How do you compare the instances for the Mad King vs. the Headless Horseman.

Both are direct boss battles instances with an amusing “villain.”

For me the Mad King’s is definitely more in depth with the battle moving amongst multiple platforms, but for some reason I still liked the Horseman’s more. Mostly because his rhyming quotes are just so memorable.

They both look super cool though…I can’t decide which design I like better…

(I’d post pictures of both of them, but last time I tried to embed an image it didn’t work no matter what kind of tags I used)

The headless horsemen wasn’t really a challenge. Though it was fun to jump in real quick and take him out. I do like the challenge the Mad King provided. And the treasure at the bottom is always nice.

Well that’s the thing too. A lot of the bosses in GW2 just seem like damage sponges to me. You can take down HH pretty quickly once you know his phases, and the same goes for the MK, but in his case you gotta keep biting away at his health for a solid 5-10 minutes.

I noticed this in a lot of other dungeons, once you figure out the pattern you’ve won, and it’s just a matter of burning down their obnoxiously large health pools.

Mad King > Headless Horseman.

In WoW the fight took place in the graveyard at Scarlet Monastery. There was a lot of obstacles that made it kind of irritating because he would often run off and you would have to chase after him.
Having to chase after his head was quite annoying too along with the fact that his body was immune during that time. I dont know how they do it now, but you also killed him 5 times (once for each person that summoned him) which was a little monotonous. The fight wasn’t very engaging.

With the Mad King the fight is pretty epic (that might just be new car smell though). The downside in my opinion is the random teleportation (I could understand if he just went down at 75% to the middle and the bottom at 25%) but going from top, to middle, to bottom, to middle, etc. is kind of annoying (even though as someone that doesn’t want to die, having a linear path doesn’t make a whole lot of sense). But as a lot of people complained, they missed the chest for what I’m assuming would be a reason like this (My first kill he died in the middle platform).
The way down by jumping is a little annoying. I think a way to go down and back up the same way would have been better than porting to the top to go to the middle and such.

TL;DR:
Headless Horseman rating: 3/10
Mad King rating: 8/10

I like the mad king setup more (it’s a lot more epic) BUT, i like the headless horseman loot a lot better.

When i got the realm 1st (aww yeah!) on the helmet i was in hogs heaven – i think i had that helmet on for like a year. I even had its laugh set into my warriors charge attack so i would burst out laughing as i charged in – Muhahahahahahahaaa BAM!!!! .

Zilori: Guardian – Desolation.

I think they are both fine but the reward in HH is much better. You have a chance to get a rare mount which is pretty cool, and the epic gear is pretty good if your alts are not geared yet (which is quite common because alts don’t get a lot of chance to run instance/raid). They are BOP so you don’t farm them for gold.

While most players in GW2 farm MKD for the exotic to sell, meaning farming for gold. In HH, you don’t farm gold, you farm rare things for yourself.

MKD should have rewarded rare/exotic trinkets (either Soulbound on Acquire or on Use) because everyone can equip them and they are much more costly to obtain, while provide less additional stats (which mean many may don’t want to spend many golds for a small stats upgrade). This would also be extremely attractive to leveling players because it is almost impossible to get any rare trinkets.
