Scapegoat for noobs.
I think it’s a little inconsiderate to put it in that way because you can’t possibly SEE where you’re going if other player models are occupying your space (Norn, Charr or any other player model for that matter).
You lose sense of your spatial distance from objects and your awareness shifts (not to mention your focus is also slightly off) at best, you’re just ‘feeling it out’ which is more based upon intuition and guesswork than actual ‘skills’.
However, if you can do the mad king’s clock tower blindfolded than you have my respect and admiration hahaha
To better implement a timed jumping puzzle of this nature – it would have been awesome if they included a ‘hide other player models’ option for the mad king’s tower (this is just an idea)
Commander @ Tarnished Coast
The norn or charr were not more distracting to me than the other models, as I don’t look at my character when doing the jumping puzzle. I focus on my camera point of view I found out. However, people running in front of you who fall down or being chased by others did distract me a lot at times. I would like the option to hide other player models.
I think the best solution would be to render the other players as ghosts or spiders.
Not only would it eliminate the differences between the races and allow players so see the actual jumping puzzle and their own character (instead of a wall of fat charr / norn characters), but it would also make it a lot funnier – running up the tower while being chased by a mob of bouncing plastic spiders.
Maybe next year.
P.S. – Anyone who says that having a lot of huge characters on top of you (or on top of the platforms you’re trying to reach) makes no difference should be forced to spend the next 6 months surrounded by a mob of maximum-size charr in bright pink armor.
It’s really not that hard, I done it first try, easy as can be once you know how.
Take shortcuts, be the fastest, get out of their way a little, and don’t pay attention to them. If you’re ahead then they can’t get in the way…

Maybe that is why I am used to it. My boyfriend plays a charr in bright pink armor.
Okay, I’m getting tired of this constant whining, about whining.
Yes, making them ghosts was an idea I had in mind as well. It would also be sort of in line with the Halloween theme!

PS: Don’t take it personal if you’re Norn or Charr. It’s not your fault.
When I’m playing WvW I’m really playing LSD.

I’m a Human elementalist and just finished the Clock Tower first try […] I done it first try, easy as can be once you know how.
But… if you did it on your first try, then you didn’t know how.
Clearly you have a gift. Imagine not only avoiding all the places where players get stuck, all the places that cause your camera to go crazy, but also knowing that you have to jump down at the end of the beam, knowing that you need to wait for the clock to turn twice, knowing that you must pick the right side when the path splits…
You’re either incredibly lucky, have paranormal powers, or your pants are on fire.
I won’t say which one of those I find more likely, but I do note that the Clock Tower has been out for a couple of days and you say that you “have just finished it on the first try”. I guess you didn’t play at all during the weekend. Maybe you were using your powers for the good of mankind.
Either way, I don’t think your experience can be extrapolated to the majority of players. Most people do find it easier to play when their own character (and their intended path) isn’t buried under a mob of characters that are 4 times their size.

Took me ~1 hour to finish the tower the first time, then did it 5 more times with different characters, none of them were norn or char… The only real problem I’ve had was the camera on the first stretch, but after a couple of times you just learn when to jump…
IMHO it all comes down to the time it takes for individual to learn the layout, big characters may be an minor issue, but you can always just let them a meter or two in front of you if you can’t overtake them…

I meant I done it first try after doing it a few times before, but I logged on and tried it and done it first go.
