Neither ArenaNet nor your credit card/debit card company are going to refund the money that you spent. You willingly spent the money. ArenaNet didn’t defraud or scam you. You got exactly what you paid for. Your credit card/debit card company will tell you the exact same thing.

honestly, all that money spent on the keys could have been spent on getting gold to get the one you want. since they are not all that insanely priced, worse being the greatsaw at 28g or something, plus the favorable increase in gem to gold ratio all you’d need is about 20-30 dollars.

or less if you’re not going for either the scythe, shield, or greatsaw.

I imagine they inferred that your intention to get a refund means you are done with the game. When done via credit card, they close your GW2 account, as has been stated in a number of threads on the Account subforum. I rather doubt you’ll get any sort of refund that will not lock it.

I see, so you weren’t talking about getting a refund for the game, but a refund on the money you used to purchase gems, which you used to purchase keys, which you used to unlock boxes that contained exactly what they were supposed to contain, but not what you had hoped they would contain?

Having worked for a credit card company in the past, I can tell you that you won’t get a refund unless Arenanet decides that the amount involved isn’t worth fighting over or you’re such a big spender with your card that the credit card company decides to eat the loss to make you happy.

So that’s the best MMO ever made… Free to play, no tier of access, no stat boosting gear etc. the whole model works on the idea that players will spend the odd bit of money here and there. A bank slot, vanity item whatever.

The point is that it’s not some sneaky conspiracy to get your money, game companies need to make money to keep the game going, new content coming and to pay the bills. For anyone who has bothered to watch the game being developed or read interviews these people while wanting to succeed financially, clearly do care about the gamers who play it and making it better.

Things like stopping sales so they could get more servers in place tell me they also care about the customer experience. I’m not rich but will happily spend £10/15 a month if I see something I like or need a new bah slot etc.

Anyways I am still confused as to why ANet didn’t just make them available via direct gem purchase like every other skin on the TP. Probably would have made more money and have less of a headache listening to people getting upset over it.

No offense here but 1. you bought the gems 2. you bought the keys. At that point their end of the transaction is over. You knew beforehand you were gambling, getting that skin was not guaranteed.

If you get your money back through your card company you are actually scamming a.net by not paying them for the service they provided, a service you specifically requested namely a gamble. It would be only logical to permaban your account due to fraudulent transactions.

If you really wanted the skin and not the gamble, you should have bought it of the AH or buy a non-gamble skin such as the mad king outfit. You can’t blame the casino for not winning the jackpot…..

So if this ticked you off enough to quit the game, sure get your money back, scam the company and get your account banned. If you want to continue playing you should realize at no point did they give you false promises.

Halloween in Gw2 is the most realistic out of any game I have played , just a waste of money like IRL.

I wish the good stuff was more about the skill. Dedication is fine too but luck is just unfair.

I spent $50. I’ve worked for various companies and I’ve learned all the tricks to getting your way with credit card companies. Most of which would probably have my game account locked but like I said before, this isn’t the only game I play. On top of this I play WoW, EVE, Mechwarrior Online, Minecraft, Tera, Planetside 2, LoL, FFXI, Diablo 3, Starcraft II and many more lol.

I’m sure this has been noticed by others but I was unable to use killstreak boosts..and frankly I have a lot of them and they are kinda useless imo :-\

I think a lot of people that spend 100 dollars on keys, just to gamble, then get pissed when they do not win something they want… need to learn not to gamble.

Do I think the event was handled properly? No, but even after reading how low the drop rates were, people are still dumping 100s of dollars and turning around to complain they lost the lotto.

Please get your facts straight. You are trying to screw over Anet by demanding a refund due to your entitlement attitude. Honestly no company wants your business with the attitude you’ve shown here.

Add to this that if you don’t win this “gamble” you don’t really get your moneys worth and you have an issue in a game like this.

Just think, there’s still three Acts left, and all of this backlash is just from the first one.

(Edited to clarify that I’m on the side of people who think you’re responsible for the money you willingly spent of your own accord. ANet stated there was a chance, and you gambled. That’s your fault, and it’s immoral to buy an item (a key), use said item (on a chest), then threaten/attempt to get a refund on an item you already used just because you didn’t like the outcome.)

Good riddance. Have you even paid any attention to the endgame philosophy? Did you really think these kitten skins were going to drop like flies considering every other skin in the game is a huge grind and has a huge random chance component?

Maybe next time wait a few days to see how things are panning out before gambling $50 on a vanity item that you could have gotten cheaper off the TP.

Yes the first batch of people opening didn’t realize… every single person afterwards should have known by that point and thus made a very conscious choice to take the gamble on getting something good, and are now kittening along with the ones who didn’t realize the drop rate. Although I didn’t buy keys, from other mmo’s and from GW1 I knew the drop rate was going to be low. It’s not a huge leap in the mental process to go from, it doesn’t state the skins are guaranteed to drop to it most likely is going to be a rare skin with low drop rate. At least for me it isn’t. Mind that’s how I approach all non guaranteed items.

There were clues everywhere from the lack of items on the TP (less than 60 of any of the more desirable skins last I checked), to people complaining in game and posting all over this forum.

People knew it was a gamble yet still could not control their impulses because they thought “one more, I’ll get lucky with one more chest”.

I bought £30 worth of gems yesterday and bought two keys, I got nothing out of my chests and made the decision to save my gems for a better deal later down the line.

This is what I call being intelligent with my money and having a bit of restraint; all the people complaining could learn a valuable lesson from my example.

Exactly! For me the fun is in exploring Halloween-decorated LA, doing Halloween events, the book hunt. The chance of getting freebies from bags and chests is a mere bonus. I think gaming communities have gotten to a point where they think if they complain loudly enough and often enough, the companies/developers will cater to their every whim. It’s happened to another game just recently (it rhymes with “president weevil mix”, in case you’re wondering), and I don’t think that kind of behavior makes any game better.

@Yoshihito If I understand this correct, you purchased Gems with Cash correct? In that case, you got exactly what you paid for. You then made a choice to use the in-game currency to purchase the in game items for a chance at another, in game item. As far as claiming for a refund from your credit company/Anet, you got exactly what you paid for, Gems.
I also spent cash on gems and I also didn’t get any sort of skin, just the usual BL Tools/tonics etc, yet I got what I paid for. The Gems.

account ban? this is fraud, like with checks, this is a federal level crime and you can be punished to the full extent of the law for it if Anet chooses to go after you for this. and bragging about it on their forums won’t exactly help your case.

in any case every thing else has all ready been said, this is pretty much your own fault.
you purchased the gems, they were delivered, you purchased Keys, the were delivered.
the keys opened chests like they were suppose to and you received the items you gambled for.

also I really don’t get these people going on posting about how anet doesn’t care about their customers. to compensate a lot of these people, who spent money on BLKs the put out the mad king chest so you could get a free chest for every 2 you opened, the fact that the costumes and weapon skins are the only thing they charged for, they also added 4 act holiday event quests, which could possibly have some sort of reward even possibly a weapon skin at the end. just after quest 1 we got a unique back skin item. a free gem shop hat (free hats they have all ways done) they added a holliday DE and mining resource, and a small content patch fort the game. there are also weapon skins you can get in game if you put forward the effort for it.

personally I would love to some of the skins, but my luck wasn’t there either. I didn’t cry about it. even if people have these cool looking skins that doesn’t make them any better at the game, or mean they have better gear, just makes them lucky.

@Tyrick: In real life you don’t “gamble for money” either, you convert your money into casino chips and then you gamble for chips. In most casinos chips can also be used to buy goods in the casino like drinks

The only difference is Gems can’t be converted back into real money. But otherwise they are functionally identical as chips.

It means it’s a VERY fine line between anet operating a gambling operation.

It’s a gamble. I experienced that feeling in few previous mmo before so I know how you feel. It isn’t a healthy addiction.

55 BLC is 4950 gems.
You could’ve converted it to 30 gold.
30 gold can buy one great chain saw skin or 2-3 other halloween skins from the TP.

The devs must improve on their misc items from BLC because the other drops aren’t worth it at all.

No i’m saying a lot of peple didn’t realise that unless you got a rare skin the chests are pretty much worthless.

Getting a rare skin should be a bonus on top if your lucky enough to t get 1. It shouldn’t be a case of getting basically nothing or getting a skin – it should be getting your moneys worth with a chance to get a skin.

I’ll say this again – i do not mind not getting a skin (they should be rare), however i do mind that what i got from the chests as standard was not worth the costs involved.
