The only thing I don’t like about the whole thing is putting a really hard jumping puzzle in an event that only lasts for a couple weeks forces players to beat it during the event or miss the opportunity.

I really like the idea of jumping puzzles in events but I also think the really hard ones should be accessible whenever so players can beat them on their own terms… You know play how we want.

That being said the clock tower was AWESOME! It was intense, stressful, fun, addictive, and gave me an immense hate of freaking char! I actually couldn’t believe it when I made it to the finish and started tearing up with joy, no other game has given me that.

Thanks Anet for letting Josh do this type of thing and put it in game, and thanks Josh for doing it!

GW2 didn’t need an event that was designed for ~5% of players to succeed at. It goes against the whole philosophy of the game.

99.9%+ of the players never won a golden trim in the monthly gvg tournaments in GW1 was that against the philosophy of the game too?
What about the Underworld and DoA?

Found that if your trying with a few larger players it was a non starter.. dont mind it being hard just would like it to been on me own with out every one getting in the way.

@Winzzy

I’m with you – I wouldn’t mind such a challenging puzzle, had they given us more than 5 days to complete it. Holidays can be a bit chaotic and limit login times….

Hopefully the next events will have a little bit longer duration than this.

Guys, i dont know why all that confusion in all topics about the puzzle. This is NOT THAT HARD, you only need to concentrate and try again and again. Try to walk by the right and turn your camera while walking this will help. Or just check some youtube video to see where you need to jump.

eh, when i beat it i had two norns with me. i just used really vivid colors (orange and black) to make me stand out, that way i could spot myself easily.

The problem is that if you have latency, it is less responsive, especially graphic latency. By design it is significantly harder the worse your computer is. With other jumping puzzles you can compensate by taking longer to do the jumps and wait for others to go past if they make it significantly harder for you. That isn’t an option.

Some people also just don’t have the twitchy reflexes that others do, for some people this will be extremely trivial. Of the 40 odd people in my guild, nobody has successfully done it. If it was reasonable in terms of difficulty then I think some people should have got it that I know of.

You need to look at the average audience when making game design decisions. This game isn’t generally a challenge for those who love twitchy games, it doesn’t really need one out of the box encounter when it will only be around for a limited period of time.

If you have super leet jumping skills, try and find someone you know who has close to minimum specs and try it on their machine so you can experience the difficulty in challenge from a good gaming PC to a minimum spec one.

I strongly doubt that only 5% of the playerbase completed the tower, i think it’s more like 10% in under 30min, 50% in under 2 hours, 30% in under 6 hours, 5% in under 12 hours and that there are only 5% who can’t do it.

I agree, if this were a permanent puzzle that I could try every now and then it would be ok, but for something that I must complete within the week (well, within the next few hours since my power will likely be out for the remainder of the event), they need it to be easier to achieve.

And yeah, latency is a huge problem on my end, because for some reason my wifi has been very laggy this weekend too.

If you turn your settings down to best performance you shouldn’t have any problems with graphical lag, unless you have a 10 year old computer. The thing is, some people just aren’t good at jumping puzzles, period.

If you keep at it though, and learn each jump, you’ll eventually get it. I’ve already run 3 of my alts through it and it gets easier each time. (and I’m getting dangerously close to being 40 years old)

I wasn’t referring to myself, my computer isn’t that old. I just don’t have the care factor to flog my way through it like my life depended on it. :P

If it is not doable in a few attempts, it is not fun in my definition of fun so I am outta there. Good luck to those that put themselves through it. I am not busting my kitten to get all the achievements, just the ones that are fun for me.

This event is just not fun for me or most people I know. Someone else can’t tell you what you find fun, it is an opinion each person has.

If I wanted a super hard challenge, I would go climb mount Everest. I just like to relax and have ‘fun’ with computer games, not blow a valve like someone people have been experiencing. :P

Well there you go, some people enjoy a challenging game that requires patience and lots of trial and error. I remember playing old console games (back in the 90s) non-stop until I beat certain parts. Some of the older NES games were brutal, way worse than this.

Tetris is a good game for hand-to-eye co-ordination and skill. There is nothing really about GW2 that is really challenging in that respect. The clock tower just seems out of place with the rest of the game and seems to go against their own design belief.

I still play Tetris now and then, just a browser version. But it is not something I would want in an MMO, especially a game like GW2 which is not what you would call one of the challenging MMOs to play.

You just run around and face roll all the content, from PvE (including the big dragon fights) to sPvP to WvW. The clock tower just sticks out like dogs balls.

I think per your previous post on what you consider fun, I think you meant to say “I”, not “You”.

I think a person’s hardware would put a pretty hard cap on their ability to do this. When you consider rendering 10 player models, a lot of floating (and rotating) debris, the movement of the tower itself, and a floor full of mist; this instance could be tough on a low end rig.

Not to mention if your mouse is jittery or has low dpi.

The upside is there’s no real advantage to those who complete it (unless you really need to have shoes)

I am curious, though, what the actual statistics are on the population that managed to beat it.
