Pleasant Surprise about the Mad King chests.
Agreed.
And yet people still complain about it…

Obviously, some people are just impossible to satisfy, honestly the game would be better without them. I’m amazed ANet even gave in to the complaints in the first place, since they weren’t a fair complaint in the first place. After this the people who complained have no right at all to do so again, really.
Some people just want to get stuff easily, but then they will complain that the skins are too common and worthless.
Oh yes. I was actually a bit freaked out that they’d increase the drop rate of the skins, which would’ve completely kittened me over, since I shelled out gold to just buy the skins off the TP.
Turns out I was only just a little bit kittened over, since they apparently added the ‘Recipe: Gift of X’ items to the Mad King Chests, which sucks for people like myself who bought and or Mystic Forged the recipes for 12-16 gold each.
I’m still content with what I have, though.
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
I’ve never complained skins were too easy to get. I never seen that as a common complaint. What are you all smoking?
People want to get into the festive spririt. They want to have halloween weapons, they want a weapon as a souvenir to say they were at this event, to use during the event, something cool and fun to have around. Most people don’t give a crap about mini-pets or costumes. Everyone uses weapons. Everything they’ve added along these lines is either a massive grind most casual players won’t be able to complete before the event is over (and then they need to work on Christmas grinds) or is locked away behind a cash shop RNG. You can’t even outright purchase them – to access this exclusive content you have to drop money/gold on keys and get very lucky.
There is nothing compassionate or considerate about the implementation of this RNG cash grab. The monetisation team is exploiting the player base as much as they can without truly taking steps to adequately amend the well founded concerns of players who want to have some of the coolest Halloween content in the game without having to gamble real money on a very greedy RNG.
If you can’t get that through your thick head, it’s clear you have so consideration or cares for the people who are upset about this. They don’t matter to you at all and you haven’t dedicated an ounce of empathy or consideration towards their concerns. The reality is, this RNG cash grab content is making the rich richer, catering exclusive content to the richest in the game and disappointing the vast majority of people who financially supported ArenaNet through this event in good faith that ArenaNet wouldn’t exploit their support without returning something of equal value.
There is a problem, whether you care about the people or not, when people financially supporting a company are never going to do it again because the return on that investment was an insult (which tonics and boosters are). Treat your customers well and give them what they want when they pay money for it is how a successful business runs (aside from casinos who exploit their customers).
I hope all the people complaining about the people upset by these atrocious drop rates will remember the whingers when they are enjoying that cool new jumping puzzle, playing through that new dungeon or swinging that shiny new great sword in the coming months. All that content which is “free” was paid for by the “whingers” who will not be paying for anything after this.
I’m not pleasantly surpirsed about the MKCs, i just had a look at what i got from mine.
For 30 boosters and 90 tonics i got 300 candy corns, 6 (yes 6) tonics and 30 crafting items.

So the counter arguments are
If they were easy to get, everyone would have them
I don’t see how this is a problem. In a game where it’s all about looks that is how it should be. Why should your kitten prevent me from enjoying something?
People just want stuff handed to them
The best looking skins in this event are directly handed to you assuming you’re lucky or rich, either ingame or in life. Whereas the craftable skins aren’t nearly as good looking but require far more effort to acquire. According to this argument the Mad Memories item should be more prestigious then the BLC skins because it at least requires you to leave the safety of LA for a few minutes.
@Shiren , very well said..
problem is they didnt even mask it..
make 50% bl key sale, add bl keys to drops,
sell more + happy customers
currently i feel they try to kill the playerbase xD
i really hope there is stuff to come,
because currently im also not happy with the results.
someone in chat said if they sell the weapons for $10
everyone is goin to wear them and diversity is lost..
i could see that happening unless not something even cooler is added.
however…
$1000 weapon skins (not stats/ no different skills)
money eating slot maschines.. i dont know.. maybe ncsoft fault?
still, very greedy and ruthless…
i dont see a reason for that…
if you need content creator, i have free time…

So much of this.
You may argue “Well, they won’t be rare and unique anymore”. Firs of all, they won’t be unique anyway, if more than 1 person has that skin. Second – people don’t care about rare or not. This is a common misconception about how a person treat a cosmetic stuff on their character – 89% don’t care if some other guy look better, or got an awesome sword if they see him ingame. All is important that their character looks good for themselves and fits their taste.
And company did exploit people, first misleading them with their advertisement (it’s slippery case on whatever you though they meant) and then stamping absurdly low chance to get any skin out of chest twice. I’ve got mine by some dumb luck, but I do get why people feel cheated for their money.

Yup, that’s just it. The game would be better off without people who were willing to give oodles of money to A.net. I’m sure less money will help make the game better for everyone.
I wouldn’t be so annoyed if what came out of the MKC was actully better than what i put in to make it (or even on par).
I mean i just don’t understand that at all. Anet know the things needed to make one, so one would assume it would be easy to at least make sure what you get out of one is at least as good as what you put in – with a chance of awesome (a skin) as an extra.

The mystic forge almost never gives you something equal to what you put in. They also really like using the forge like a garbage can, with a reward.

1. Your post is a bit manipulative, I did not say everyone having them would necessarily be a problem (but it would now that I think of it), I just said that if everyone had the items people would then be complaining about how everyone has the skin and how they feel they don’t stand out of the crowd. Trust me, I’ve made multiple posts foretelling what 2 possibilities can happen with ANet implementing Mad King Chests. And it went like this “1: The sore losers who didn’t get anything the first round and didn’t get anything the second round either will just comeback to QQ more on the forums. 2: If everyone gets the skins they wanted, the skins will not be unique anymore, thus people will come QQ about how they don’t feel unique/epic since everyone else has them.” And I was right. An easy example about the QQ of not feeling unique was when CoF was speedfarmable and everyone was in CoF exotics, so quite a few were QQing about how the CoF set sucks, since it’s not prestigeus anymore.
And to add to this, Arenanet would mess themselves up if ALL of the people who are out for the GreatSaw got it, since evidently that GS is the best looking GS after legendaries. Who will go spend time grinding for any GS other than legendaries? NO ONE And that’s bad for ANet. The less time people spend time with your game, the worse. You can’t argue with that.
2. That’s not true. A handful of people get the skin they want by luck yes, but most people who play SMART got what they wanted. I am not rich neither ingame, nor in RL, but I got all the skins I wanted out of my only 25g through the TP, because I was smart and I timed my buys right. That’s all it takes. See, arenanet doesn’t reward the rich. They reward dedicated players, and players who play the game right, and that’s how it’s supposed to be. +1 to ANet
