (i.e., not common sense). So it doesn’t work exactly the same way.

I might be mistaken, but this is the first GW2 event? Not really much experience to go on. And as it has been said before, not everyone was in a city upon log-in.

It does, but your opinion leads you to believe otherwise.
Not every game requires a new build for holiday content.
I hate to mention That Other Game, but… really. World of Warcraft holiday events just… happen. You don’t need to exit the game and restart, just one minute it’s not live and then it is live. Poof!
It’s not beyond the scope of reason to think that just maybe this game works the same.
Now I know from my experience in GW1 that a build is the most probable way to update things. But I also wouldn’t criticize someone for not realizing that no build = no holiday loot.
Screenshot of the black lion chest halloween update in the gem store please, as I still see the one that’s been there for about 3 weeks (or more) that looks nothing too halloweeny.
EDIT: GW2 trolled me, I see the image now…
Yep all good, it fooled me, I’m not really even mad, but I find it funny for people who didn’t make the mistake to basically tell others who did, that they have no reason to have thought the patch had been applied and the chests had been updated to possibly award Halloween content.
id like to point out that on the advert on the website it clearly says the chests wont be available till the 23 pst. Since its still the 22nd id hold off on opening chests.
So I know the event should hit today…yay
Log in…yay
purchase $20 USD in gems. And use those for 15 keys
And I start opening looking for the weapon skins. NONE contained a single one. I find out from my guild its not implemented yet… Even the Market advertisement is showing the skins (in the gem store)
I’m not asking for a refund, or going to whine about how the system took advantage of me. But I know I’m not the only one who’s sore about this.
It’s things that this that are likely to make me think twice about buying gems in the future.
Well if you don’t ask for a refund you’re an idiot. ANets player support is understaffed and slow, but they do a good job taking care of the players, and since in this particular situation it is their fault you were given false notice they’ll likely help you out, but not if you don’t ask. Quit playing the victim and take action.
Just to be clear, people were snookered by this because the BLTC is running an adverstisement for keys that clearly shows new Halloween items. I know at least a couple other people that opened chests tonight once they saw the BLTC update with the new image. They were excited to (possibly) be among the first people to get the weapon skins.
Here is the graphic for anyone who may have missed it:

And yet the date of your post says the 23rd.
I feel bad for you. You took something on faith and got screwed. But I would have asked because that’s the nature of online games.
Only reason I didnt go buy anything b.c LA didnt show any signs of an update to it. Hense why I check the forums prior else Id be a little “derrr” also..
(I’ll either find a way or make one)

Haha this same thing is going to happen on Christmas and everyone is going to whine again. Really, where has all common sense gone?
I’m….losing….sanity
“The Black Lion Chest is getting a spooky upgrade for Halloween. Between October 23 and November 5 each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!”
Reading is hard.
I’m sure glad I didn’t even think to check the gemstore until it was obvious Halloween had officially begun ;D
Sounds like you were eager and wanted to start Halloween a little early.
