Next Year's Halloween
“Check your inbox. Infractions for everyone!” – Oprah
I think something for them to think of next year is to give an idea of what level a player needs to be in order to easily access all of the Halloween content. There were a lot of players that were unhappy due to the fact they couldn’t finish the scavenger hunt on their own due to not being appropriately leveled. I do understand that this is the only portion of the Halloween event that could restrict players based on level, but at least knowing a couple weeks beforehand about any level based content would be nice for a lot of low level players.
True! I forgot, I was going to do the hunt on my engineer but quickly learned I couldn’t. I enjoyed it on my guardian. The rewards were pretty nice so I could see why a limit existed in the first place. (No actual limit but no low level will live in the Fen).

All Halloween content that mattered for the title was not level limited. This included MKR and MKCT. I do understand that lower levels would want the back piece though as there are like 3 of them in game, now 4.
I agree that scavenger hunt was not needed for any titles/achievements, but it’s not up to us what each player finds extremely important. There are a lot of players who find having that book back piece to be incredibly high priority while others just don’t care at all. I know we see the argument thrown around a lot that if these players wanted the book skin so badly, then why not take the time to level? There are just simply some people that can only invest a few hours during this whole event and for them that just isn’t feasible. Given Anet’s ability to do level scaling and design all portions of the game to support it, these players really shouldn’t be missing out on any part of a holiday event even if it’s just one part of it.
The book is also one of the very few guaranteed mementos you can get, which makes it all the more attractive.

A few hours should be more than adequate to get higher level bodyguards to escort you on the few harder spots.
Unless your server’s community really sucks
I sort of liked it not being a personalized instance.
In the beginning, during my first try’s, I was about starting to hate the JP not being a personalized instance. But when I managed to get further by every try, seeing the jumping crowd growing smaller and smaller the higher you get, I started to feel good about it.
I mean, we knew before the first try, that the tower will drive you mad (maybe that’s why the Mad King became mad!?). It’s all about competition. To be better than others. To get to the top.
I did the tower only once. But the feeling being the only one who has reached the top was indescribable great. Perhaps I’ll visit the top of the tower again today.

I hope they will make all those items we can get account bound and not soulbound.
And they really need to add the clock tower again next year. The design of that tower is just too awesome. I want to get that achievement next year! Argh! :D It would be nice if we could do the jp alone too. Let the people choose if they want to jump alone or with others.
Something else?…Hm…no, I think that’s all I wanted to say. I love the halloween event the way it is now :)
Firstly, I really enjoyed this year’s Halloween event. As for next year…
I think if some things were just slightly better explained that would be helpful. When all the doors suddenly disappeared during phase 3 I was confused about what I was supposed to do next. Thankfully, the community in this game is very helpful.
Also, the bugs. This is even more important during a limited time event.
And that kitten clock tower…..bring it back next year so I might finally conquer it.

OP pretty much nailed what I’d like to see next year. The Clocktower could become a Personal Instance instead.
I think however balancing the Realm for anybody bellow… I’d say 50, is difficult because a level 2 simply doesn’t have the traits. My Ele was level 7 when I started and quickly worked my way up to 19 however.
What bugs me the most is the amount of anti-melee. This goes for any MMO. So many knock backs or knock downs to give the illusion of challenge. Artificial Difficulty. Skeletons had their power shot and a kick, Candy Corns spammed their Candy Spike – you had to deal with so much knock backs it was a pain.
But with all that we were given and looking back at Guild Wars, I’m downright impressed and still in awe that this is not only the same universe but the same developers. It’s astounding and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Now I’m looking forward to Wintersday and what might be in store next.
EDIT: I would like to see the Mad King set get a reskin however. I know you want to keep the store-bought costume unique and that’s fine but players who collected the pieces in game should have gotten the same skin but with stats IMO.

Thats not entirely true. It is possible to even do it on a lvl 9 (thief, started at 6/7). You just have to know the safe path to the places. Only problem was getting to the boat in bloodtide, and getting into fen (fen itself was fairly easy, at least getting to the fort).
Though it is possible, they shouldn’t have made it so you have to go into that high a level area to complete a holiday event(or is it a quest?).
Other than a couple of the bugs, the cash shop only (and RNG), and legendary requirements for permanent holiday weapons, I wouldn’t mind even a redo of this years. Obviously I want new stuff next, but this one was fun enough that It woudn’t be that bad if it was the same all over again. Only main thing I want next year is some other way (holiday releated, like the scavanger hunt) to get all available holiday skins.
Please give us a keyring…
All in all i totaly loved this event, and was very impressed with how much work they have put into it. My only complain would be the clocktower puzzle, basicly i was a big screw u to all the small races, so next time please please please make it a personalized instance:)
I hate when I type in a long post and then it takes me to the login screen instead of posting it.
So here goes a short version of what I said:
I like OP’s suggestions.
Additional suggestions:
-Make players semi-transparent in clock tower.
-Start the event sooner (give us a week or two longer for it) Why? Because it is fun.
-Bring everything back again! I loved it all.
-Have an additional loot choice on the scavenger hunt so that those that have completed it have something new at the end. Have it repeatable so those that haven’t done it can get both of the loot choices.
-Have some easier way to get to the chest in the Mad King fight. Portal? Or have the fight always end on that platform.
All in all, it was a fun event.
Did they just do the same Halloween event year after year in GW1? I mean, as awesome as this Halloween event is; next year I’m hoping for something entirely new, though, I wouldn’t say no to this event being put on in early October for us to enjoy till a hopefully new Halloween event starts up on the 22nd again but that may be asking for too much.
1. I would understand if they did not just go and repeatedly create events for holidays. That is a lot of time and effort.
2. I think it’d be awesome if they did, but at the same time I would miss some of the events.
You guys touched upon a great point. Direction. I’d really ask for more direction, some sort of tip. Especially when you enter say Queensdale and the doors are missing. It’d be cool if you got mail explaining what you had to do for them to reopen so chat isn’t flooded.
And yes you could do the scavenger hunt at low levels but it’d be just so difficult I wouldn’t try. I made 5 attempts to get through a zone with mobs ten levels above mine and just got swarmed each time. Maybe have 3 scavenger hunts, one for low levels, mid levels, high levels. So the rewards aren’t OP crazy at low levels.
The chest is fine in Mad King Realm, but I agree that he should always end the fight there. It is just irksome to have to constantly waypoint back.
As far as scaling issues I do acknowledge the traits and stuff. I was level 1 when I began to do Lab runs. I’m now level 27 and each level things got more and more noticeably easier. Just is rough for low-lower middle levels to really do anything. Also on the topic of knockbacks I was a little annoyed at how easily juggled my guardian was. 3 of those large candy guys could keep you in the air for 1/2 your HP if you get caught in their knock back. Which you could dodge out of, I know, but if it happens you pay.
