Release time Halloween ?
23rd for Europe? Probably be after midnight GMT then. Which is good for me
The email blast that went out earlier is quite correct. Due to differences with timezones the event starts past midnight (this evening) for European players, the event starts worldwide at the same time. Obviously this means that it will run until the 2nd of November (again due to timezone differences).
Maybe post the information from the email here or on twitter? This is leading to a lot of confusion clearly.. And your post still doesn’t give us the time that the event will start.
This sounds exactly how the events during the beta rolled out as well 8am on a working day the final event happened. Will this be the same for the final events during other events? I hope not cause I would be missing out on events in the future that I wish to have been part of and in such a way a big downer to me. It’ll be very annoying if this’ll be the case over and over again and will reduce my motivation to play at least if at all then. It’s tiring when you’re not able to enjoy events with friends and have some fun stuff to talk about once in awhile.
Woot, there’s a Anet post in this topic!
Anti-woot, it doesn’t give a patch ETA.
lol
or wait, was “this evening” an ETA? and was it for EU or the server’s timezone?
confused

Anet, please could you be a bit clearer with the dates and times for other regions instead of giving US information all the time.
All the information should be “x date, x time PST / x date, x time GMT” at least.
Long term it would be nice if you could split US & EU services completely the way Blizzard do, though I appreciate that might be too much expense and work at the moment.
I also really hope there won’t be time sensitive Halloween events that are on at ridiculous times for EU players because they’re done to suit the US. The beta weekend events ended at 8am on a Monday so most of us were unable to see them.
For us not in the US can we get an ETA on when patch launches..? like a specific time.
+1 for 3v3 or 2v2 deathmatch
Well at least we know now.So we can get on with polishing our pumpkins until everything gets thorny.
I think Aidan was saying it starts at midnight GMT in Europe. Which is like 8pm EST, 5pm PST.

21h GMT+1 is event time in GW1, so it could be same in GW2
The latest dev tweet says:
ACT 1 of the “Shadow of the Mad King” update will go live late this afternoon (Pacific time), do not expect it until past midnight GMT. ^AT
Starting things at midnight GMT makes some sense, if you have to set a standard global time for something to happen. That of course is no consolation for our European colleagues, who will be safely abed when Mad King Thorn rouses himself.
(Midnight GMT is also when the daily achievements roll over, btw, so there’s precedent for them to do this patch at that time.)

Hmm, that would be noon EST, and I think that means, 1pm EDT
Can’t believe they will shutdown the servers for maintenance for the update @ Primetime EU :s
wait, no that’s PST, not EST, my bad (somehow my ability to edit seems to have disappeared temperarily)

You obviously haven’t played GW much…
They have the best record for the shortest downtimes of ANY MMO in history. Don’t quote my exact number but in 6 years of GW1 their servers were down for 39 mins total over the entire life of the game.
I don’t think your precious primetime will be effected haha
Kind of annoying there is a big tagline on the main site “Coming 22nd October” which is now obviously proved to be untrue. Little respect for your non-American customers maybe?
And is it just me or did anyone else not get emails?
are you actually surprised? someone has to bite the dusk. Its generally EU. I see no issue with it
Did anyone figure out the time yet?
10/22/12 midnight PST has already passed.

This is a joke right? EU is so much more favored in this game its not even funny. Us in the American time zones get a lovely little dungeon reset right in the middle (or start for PDT) of prime time forcing you to wait to run dungeons.
This event will run the same amount of hours regardless of the exact moment it starts. Get over it.

EU is favoured, I assume because it has a larger player base here.
What time is Midnight GMT in the UK? Time zones confuse me constantly

While you have a valid point on downtime your number is slightly off. It’s around 32hours, from the old official FAQ.
Guild Wars 2 should expect to have the same amount of down time that Guild Wars 1 has had (which is about 32 hours total give or take a few)
That said I believe that was before the emergency mait they had to perform a few months ago which would add up to another 24 hours mait. Still an amazing statistic.
So correct me if I’m wrong, the event starts on the 23rd for EU players not the 22nd as Anet advertised?
“After several hours I’m still swinging this sword with1 lodestone drop”
@ Lewis Burnell Midnight GMT is just midnight in the UK on normal time. Since we’re in daylight savings time at the moment it would be 1am.
Oh, and don’t forget that we (aka the EU) will go back to standard time again this weekend (and the US isn’t, they’re lazy again :P)
Excuse me, but what’s the logic behind starting the event in the late evening in America while in Europe it’s night/early morning (said by someone living in GMT+3 zone)? Isn’t in better to launch the event in the early afternoon (it would last till the night for sure, enough time for american players) and let european players do this event in the (fairly early) evening?

I play Guild Wars since beta so almost 8 years
I know Guild Wars 1 didn’t had downtimes for updates , but Guild Wars 2 had always had 1 hour maintenances for each update.

Yes, I wonder why they stepped away from their “it starts at noon ANet time” schedule…
Patches always happen around noon Pacific time, I’m not sure why people are expecting something different this time.

The patch is happening at 5pm Pacific time.
1500 EST would be my guess since some holiday events start a noon PST.

Thanks Anet, lets screw the EU players.

The dev response says the email is correct, but the email says “October 22.” Also, it apparently hasn’t started yet, and won’t until tonight(?). So the email is not correct.
@arabeth
I got an email saying “From 23 October until 2 November (European dates), Halloween goes off the rails, and you’re exactly the right person to fix it.”
You must have the US email. Sometimes I get EU email, sometimes US email, sometimes one of each :S
They can launch the patch at 11:59 PM tonight, and technically it would still be correct, since it’s still the 22nd.
@Orissa.1872
Agreed, it would have been much better for more (not all, just more) people if it had been set to release around 5 hours earlier, this way it’s at 12pm Pacific and and 8pm GMT (even 1pm/9pm or perhaps 2pm/10pm would have been decent).
That’s much better than 5pm Pacific and and 1am GMT.

Again, in every other situation (Dungeon reset, Daily reset) the American player base gets screwed. You get screwed like 5 times a year for events, we get screwed everyday… stop complaining.

Are all of you new to Guild Wars? Almost all events do not trigger until NOON PST. I.E. Not for 6 hours or so yet, this has been Anets standard since they are a Pacific Coast USA company, they have always used PST as the time for their servers. I was going to be excited if it was updated while I slept last night, but I knew it wasnt going to be the case. Just nut up and wait. Go to work, school, sleep whatever. It’s gonna be there eventually. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many threads on this and it seems like nobody came from Guild Wars 1.

@devi – Have you not read the thread?, the patch isn’t releasing at noon PST (which would have been 8pm GMT), it’s getting released at 5pm PST (which is 1am GMT).
Zarturo: Elemental – Desolation.
The timing isn’t screwing anyone, or rather it’s screwing everyone evenly. Since the events will presumably end at the same time, NA players in the western timezones will be screwed out of most of the last day of the event because of working hours. So yeah NA players have a little extra time at the beginning while EU peeps have to sleep, but that time is made up and everything evens out.
Part of the problem is the way the official times get quoted. Why is it so hard to acknowledge the European playerbase and just quote the times when quoting the American time?
Can we please stop with the “I’m getting screwed” comments? What are we, 12? There’s no way to launch content where 100% of everyone, everywhere, can enjoy it evenly all the time.
what kind of holiday starts at 5 in the afternoon? Why say it starts on the 22nd when by the time the patch rolls out it’ll be 8 for me and the day will be virtually gone. That’s silly.
Can we please stop with the “I’m getting screwed” comments? What are we, 12? There’s no way to launch content where 100% of everyone, everywhere, can enjoy it evenly all the time.
The biggest problem is that we’ve had a few weeks of hype about an event starting on the 22nd. Nowhere on the site has it said (until now) that it’s only starting at 1am (or later) on the 23rd for EU players. Everyone was expecting it this evening.
I certainly hope this won’t happen. In every game that has split services I see the community crying for some connection between the two. Maybe you don’t spend as much time in the Internet as others and don’t have friends all around the globe. If you did you’d be in the situation that you want to be able play with friends from all over the world without having to bring up a huge time or money investment. (2nd char on an US server if you’re from Europe in WoW. Having to play tons of matches in LoL do be competitive with your friends on another server.) Also events are less fun if you don’t have the possibility to be with the first to witness them. If I can’t be the first to witness an event (without having two accounts on two servers) it loses a lot of spice to me.
In GW1 they repeated the major events once every 3 hours for 24 hours. So every region would have them (more or less) simultaneously while still everyone has the chance to catch an event at their time-window. I agree that those 7/8am beta-end events on Monday mornings were horrible for Europeans though.
Can we please stop with the “I’m getting screwed” comments? What are we, 12? There’s no way to launch content where 100% of everyone, everywhere, can enjoy it evenly all the time.
They could of been smarter though and satisfied most of the player base and released 4-5hrs earlier.
