IKR. What’s the purpose of an event if you don’t get any rewards? Where’s the fun and excitement?

Memoire questline was fun, the brawl is okay….but the lack of rewards is disappointing. The shield and staff you can craft is probably the most disappointing in this event, the shortbow looks awesome. I play as a warrior and i don’t really have any use for a shortbow.

someone seems to have a short attention span…..or I wasn’t informed act 1 really meant 1-4

I think halloween event was “okay”. It’s not that I need events – I usually prefer to have no events because the game already should be enough fun to play without the events. Also events usually make you play the game a lot during event time – even if you don’t have that much time you need to force yourself to play if you don’t want to miss stuff.

Unfortunatle that’s how it works for a lot of player. Some psychological effects… that make us want to complete everything. A bit annoying sometimes.

But I think it was a bit fun to collect that candy corn and to the Scavenger Hunt. Also the achievemets seem completable. This is enough for me and I don’t need to start whining.

Costume Brawl seems okay… not that much fun as Keg Brawl. But that achievement is at another tab and probably completable later. So I just don’t worry about it now.

And the skins and crafting stuff… there is enough other stuff in the game. As long as there is no achievement that I “must” get(because I want everything) it is fine for me. Don’t like halloween looking stuff that much and I think I can just get other skins that look much better and fit better in a fantasy world.

I just got the buyable recipes for karma here to make my recipe list bigger and maybe I try to get one of the expensive recipes where you need to buy elonian wine and 100 crafing mats… but not crafting it or getting the other stuff(especially not the discoverable stuff… would need too much time and mats).

And not buying anything from gem store. Costumes: There will be other ones looking better in the future… Only thing that could be interesting: The minis if they are not going to return next year halloween and you want to fill all the slots in your bank but that might be impossible… I think there were other exclusive ones at that last tab you can’t get and only some special persons get.

So you’re going to make fraudulent credit card chargebacks because you didn’t get an item you wanted in your RNG chests? Seriously?

No-one “screwed you over” but yourself. You received exactly what you purchased and you have no-one to blame but yourself if you overspent on random chance items.

Seriously moderators, what kind of way of sorting out your forums is this?

Some of these discussions were interesting, they weren’t all handling the same aspects.

Merging them is basically the saem as closing them altogether.

This is the biggest and most insulting inteference of a moderator I have seen on these forums so far.

Before merging, READ the threads. See what discusion has it’s own value and which does not.
Some,of these discusions really deserved their own thread and title.
By merging you made it impossible to seperate the healthy arguments from the flaming and blaming.

Shouldn’t moderators have the ability to make distinctions between discusions?

Skins are optional. You’re not entitled to owning one.

While I agree that after opening so many the odds should be in your favor, all in all this game is heavily based on RNG, and you can’t change that.

With that said, if you’re basing your entire experience off the skins, then I guess what has been offered isn’t for you. I’ve personally been satisfied with the effort put into changing the appearance of LA, on top of being able to rack in a few more achievement points and with that, we’re still only on Act 1 of the whole thing.

I was kind of disappointed that getting a skin seems so hard, but I’m over it.

Hah , i found the opposite , the short bow looks plain bad , the bad moon looks good and the crossing is the most amazing staff in the game.

As the OP of an ex-thread about the Mad-King-Chests and how they negatively affected early-players I also feel ran over by the merging of everything. I also saw a few other threads that had completely different topics that only slightly touched the MKC’s and they got merged in here.

I understand they didn’t want 100 threads about the same topic…but merging 100 threads with DIFFERENT aspects of one topic derails ANY discussion but what the vast majority (which is obviously all the Q.Q’ers) wants to talk about.

My suggestion to the devs is to make the BLC other loots to be worth the money.

There was one mmo I once played which has RNG gambling with real money too. They handled it better. No one complaint for not receiving the top prize. People spent hundreds who didn’t get the top prize but still feel satisfactory. The top prizes chances are less than 1% like this game too. However, the other loots from the boxes are really worth the money. They even partition it to top prizes, rare prizes, uncommon prizes and common prizes. Their common prizes doesn’t even make them feel punished.

In GW2, the non-prize loots in the chests feel like an extra baggage that reduces my bag slots (very punishing). Furthermore, those items have no solid use too (seriously node tools with 10 uses? extra boosters which is least demand?). It’s punishing instead of rewarding. This game is new which I understand. They can still work towards improvements dealing towards RNG with real money in the future.

Anywho. As a person who has no event skins, recipes, or anything beyond candy, tonics and a handful of crafting items…and who has not spent any real money on anything…All I have to say is, this event is really a lot of fun. Having a blast with the event content and am looking forward to the remaining acts. I’m also glad that for every complainer I see quite a few people who are enjoying themselves.

Almost. If YOU screw over a.net because they gave you exactly what you asked, they will ban you. That’s not screwing you over even more, it’s actually taking relevant action on fraudulent credit card transactions. They are running a business here and you shoplifting doesn’t help in that regard.

I should warn you for doing that too often. Your credit card can and will be flagged as fraudulent, you may get in quite some trouble if you keep asking money back for perfectly valid transactions. OK once work just fine and you have the right to do that. Doing such things too often will get your credit card revoked for good reason. Don’t forget that someone else is paying for the transactions you’re cancelling.

Merging a poll into all of these other threads (the tally)… that alone is beyond reason.

I feel ,particulary sorry for Senaph’s thread (the ‘entitlement’ thread.
That one had a very healthy and distinct discusion going. Both parties exchagend arguments in a really mature fashion.
Now all those ongoing back and forths, are spread all over this one, scattered among every flaming and every blaming post without reason.

I did not expect the moderators would go that far.

The front page had never ever been filled with one type of post alone.
There were many, but you could always see other posts on top as well.

At this point the forum looks all happy indeed, keeping it artificially filtered of the biggest critical views on the game or developpers.

And even though it is a sticky now, the title alone suggests it to be something else than what it is.

1. sell the chests
2. see the uproar
3. offer the Mad kings chests to make up
4. see the rise of renewed complaints
5. quickly merge all posts and sticky them to death where no one notices them

later they’ll be able to claim they set things right with the Mad King’s chests and point how the disapointed posts lestened after that…

They have effectively secured their myth of restoring the faith of their displeased customers.

While they did “try” to fix the situation, they deserve little to no credit seeing how they just took what everyone payed for and once again offered up a gamble without publishing the odds and turned what we all payed for into more useless crap.

I blew a lot of money for nothing, lesson learned. These guys wont get anything else from me, and I hope thats a lesson learned for them as well.

They realise they lost several customers who were willing to pay extra money thus far.
That loss is being calculated as we speak, i’m sure.

What they try to do now is limit the bigger potential loss: silence what could hurt the game’s reputation beyond the group of customers already displeased.

Yikes. While I agree the chests were handled badly by Anet, crying fraud seems a shade… extreme.

Yeah considering how many of us spent more in gems then the gold value of the item at this point using BLC and MKC. We all just wasted so much of our in game resource. By far my least favorite holiday event in any game so far.

lol..you will get your money now, and then Anet will rebutt it saying you purchased a service. They will show reports of what you purchased, and how you got it, your credit card company will refund the money and Anet wont lose a thing. This does nothing. There is no fraud here nor services not rendered, this is buyer’s remorse.

Yeah, in a casino you have to spend your money to have fun. In GW2 you don’t.

You bought a chance, if the credit card company was aware of what you were trying to refund they wouldn’t refund anything. That’s like calling them and saying:
“Hey, I went to Vegas this weekend and spend 6 grand trying to win millions but I lost. I asked the Casino for a refund and they kicked me out. Can I has my money from you instead??”

It’s fun! I haven’t spent any real money, but it’s incredible. I love it.

For the record, I haven’t spent a dime of real life or in-game currency on this, and it still left a sour taste in my mouth. It’s obvious now that any “cool” skins introduced are going straight to “legendary” status or the BLC toilet. So much for the end-game " starts at level 1" theory, huh?

I previously felt that spending in the Black Lion shop was perfectly fine, and supporting Anet, but now I see it just goes towards Legendaries and BLCs. So I will not be spending another penny there.

There may be 3 more acts left, but I will not be partaking of them. I will be playing another game that traditionally has excellent Halloween events, with items for everyone to collect, not just the super rich (in-game and out). That makes the event FUN. And fun is what I am after. So I will be playing that, and spending my money in their cash shop, since Halloween is my favorite holiday.

Just going to throw this out there: folks that paid for gems (I’m included in this lot — purchased gems for myself and my girlfriend) got their gems — that is what the money is spent on. From there, you can convert gems into other things, including keys. Forcing a refund because opening chests with keys didn’t pan out the way you had hoped is actually credit card fraud. Note that this is a serious offense. Also note that posting your intention to do so through questionable means is basically posting evidence that can be used against you if any legal dispute takes place.

ANet provided exactly what was paid for: gems. Just because you spent those on a lottery system that did not pan out for you does not equate to you being “wronged” or “defrauded” in any way. Had you used your money to buy a lottery ticket at a store and not won, is it reasonable to expect a refund?

Where/When have ArenaNet said that the other acts will have more rewards that doesn’t include buying gems for 100$?

I myself haven’t paid gems for this Halloween event because i know it’s a lottery, you have to either spend 20$ or 100$. If it was: pay 20$ get a unique skin. I would have bought it.

it’s a shame some gamers can’t just play the game for fun and enjoy the new atmosphere or side quests/distractions

if playing for a skin (through a gamble) is the only way for you to enjoy a special event update then…..i dunno man

don’t get me wrong, the skins are a great perk but there’s always next year or the next event.

do story mode, snag some keys and hope the next event drops something else for you which you can then show off

Here’s the dealio: I get why everyone is super upset, it was poor advertising, we get it. Are people honestly mad that they didn’t get a skin? Or are you mad that you wanted to cash in on a quick way to make a few gold in game? We all realize that the exchange rates aren’t the greatest on gems, and we all want those very valuable skins. I saw something that made me really sad earlier in this thread I believe, stating that a player just wants the gold so that he can get the best gear. Gear isn’t what this game is about, at least not on my server, its about being a community and having fun with each other. If you want the best armor, run dungeons with your friends, or don’t spend your money on silly items. I’ve never run into a group that gave me grief for my gear, I had run most of the dungeons before I even had level 80 armor, and I did well. Why? Because I took the time to find a build that I knew would work within a five man team and I make sure that group members know the role I’m going to play. They were completely correct in calling this a skill based game, not a gear based game. I’m really sorry for the lack of skins being produced from Black Lion’s Chests, but think about your motivations for why you’re mad, why do you want those skins so badly anyway? Are you actually going to keep the skin? Or are you going to sell it for a quick amount of gold just so you can get some better armor because you think that’s what makes the experience better. 100 % WRONG it’s been calculated to maximize : the number of unsatisfied customers which won’t make such an awful investment in the future.

They sold some poisonous gambling product (with “colorful” marketing words) that was programmed so 99% of their best paying customers would be unhappy.

Supportive players now have good reasons not to be supportive anymore.

If not do you think they should have and if they did where is it?

Opening BLC’s were/are a risk. I’m trying to grasp whether people are mad they took a risk and lost? Or that they didn’t realize it was a risk and feel screwed? I’ve done a lot of things in my life where I knew it was a risk and I never knew the percentage of possible success. When I failed guess who was solely to blame? It’s always the easier route to place the blame onto someone or something else, take the higher road people!

I was upset because because I didn’t get any skins/what I did get for real cash was entirely lacking. Just figured I’d chime in with the other people that felt the same way and warn any potential like-minded buyers.

IMO, what turned this into a real kittenstorm is the people coming in and in so many ways inferring that the people who paid X and expected Y were all morons. Very few posts have been people demanding their money back… it’s mostly just people logging a complaint. Then threads spin out of control when trolls and misguided fanbois try to marginalize these complaints and arguing ensues.

I kinda wished there was an odds calculation somewhere beforehand. If saw the reality of it, I’d probably would have held off opening all those chests and not get a single thing other than the usual stuff. In my mind, I thought..maybe I had a chance that 1 out of 50+ chests (personally, was higher than that) I would have gotten something. Sadly, my percentage was a flat 0 and plenty of disappointment. Has turned me off using the cash shop again.

The arguments seem to boil down to this. People feel cheated for the amount they spent, because we assumed it would be a better chance, and expected Anet to treat us as more than just an open wallet.

Then, the “white knights” (not sure how to phrase this, but not meant to be insulting) assume we wanted to simply sell them, they assume we all have gambling addiction, and they assume we have no self control. They assume we’re trying to tear their game to pieces. They assume we’re threatening legal action.

See how many assumptions and expectations there were? Ok, so let’s assume what they say happens when you assume is true. We’re all donkeys/mules at this point.

Lessons were learned. Feelings were hurt. People will support the game. People will not support the game. The sun will come up tomorrow. And the day after that. Oh blah dee, oh blah dah! Life goes on!! OH, Life goes on!!

Personally I find it funny ANet didnt just have a event tab on the TP and just have the skins for sale. I think this would have made for many more satisfied customers and probably more money.

The gem to gold conversion is pretty high right now actually. Also you’re pissed off that you didn’t get a “rare” skin? And this ruins the entire event for you?

If you honestly believe you’re entitled to a “rare” skin then I don’t know how to help you. Try enjoying the event for what it is. A fun enjoyable holiday. If you cannot do this, you’ve lost any sympathy from me.

As far as I can tell these holiday skins are the only skins in the game that are “limitied edition” meaning there is actually a limited supply atm.

@ rondo No, that’s a pretty good recounting of the reaction of some people on the forums. Cash store helps pay for content that I (and everyone else who doesn’t buy much) enjoy for free. Yet anyone who feels they wasted their money, the best customers who are essentially paying for the rest of us, are being castigated for being foolish enough to spend money. Better hope someone’s “foolish” enough to buy things in the future, folks, or expect your “free” stuff to taper off…

That’s not to say everyone complaining is being reasonable or rational. There are some who are being borderline insane. But the reasonable and the irrational are getting the same responses.

Maxxian.3980 – Anet has always had different items/costumes/hats for each Holiday event in GW1. They are simply following tradition. Every year you had a chance at getting those items (minus the costumes still could buy those through the store). The only difference I see now is that you have a chance at those items through other means (ie Gems-Keys-Opening BLC’s). To everyone that is an uproar, patience, the event still is playing out. If this event holds true to past GW1 events there will be a chance at the end of the event to turn in everything you’ve collected (that you don’t want) into a chance to obtain something that you do want. The only thing that was guaranteed was the Hat and that was only obtained by doing the final event. Also who wants a “rare” skin everyone else has?

1. You do complain in public, you have to take the risk that some other people find your complains silly, childish, unfair, excessive etc. and will state this in public too.
2. There are always at least to views present about everything. And your view isn’t always the correct one.

Gambling is fun and entertaining when done RESPONSIBLY. It is up to the players to be RESPONSIBLE and only gamble the amount they are willing to lose. Gambling is NOT an INVESTMENT. If gambling is not fun for you, then stay away from it and don’t try to ruin the fun for everyone else.
